Chapter 4

The police officer shot me an impatient look before snapping, "I asked you a question. Do you have any evidence proving that your wife cheated on you?"

I didn't want to stir up any trouble, especially since the young officer looked like the reckless type. I took a deep breath and patiently explained, "The evidence that I currently have is the screenshot of the order. It's fine if you don't think that it's enough.

"I've already reported this incident to the bank and frozen my black bank card. It won't be long now before a team of professional financial advisors shows up at my doorstep. You'll be able to determine what's going on for yourself when they bring the bank state—"

"You're accusing your wife of cheating on you over a screenshot of an order? Do you rich people have nothing else better to do?"

The young officer shoved me in the chest before I could finish my sentence. He ignored everything else that I had to say, grabbing a pair of handcuffs from his waist and snapping them on my wrists.

"I never could stand people like you. So what if you're rich? I bet you have no idea how the law works. Don't you know that you can be convicted and thrown into jail for slander?"

He pointed a finger at me and jabbed my nose several times, prompting the onlookers to cheer him on.

I never would have imagined that I would be handcuffed in my own home over such a preposterous reason.

The young officer dragged me toward the police car.

My patience finally snapped. "Am I wrong for waiting for the evidence? Perhaps you're the one who's clueless about your job, not me about the law! I already told you that evidence will be arriving any minute now. Don't you understand what I'm saying?"

However, the young officer seemed to be deaf to my words. He completely ignored me and stubbornly tried to force me into the car.

Serena suddenly burst into laughter after suppressing her emotions for most of the day. She stood in front of the police car and arched her brow at me, saying, "That's enough, Leon. I know that it hasn't been easy for you to take care of me for so many years.

"I'm not an ungrateful person. If you unfreeze the credit card and apologize to me in front of everyone, I can sweep everything that happened today under the rug."

The onlookers gave Serena thumbs-ups when they realized that she was still trying to smooth things over with me even though I had "mistreated" her.

"Serena's such a wonderful woman. I would be smiling in my sleep if my wife was as understanding as her."

"You're right. I can't believe that Leon would suspect that someone as beautiful and kind as her would cheat on him. I have no idea what's going on in his head."

Meanwhile, Felix hid behind Serena and grinned from ear to ear.

"That's enough," the young police officer said. "You can smooth things over with him later. I won't rest until I haul him back to the station and teach him a lesson."

The officer was about to force me into the car when two black, extended cars screeched to a stop in front of the crowd.

A few bank managers, clad in tailored suits, stepped out of the cars. There was also a silver-haired, uniformed police officer with them.

The old officer aimed a powerful kick at the young officer when he noticed that the latter was trying to force me into the police car.

"You damned brat! Do you have any idea who you're manhandling?"

The young officer pathetically scrambled to his feet, exclaiming, "Mr. Warton? What are you doing? I don't care who he is. He broke the law by slandering someone without any evidence. Am I supposed to let him walk free—"

The old officer, Oliver Warton, kicked the young officer again before he could finish his sentence. He then whirled around and grabbed a box from one of the bank managers, brandishing the stack of documents in the young officer's face.

"Open your damned eyes and take a good look! These are Mr. Gallagher's evidence!"
