"S—she's all I have," she whispers in a defeated tone, and all I want to do is hold her and convince her that I would never try to separate Cami from her.

Instead, I lean over the island so she's standing directly opposite from me. I hesitate for a split second but lean over and cup her cheek slowly, wiping a stray tear from her cheek with my thumb.

"Why did you leave?" I ask in a low tone, and she slowly looks up to meet my gaze, her heart-shaped lips falling open softly before she quickly looks away.

"And don't tell me it's because you no longer loved me. If you didn't, you wouldn't have made an anonymous donation to my mother!" I snap, and her eyes flicker to mine immediately, shock reflecting in them.

"H—how do you know that?" she stutters, and I sigh, shaking my head slowly as I pull away and stand upright.

"It doesn't matter; just tell me the truth, Willow," I say, my tone dripping with pent-up emotions.

"Fine, you really want to know why I left and why I hurt you?" she sn

Jack"What are you talking about?" I ask, looking between her and Ava in confusion. Ava is quiet, like she has been cornered, her head cast down like she couldn't bear to face us."Why don't you tell him how you lied about the letter, you bitch!" She screams, and Ava flinches."What?" I breathe, my eyes snapping to Ava, whose eyes are on him now, wide and defiant."You heard me right; she was supposed to give the letter to you. Instead, she fabricated a response saying you wanted nothing to do with me and the baby," Willow explains, shaking her head slowly."I can't believe I trusted you," she mutters, a tear slithering down her cheek."You did all of this?" My eyes are on Ava now, but she is yet to utter a word in her defence. How could she when everything she did was to pull Willow and me further apart?"She didn't deserve you; even when she left you, you still didn't want me," she started through clenched teeth. "If I can't have you, then no one else will," she grins, and I see red

"Willow said you're a good man; would you really turn a blind eye to her daughter being treated like that?" I ask, and his jaw clenches, his hands balling into fists by his side."If you want to do the right thing, now's the time, Owen," I say, my tone low as I watch him carefully. He's having an internal battle, and I pray to God that he'll listen and do the right thing; otherwise, the last resort is to call the police. Even then, I know that would be a futile attempt, not with how powerful Mr. Henderson is in this time. It's a known fact that he has the police in his pocket.I'm pretty sure Willow has no idea about Ava's actions; she would never stand and watch Camille being treated that way.He takes a step to the side away from the door, his gaze steady. "Willow deserves so much better than a father like him. He's trying to control everything just like he did years ago, and this time I see it in his eyes; he's going to hurt her to get what he wants," he admits, his shoulders saggi

JackWhen I limp back into my apartment, I rush into the living room in search of my phone and find it on the plush carpet on the floor.I unlock it quickly, ignoring the several texts I'd received from Martin and the private investigator, going immediately in search of Sullivan's number. We weren't close as teammates back in high school, but he'd somehow reached out once, years ago.I scroll through the contacts on my phone with bated breath in search of his name. When I finally find it, I almost cry in happiness.I quickly dial his number, exhaling slowly when it starts to ring. He picks up after the fourth ring, and I quickly sit up straight."Sullivan, thank God, man," I mutter quickly, and an awkward silence follows before he speaks up. "Uhm, who is this?" he asks."It's me, Jack," I respond quickly. "Wait, Jack as in Jack Carter?" he asks again, and I nod, forgetting that he can't even see me."Yes, yes," I say quickly, and he chuckles. "Sure, and I'm LeBron James," he replies i

WillowMy mind frays and my blood turns to ash; it's like my whole world is crumbling before my eyes, and all I want to do is fold into a ball and cry my eyes out. It's like everything I've ever known is one cruel lie spun so intricately it became truth, or had I been too blind to see truth that had been right in front of me the whole damn time?Father's dark eyes glint as he watches my reaction carefully, a dark smile tugging at the corner of his lips."The problem is you're too trusting of people, so oblivious to the truth that's been right in front of you all this while," he scoffs, shoving his hands into the pocket of his slacks as he leans back against his desk behind him."Think carefully, Willow. How did you think I found out about that scum you were prancing around town with?" he asks, tilting his head, watching me, but there is no point in answering a question that is so obvious. The memories came rushing with the force of a tornado; the pictures scattered on the coffee table

JackI'm still standing there reeling from the shock and confusion her words brought. I blink at the sound of the front door slamming shut behind her. She left.I should feel better about humiliating her, about making her feel a fraction of the pain I'd felt that day, but instead I feel like shit, like I'm the worst person ever.I feel ashamed of myself; nothing feels right anymore, not how I treated her after the beautiful moment we'd shared last night.I had opened my eyes to her lingering scent hanging in the air in my bedroom, and like a moth drawn to a flame, I walked down the stairs to see her standing there in nothing but my shirt. It was the perfect picture. Her in my shirt, in my apartment, just us. But then my gaze drifted to the view of the park, just beyond her dainty shoulders, and I stilled. The seething rage came rushing back, and so did my need for revenge, but now that it is all said and done, I don't feel the satisfaction I thought I'd feel, only shame and regret.I
