Chapter 3(unedited)
The light in the cabin flickered, on and off before going off. Did I tell you that I hate darkness? The only light in the cabin is the light from the thunder outside. My hand closing my ear every time the light brightens inside the cabin. Add that to the list, thunder with flashes of light. Just the right combination for a perfect horror story.
Ironically, this is what I pictured whenever I read a thriller or a mystery novel. It's in a situation like this the murderer will come to the heroine, hiding his weapon stealthily under his coat. You will read further with your heart pounding behind your chest as if you want to warn the heroine or the main character, hey look out.
As if god is granting my wish, I saw an obsidian shadow nearing me in a very suspicious manner. My eyes flew open, fearing my life. This is not how I expect my life to end. Taking trembling step backwards, I looked around. Someone help me, please.
What should I do? Should I use a woman's lethal weapon? The weapon that can send ghost helter skater fearing its own life.
Scream you say? Yes, I just scream my heart out closing my eyes shut. Hoping that whoever has the bravery to kill me, decides to run away rather than hear my scream. As the light in the cabin came back, I felt a large hand on my mouth, muffling my scream. Without thinking, I just bite the large hand with all the strength I have, hoping that it will be enough to defend me.
"Arghh, you stupid arrogant... woman,"
Okay, I can recognize that arrogant voice just from anywhere. Mr Dumbass. Slowly, I opened. my eyes, looking through the small slit.
There, stood gloriously while holding his injured hand mumbling incoherently something I think cursing word was the man I still call Mr Dumbass. Even from this far, I can see the reddish biting mark.
His red eyes narrowed on me, anger flashes behind that eyes made me question my action a while ago. But again, which stupid man puts his hand on a woman mouth to stop her screaming? The movie already showed the reaction, not once but thousands of times. He should just call my name or just scream like me.
I was still standing as he walks toward me. Now, I have just had to prepare a very long speech in my head explaining my action and lastly, apologise. Again.
He took my seat as he holds his injured hand staring deeply into my eyes. His electric blue eyes shine almost mirroring the thunder during the thunderstorm. The rage that I saw in his eyes almost impales me and makes me wants to crawl under the chair, hiding away from him.
I am a person who owes up to her own mistake. Since I meet this person, however, I find it hard to apologize. He called me stupid remember, even after I said my apologies. Sighing, I know that I do owe him another apology.
"I am sorry, though...-,"
His head snapped, glowering on me, more like trained on me as he frowned and flinches in pain. "What? A killer out here to kill you?" he shouted. He keeps on shaking his injured hand as groaning in pain.
Bingo, a handsome killer that can kill even with just looking at you
The air hostess came with an ice pack and he grabbed it forcefully from her, placing it on his injured hand. My eyes studied the hand, yeah the one that I bite. There is a visible bite mark, the place that I bite, swollen, and the skin almost bluish.
"I was on my way back to my seat when the light was gone," His hand pressed the cold to his injured hand.
"I thought that I've reached my seat, but I was wrong," he paused as he bit his bottom lip. It must be painful, I thought. Otherwise, how well built men like him groan every single time the cold pack meets his sensitive skin.
"I'm sorry, you don't need to explain it... it was my mistake."
His eyes grew wide as the word escaped my lip. His brow furrowed as he titled his head to the left, studying me from the corner of his eyes.
"Didn't see that coming from you, realizing your mistake," he grumbled under his breath.
Sorry, Mr Dumbass... I heard you.
I want to tell him that but in the end; it was my mistake, so I keep my mouth shut.
He hissed as the ice touches his skin. He must be cursing me right now. Who wouldn't?
"To all passengers, please remain at your seat and fasten your seatbelt, as we are facing some turbulence" the pilot announcement came out from the speaker.
I took the seat beside him, as there are only the two of us in this first-class cabin.
Hesitantly, Clara walks away with a sour face. Told you, she did try to seduce Mr Dumbass. Sitting down I fasten his seatbelt before doing mine. Taking the cold pack, I pressed it against the bluish skin, where my bite mark was visible.
"Look Mr. .. I'm sorry again. I should not bite you. It's just I'm afraid of the dark and yeah.. stupid images came up." Rolling my eyes, realising that it was stupid of me to conjure such an illogical image. Apologising again for the second time of the day and to the same person, I sighed.
"You don't know me?" He looked puzzled.
Gosh! I just bite his hand and I'm human, my bite can't be so poisonous right? He is more concerned about me not recognizing him rather than my repeated confession.
"No," I grabbed his hand as he pulled it back when the ice grazes his skin.
He chuckles.
I look up at him, confused. Which joke of mine did he laugh to?
"Do I supposed to know you?" I asked him. Squinting my eyes at him to find any familiarities between him and the popular male species that I should know. One thing, he does look familiar but nothing rings an alarm in my mind.
"Alex Pierce." He shakes my hand as I look at him, blinking my eyes.
"Regina... Regina Lawson"
Alex Pierce, that name does make a ringing sound in my mind. His name somehow sounds familiar. I heard his name before but I can't recall where or when.
I waved my hand in the air, stroking the thought away.
"I hope that this is our last meeting Mrs Lawson, it seems that every time we meet, something bad happens,"
Mrs? He thought I'm married. Ohh! Brandon ring. The ring that managed to chase away all the men from me.
"Same here Mr Pierce.. believe me.. I cherish my life more than anything else". I said wringing the finger that has Brandon ring on it.
"By the way Mr Pierce, your seat is there," my finger pointing at a fee row of seats in front of me. That is the most polite way of asking him to go away. He did say that he doesn't want to see me, and it starts from now.
He rolled his eyes up as he stands up and strides towards his seat.
ALEX POVRegina, a single woman, attended Jake's wedding that day. It was during the event that Jake shared with me the tragic love story of Regina. However, Jake had specifically warned me not to mention anything about Brandon's passing. Unfortunately, the slip of my tongue betrayed me, and now I deeply regret it.After driving for about an hour, we arrived at Regina's place. I parked my car in an empty spot and turned off the engine. The atmosphere was heavy with silence as Regina kept her emotions bottled up inside, and I could sense a storm brewing in her heart.Slowly she opens her door bur then she stopped and turned her body, facing me.Regina slowly opened the car door, but then she paused and turned her body to face me."Thank you for the invitation," she said in a stern voice, lacking any hint of genuine appreciation.Taken aback by her sudden change in demeanor, I sat there, trying to comprehend what was happening. It was clear that something deeper was bothering her, beyon
REGINA POVThe weight of Brenda's confusion and unspoken questions filled the room, casting a heavy atmosphere. Brenda's eyes widened in shock as she turned to me, instinctively reaching out to grasp my hand."What is he talking about, Regina?" she asked, her voice filled with disbelief. I could see the tears welling up in her eyes, mirroring the emotions churning inside me. But this was neither the place nor the time to delve into it."It's nothing, Brenda," I replied, my voice trembling as I clasped our hands together, seeking comfort in our connection. Her gaze bore into mine, silently conveying her understanding of the unspoken truths we shared. Brenda shook her head, lightly tapping my shoulder in a gesture of support."Regina is not my daughter-in-law, unfortunately. She was engaged to Brandon, my son," Brenda spoke softly, her words barely above a whisper, laden with a mixture of sadness and acceptance."She still wears Brandon's ring as a way to remember him, and sometimes peo
REGINA POVAs I walked into the grand ballroom adorned with shimmering chandeliers and exquisite floral arrangements, the air filled with an electric buzz. Tonight was the highly anticipated charity gala, an event that brought together influential figures and philanthropists from all walks of life. I was attending as a guest of honor alongside Brandon's mother, Brenda, who had graciously invited me to join her.Dressed in a stunning floor-length gown that hugged my curves in all the right places, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement mixed with a hint of nervousness. The room was filled with the soothing melody of soft jazz music, creating an enchanting atmosphere as Brenda and I gracefully navigated through the lively crowd. Conversations swirled in the air, adding to the vibrant ambiance. Finally reaching our destination, we approached a table adorned with an elegant sign that read 'Brandon's CancerCare Foundation,' designated for four people.Feeling a mixture of nerves a
REGINA POVTwo weeks had passed since Jenna's wedding, and I was determined to make amends with her. I decided to purchase a ten-day trip package to Turkey for the couple. It seemed like the least I could do after nearly ruining Jenna's special day.Fortunately, I had attended the wedding reception and managed to capture a few photographs. As I flipped through them, searching for the perfect one to include in Brandon's diary, my eyes landed on a picture taken in front of the Parthenon. In the image, Alex and I were standing side by side, our smiles radiant. The joy in our faces was evident, as evidenced by the gentle crinkles at the corners of my eyes. In that moment, happiness enveloped me.A smile spread across my face as I recalled that it was Alex who had suggested adding the picture to my blog. Speaking of my blog, I realized that I hadn't updated it since returning from Athens. It was high time I shared my incredible travel experience with my readers. With determination, I sat
ALEX POVLeaving Regina behind, I hastily picked up Jake's call."Where are you, man?" Jake's voice echoed urgently through the phone."I'm at Kalamaki Beach," I replied briefly, my gaze fixed on Regina. I couldn't shake off the fear that she might slip away."Good," Jake sighed with relief, and in the background, I could hear Jenna's panicked voice."Tell Jenna that Regina is with me."Jake quickly handed the phone to Jenna, who sounded desperate on the other end."Regina is with you? How is she? I need to apologize to her," Jenna's voice trembled with concern."Yeah, Jenna. She's safe with me. She seemed better, but there's a lingering sadness. She's sorry about..." I trailed off, my eyes drifting upward, lost in the expanse of the clear sky."I'm sorry too. We both disrupted your perfect wedding," I confessed."We should have known. She lost him five years ago, but it seems like she's still clinging to the past," Jenna passed the phone back to Jake."Alex?" Jake whispered, his voic
SOLACE BY THE BEACHREGINA POVAs we walked towards the beach, a sense of calm washed over me, replacing the chaos that had consumed my mind just moments ago. The salty breeze carried with it a soothing aroma, and the distant sound of crashing waves grew louder with each step. The sand beneath my feet offered a gentle, forgiving texture, reminding me of the impermanence of my troubles. Alex walked beside me.We found a secluded spot near the water's edge, where the sand was untouched by the footprints of others. We sat down, our bodies sinking into the soft grains, and I closed my eyes, letting the serenity of the moment envelop me.The rhythmic melody of the waves provided a backdrop for my thoughts, their constant ebb and flow mirroring the cycles of life itself. I allowed myself to surrender to the tranquility of the scene.Alex remained beside me, his presence grounding and comforting."The sound of crashing waves possesses an undeniable, almost mystical power," Alex remarked, his
