“Hold on, here's a quick one. You know what this means guys, it’s next week Friday, who’s going to be there?” Ayo drew our attention back to his gig.
“What exactly are you performing for this time?” Idris asked.
“There’s a fundraiser and a couple of bands and artists were invited.”
We walked into the hotel lobby where Laura and Idris waited. I couldn’t help but glance around the reflective walls-wow I looked amazing if I do say so myself- and the colourful paintings that seemed to give off a life of their own. Laura saw us first, as she walked toward us her heels clicked sharply on the floor. Idris soon followed closely behind. “Well, look at you!” I grinned as she spun around slowly for us to be awed by her silk evening gown. It draped nicely on her body and flowed down like a midnight blue waterfall.
Most of the unexpected people at fundraiser had set me on edge but I couldn’t miss it when Ayo and his band came on stage to perform. There was a palpable change in the atmosphere of the room and it suddenly became lively. It was always a rewarding experience to watch him in his element as he pretty much owned the stage within those moments he performed. There was a short break in between performances so we walked around the hall to mingle and grab some refreshments. I picked up a mini platter of grilled chicken with sauce and couldn’t help but take a mome
Cindy muttered something under her breath and rolled her eyes.“It was great seeing you Michael, you’re looking well. Nice to meet you, Katherine.” She walked away before either of us replied.“Wow, he seems like a douche,” Katherine whispered when Cindy left.
Cindy ForbesTwo days had gone by and Ethan hadn’t so much as texted me since the fundraiser party. I couldn’t believe how he made me seem like a fool in front of Michael and Katherine. I had to admit, she was pretty good-looking and he had looked stunning dressed in a suit but that wasn’t the point.
I pulled my hoodie over my head to prevent getting soaked from the rain. I could not remember the last time I felt so nervous. Okay so maybe I did but it had been a while anyway. I arrived at the address Katherine texted me and looked around. The gallery was across the street so I waited for a break in traffic to cross the road. Once I was sure it was free, I stepped unto the road and halfway across was when the car appeared seemingly from nowhere. I didn’t have time to react or think. It all happened too fast. The car horn was deafening. It screeched to a halt
“I think this one looks a lot like you, I mean the facial structure is almost identical, what do you think?” Katherine pointed at the monkey in the middle that had its hands crossed as it looked to the side.“No, I think that expression definitely matches yours more.” I nudged her in the shoulder and she burst into laughter.
Cindy ForbesAfter I finished the movie and there was still no sign of Ethan, I decided it was time to leave. I stood and picked up my bag. My gaze went to the red lingerie that lay on the floor, it seemed to mock me but I was determined not to jump into any conclusions before I got an explanation.
My finger hovered over my phone screen as I had an internal debate on whether or not to send a particular message to a certain someone. Was it worth it? Did I need to involve myself in something that probably wasn’t my business?I cringed at the memory of the young girl in Ethan’s car two days ago. She had called him 'baby'. Even if I wanted to brush her presence off as them being related, no sister calls her brother baby right? Especially when she was the younger one. The whole thing seemed off to me. I wondered if I should contact Cindy or not? Did
