Chapter 1

During the seventh year of my bond with Claus Ellison, he betrayed me.

When I arrived at the Nightshade Corp's headquarters that day, the security guards kept their heads down, too afraid to meet my eyes.

The air was thick with a cloying, unfamiliar perfume laced with the distinct scent of a heat cycle.

I followed the scent and pushed open the doors to the CEO's office. Inside, I saw him hugging a young woman at the conference table.

She was a human with pale skin and slender limbs.

She was perched on Claus's lap, her arms draped around his neck, while his fingers trailed along her thigh.

I froze at once, and the room fell dead silent.

Claus looked up and saw me. His expression stiffened—not out of guilt, but out of annoyance at my poor timing.

The woman didn't look scared at all. Instead, she gave me a provocative smile. "So, you're Aserina Doyle?"

Claus did nothing to stop her.

She looked me up and down, then said, "Claus was right. You really aren't getting any younger."

Claus clicked her tongue. "Bella, don't."

Bella Blake reached for the glass of wine on his desk and took a slow sip. "I'm not doing anything. You're the one who promised to mark me once you secured all her shares."

Claus grabbed her shoulder and chuckled. "You little brat, give it a rest."

I watched them coldly.

I had been with Claus for seven years.

He seemed to have forgotten that I was the one who dragged him out of the gutter and onto the throne. I had never been some submissive trophy.

And now, he was holding a fragile Omega in the heart of the empire we built together, mocking me for being old?

"Claus," I said, my voice eerily flat. "I'm giving you one chance. Get her out of here."

But Bella just laughed, covering her mouth as if I'd told a joke.

"Aserina, haven't you figured it out yet?"

She walked over to me and leaned in until her breath was hot against my ear. "Claus promised to be with me a long time ago. You're just an old hag holding onto him with outdated sentiment. How do you still have the nerve to linger here?"

At that, Claus saw the look in my eyes and finally turned serious. "Enough, Bella. Shut up."

But I didn't wait. I swung my hand and delivered a stinging slap across her face.

Bella spun around, completely stunned.

"You think you're worthy of setting foot in my headquarters?"

She shrieked and scrambled behind Claus. Tears welled up instantly. "Claus! She slapped me!"

Claus snapped to his feet, his expression darkening. "Aserina, are you crazy? I already scolded her!"

"I'm crazy?" I glared at him. "You brought a tramp into my office, in my building, and sat her in my chair. I'm not dead yet!"

Claus gave Bella a rough shove toward the door. "Get out of here."

"But—" Bella didn't want to give up.

"I said, get out! Do you want to die?" he growled.

Terrified, she clutched her face and bolted from the room.

The moment the doors slammed shut, Claus took a deep breath. Suddenly, he dropped to one knee and tried to grab my hand.

"Aserina, I messed up. Just forgive me this once. Think of her as a doll. I'll throw her away, and that'll be the end of it."

I wrenched my hand back. "You didn't treat her like a doll when you let her humiliate me."

A flash of impatience crossed Claus' face. He dropped the act. "You're the Luna. Why are you being so petty about something so minor? Maybe you should ask yourself if you're even fit to be the Luna anymore!"

Without a word, I slid the ring I'd worn for seven years off my finger.

Then, I hauled back and slapped him across the face, harder than I'd hit Bella.

"Claus, I think I've kept you on that pedestal for too long. You've forgotten where you came from."

Seven years ago, my father, Morgan Doyle, was the Alpha of the Blackthorn pack, the strongest pack in Northia.

I was his only daughter.

Everyone in Northia knew that Claus only became Alpha of the Nightshade pack and took over the company because the Blackthorn pack paved the way.

Claus' head was turned from the blow. His expression turned murderous. "Are you out of your mind? How dare you slap me?"

I replied coldly, "Listen up. I had the power to build you up, and I have the power to tear you down."

He let out a mocking laugh. "Aserina, you think this is the old days? What do you have to fight me now? Without me, you can't even get a seat on the board."

I stepped closer. Staring into his cold eyes, I spoke every word slowly. "You'd better pray you never have to crawl back to me on your knees."

Two weeks later, I received a call from an unfamiliar number. When I picked up, there was a long silence before Claus' raspy voice broke through. "Aserina, let's see each other one last time."He asked to meet at a small shop in the old market that sold burgers. When I arrived, the owner was just coming out with a plate of burgers. She froze when she saw me."Oh my! It's been ages since you two came by together. I used to tell my husband all the time that you two looked like the type to grow old together."She finished speaking with a smile. Only when she realized the tension between Claus and me did she shut her mouth awkwardly. When I sat down across from him, the Claus I once knew—the man who radiated high spirits and a commanding presence the moment he stepped into a room—was nowhere to be found. The shop was quiet, except for the sizzle of patties on the grill in the kitchen.I suddenly remembered many years ago, when I led the members of the Blackthorn pack to back Claus

The next day, I fully threw myself back into work.I attended meetings, reviewed audits, reorganized resource lines, and renegotiated supply agreements. I was so busy that I had to carve out time just to eat.I knew very well that the most important thing now wasn't finding another man but rebuilding my life and position.Once everything started falling into place, Claus had someone send me another letter. "Aserina, I won't remove the mark."Right. If he refused to let go, I'd be stuck with him forever.I had wanted to leave him some dignity, so he wouldn't be attacked by other wolves or be utterly destroyed. But now, it didn't seem necessary. That evening, I called Cecilia over and slid the evidence package across the table to her. "Release it."Cecilia flipped through it and whistled. "You really don't plan on leaving anyone alive this time, huh?""I gave them a chance," I said calmly. "They chose to refuse it."The next morning, both the Northia industry bulletin and the S

In the afternoon, Bella surprisingly reached out to meet with me.She chose a cafe near Shadowport, pretending it was for a "civilized conversation".But as soon as she sat down, her eyes turned red-rimmed, and the first thing she said was, "Why did you steal Ryan from me?"I almost laughed out loud. "Steal? Didn't you act all righteous when you took my mate? How come now, when your mate is standing next to me, you can't handle it?"Her face went pale. Through gritted teeth, she said, "You know he's mine!""And you knew Claus was my mate."I put my cup down, no longer bothering to spare her any courtesy. "Bella, stop playing the victim in front of me. You're not innocent. You knew he had a mate, yet you still climbed into his bed. Now you're just reaping what you sowed. What you did to others has come back to bite you."Her face turned a mix of red and white at my words. After a long pause, she finally managed to spit out, "Ryan never treated me like this before…""How did he t

The next day, Bella and Claus were at each other's throats.By the time I reached the company building, I could hear her shrill voice echoing from afar. "Why didn't you protect me yesterday? Didn't you say you didn't love Aserina anymore?"Claus, already exhausted from a sleepless night caused by Ryan and me, looked like he was about to explode."Shut up! How dare you argue with me? If you hadn't said those things to humiliate her, things wouldn't have turned out this way."Bella's eyes reddened in an instant. "Now it's my fault? Wasn't it you who brought me into the headquarters? Wasn't it you who talked behind her back, calling her disgusting? Wasn't it you who promised to mark me?"Watching them tear into each other was oddly satisfying. When two people, driven by ambition and desire, formed an alliance of convenience, their first instinct when things went wrong was always to shift the blame. And that was exactly what I wanted to see.I turned away and walked straight into t

Claus stood in the rain, his stare fixed on Ryan and on the unmistakable signs of intimacy on his neck. After a long pause, his voice came out hoarse. "Was it him… that night?"I didn't deny it. "Finally figured it out?"That one sentence seemed to rip apart his last illusion.Claus' face turned pale. Rainwater streamed down his jawline, and his knuckles let out a sharp crack as he tightened his fists. For days, he must have been lying to himself. He must have been convincing himself that I was just trying to rile him up, that I couldn't possibly let another man touch me, and that the unfamiliar scent was just part of a play I was putting on for him.But now, Ryan was standing beside me, marked with my scent.Claus could no longer lie to himself."Aserina."As he stared at me, he asked in a shaky voice, "Did you really sleep with him?"Ryan adjusted his collar, making sure the marks on his neck were even more obvious. "My lady, we did what we did. Can't we say it out loud?"

Ryan pressed the phone to his ear and said gently, "Alpha Claus, such a temper isn't good for your health."There was instant silence on the other end.The next second, Claus almost snarled through gritted teeth, "It's you."Ryan smiled, setting his fishing rod in place. "So what if it's me? You can't control your own Luna. Who can you blame?"As soon as those words left his mouth, I could almost imagine how twisted Claus' expression had become right now.Sure enough, his voice shifted completely. "You're asking for it—"But Ryan hung up the phone before Claus could finish. He turned to look at me, that mock-innocent smile still floating on the surface of his gaze. "I told him off for you."As I looked at him, I couldn't hold back a laugh. "Why did you stir things up?"His tone was lazy. "Who told him to treat you like that?"I asked, "Is it just for me? No ulterior motive?""My lady, compared to getting back at Bella, I want to help you more."He was so close that for a sp
