Chapter 4

مؤلف: Heronage
The scent clinging to the young man was a world away from Claus' aggressive mix of liquor and beast blood.

This stark contrast only made the fire burning in my chest flare up even more.

I reached out and grabbed the collar of his shirt. "What's your name?"

"Ryan."

"Alright." I looked into his dark, gleaming eyes and lowered my voice. "Ryan, do you have a place to go tonight?"

His Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "I did."

"And now?"

"Now, I'll do as you say."

My heart skipped a beat, and I suddenly smiled.

This was interesting.

I stood up, grabbed my bag, and headed for the stairs. After a couple of steps, I noticed he was still sitting there, watching me.

I turned around. "Aren't you coming?"

Ryan finally got up and followed me.

Just then, his phone in his pocket lit up. A woman's name flashed on the screen.

I glanced at it but said nothing.

However, he didn't even frown. He just pressed the screen off.

I raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you going to answer it?"

"There's no need."

"What if it's her, trying to explain?"

Ryan looked down at me. His voice was soft but carried an edge. "Betrayal is betrayal. If she chose someone else, then she can't expect me to wait around for her."

I stared at him, oddly satisfied with his words.

At least they made more sense than Claus' nonsense about "it's just a minor matter" or "don't make a fuss".

I turned toward the parking lot.

Ryan followed quietly, like a well-behaved shadow.

But for some reason, as I reached for the car door, an odd feeling hit me.

From the moment I looked back at him, I knew this wasn't just a random encounter.

Still, it didn't matter. Whether he had other motives or not, that wasn't important.

What mattered was, from this moment on, I wasn't going to be the Aserina who only had eyes for Claus.

I got into the car, glanced at him, and lifted my chin. "Get in."

Ryan bent down to close the door for me. That smile of his was so innocent it almost felt unreal.

"Alright, my lady."

The moment the door clicked shut, I knew there was no going back tonight.

Ryan slid into the passenger seat, quiet as ever. He only buckled up after I started the car, like he was handing himself over to me.

I looked at his compliant demeanor and couldn't help but laugh. "You're really compliant."

He turned to look at me, his eyes shining dark.

"Compliant is not the right word," he said. "I'm just afraid you'll change your mind."

I drove us to an old house no one knew about. Not even Claus knew its exact location.

Looking back now, maybe deep down, I'd never trusted him that much.

Once we stepped inside, the house was silent. Only the motion-sensor wall lamps flickered on, casting a dim glow across Ryan's face that made his youthful features look even more pronounced.

He stood at the door, not looking around or touching anything. He just softly asked, "My lady, what do you need me to do?"

I threw my coat onto the couch, walked up to him, and grabbed his collar. "It's simple. Don't disappoint me tonight."

He whispered an "okay" in response, his voice hoarse.

But as soon as I pulled him closer, it was he who lost his breath first. I could almost feel his heartbeat pounding against mine.

He was nervous. Or maybe excited.

As I stared into his eyes, a mischievous thought crossed my mind.

I stood on tiptoe and kissed him.

Ryan visibly stiffened for a moment. In the next second, his hand hesitantly rested on my waist.

His movements were restrained, as if waiting for my permission. It wasn't until I pushed him against the wall and bit his lower lip that his calm facade finally broke.

He let out a low, ragged breath, his gaze darkening.

The rest was almost inevitable.

He was like a shy yet ferocious young wolf, so mindful of my feelings. Yet, almost as if it were intentional, he left marks all over my shoulders and collarbones.

By the time it was over, the sky was already beginning to lighten.

I lay back against the headboard, panting, while Ryan crouched at the bedside, pulling the blanket back up over me. He then kissed the back of my hand.

That kiss was so soft, almost nothing like the man who had backed me into a corner earlier.

I lowered my gaze to him. "Addicted to playing the good boy?"

He looked up at me and smiled. His eyes were a little red at the corners, making him look innocent. "No. I just don't want you to deny me after."

His words had me laughing.

Just as I was about to say something, my phone suddenly began vibrating like crazy.

  • When the Alpha Regrets It All   Chapter 14

Two weeks later, I received a call from an unfamiliar number. When I picked up, there was a long silence before Claus' raspy voice broke through. "Aserina, let's see each other one last time."He asked to meet at a small shop in the old market that sold burgers. When I arrived, the owner was just coming out with a plate of burgers. She froze when she saw me."Oh my! It's been ages since you two came by together. I used to tell my husband all the time that you two looked like the type to grow old together."She finished speaking with a smile. Only when she realized the tension between Claus and me did she shut her mouth awkwardly. When I sat down across from him, the Claus I once knew—the man who radiated high spirits and a commanding presence the moment he stepped into a room—was nowhere to be found. The shop was quiet, except for the sizzle of patties on the grill in the kitchen.I suddenly remembered many years ago, when I led the members of the Blackthorn pack to back Claus

  • When the Alpha Regrets It All   Chapter 13

The next day, I fully threw myself back into work.I attended meetings, reviewed audits, reorganized resource lines, and renegotiated supply agreements. I was so busy that I had to carve out time just to eat.I knew very well that the most important thing now wasn't finding another man but rebuilding my life and position.Once everything started falling into place, Claus had someone send me another letter. "Aserina, I won't remove the mark."Right. If he refused to let go, I'd be stuck with him forever.I had wanted to leave him some dignity, so he wouldn't be attacked by other wolves or be utterly destroyed. But now, it didn't seem necessary. That evening, I called Cecilia over and slid the evidence package across the table to her. "Release it."Cecilia flipped through it and whistled. "You really don't plan on leaving anyone alive this time, huh?""I gave them a chance," I said calmly. "They chose to refuse it."The next morning, both the Northia industry bulletin and the S

In the afternoon, Bella surprisingly reached out to meet with me.She chose a cafe near Shadowport, pretending it was for a "civilized conversation".But as soon as she sat down, her eyes turned red-rimmed, and the first thing she said was, "Why did you steal Ryan from me?"I almost laughed out loud. "Steal? Didn't you act all righteous when you took my mate? How come now, when your mate is standing next to me, you can't handle it?"Her face went pale. Through gritted teeth, she said, "You know he's mine!""And you knew Claus was my mate."I put my cup down, no longer bothering to spare her any courtesy. "Bella, stop playing the victim in front of me. You're not innocent. You knew he had a mate, yet you still climbed into his bed. Now you're just reaping what you sowed. What you did to others has come back to bite you."Her face turned a mix of red and white at my words. After a long pause, she finally managed to spit out, "Ryan never treated me like this before…""How did he t

The next day, Bella and Claus were at each other's throats.By the time I reached the company building, I could hear her shrill voice echoing from afar. "Why didn't you protect me yesterday? Didn't you say you didn't love Aserina anymore?"Claus, already exhausted from a sleepless night caused by Ryan and me, looked like he was about to explode."Shut up! How dare you argue with me? If you hadn't said those things to humiliate her, things wouldn't have turned out this way."Bella's eyes reddened in an instant. "Now it's my fault? Wasn't it you who brought me into the headquarters? Wasn't it you who talked behind her back, calling her disgusting? Wasn't it you who promised to mark me?"Watching them tear into each other was oddly satisfying. When two people, driven by ambition and desire, formed an alliance of convenience, their first instinct when things went wrong was always to shift the blame. And that was exactly what I wanted to see.I turned away and walked straight into t

Claus stood in the rain, his stare fixed on Ryan and on the unmistakable signs of intimacy on his neck. After a long pause, his voice came out hoarse. "Was it him… that night?"I didn't deny it. "Finally figured it out?"That one sentence seemed to rip apart his last illusion.Claus' face turned pale. Rainwater streamed down his jawline, and his knuckles let out a sharp crack as he tightened his fists. For days, he must have been lying to himself. He must have been convincing himself that I was just trying to rile him up, that I couldn't possibly let another man touch me, and that the unfamiliar scent was just part of a play I was putting on for him.But now, Ryan was standing beside me, marked with my scent.Claus could no longer lie to himself."Aserina."As he stared at me, he asked in a shaky voice, "Did you really sleep with him?"Ryan adjusted his collar, making sure the marks on his neck were even more obvious. "My lady, we did what we did. Can't we say it out loud?"

Ryan pressed the phone to his ear and said gently, "Alpha Claus, such a temper isn't good for your health."There was instant silence on the other end.The next second, Claus almost snarled through gritted teeth, "It's you."Ryan smiled, setting his fishing rod in place. "So what if it's me? You can't control your own Luna. Who can you blame?"As soon as those words left his mouth, I could almost imagine how twisted Claus' expression had become right now.Sure enough, his voice shifted completely. "You're asking for it—"But Ryan hung up the phone before Claus could finish. He turned to look at me, that mock-innocent smile still floating on the surface of his gaze. "I told him off for you."As I looked at him, I couldn't hold back a laugh. "Why did you stir things up?"His tone was lazy. "Who told him to treat you like that?"I asked, "Is it just for me? No ulterior motive?""My lady, compared to getting back at Bella, I want to help you more."He was so close that for a sp
