Chapter 4

Autor: Jojo
"Rowena Sawthorne, what are you planning to do to Brett! Don't you dare lay a finger on him!" I shrieked hysterically.

Rowena instantly cowered in Wesley's arms. She looked up with tears welling in her eyes, sounding aggrieved, "Maggie, what are you saying? Brett is being looked after by the best nannies. How could you accuse me like this in public?"

I tried my best to use the mind-link to sense Brett, but I couldn't sense anything. My instincts told me that something must have happened to him.

I grabbed Wesley's arm and said with a trembling voice, "Wesley, I beg you. Trust me, just this once! O-Our son is in danger!"

Wesley merely shrugged me off impatiently. He yelled, annoyed, "Maggie, enough! Rowena has kindly helped to look after Brett, and this is how you repay her? How could you!"

I froze on the spot as I felt a chill run down my back. I never thought that in his eyes, I already become so despicable.

Rowena sobbed as if on cue, "Maggie must be blaming me for spending too much time with you, Wesley. It's fine. I know she has post-partum depression. I don't blame her. It's all my fault."

Then, she lifted her hand as if about to slap herself.

Wesley immediately stopped her. He glared at me icily. "Maggie, having depression isn't a reason for you to hurt someone! You think that just because you are ill, everyone has to give in to you?

"I'm starting to suspect that perhaps you weren't even sick at all! That all this is just your tactic to gain sympathy! You apologize to Rowena right at once!"

He gripped my wrist so tightly that I was sweating cold sweat. I opened my mouth, but accidentally spat out black blood, which splattered onto his sleeve.

A wave of gasps erupted from the crowd.

Wesley let me go, looking shocked. "W-What's going on with you?"

The Wolfsbane was going to take full effect soon. I did not have much time left. But even until my last breath, I was going to save my pup.

I suppressed the blood in my throat and slowly knelt on my knees in front of everyone.

"Rowena, I'm sorry."

I looked at her, barely able to hide her smug smile. I asked Wesley, "Are you happy now?"

Wesley was stunned. His face lost its color. "Y-You didn't have to."

"Maggie's apology was so sincere," Rowena interrupted as she slowly approached me. "Your mother must have done a lot to teach you how to be a Luna."

Then, she bent down and whispered smugly in my ear, "By the way, I forgot to tell you. The black market is really happy with your pup's heart. But since it's for a good cause to save someone, I only charged them 200 bucks. Once I get the money, I'll split half with you. How's that?"

Her words were like a bomb detonating in my mind.

I tried to pounce on Rowena hysterically once more, but Wesley shoved me aside.

"Maggie! You're still trying to hurt her!" Wesley barked in surprise and fury.

I lay on the ground, clearly sensing the link between Brett and me getting weaker by the moment.

Then, in despair and pain, I slowly lost consciousness.

Late that night, when Wesley returned home, exhausted from the day, he entered a dark house.

He never thought that Maggie, who caused a scene, didn't even call him. She didn't even send a text to ask about his whereabouts.

An inexplicable sense of panic ran down his back. The next second, he kicked a mug on the floor. When he picked it up, he could smell the thick scent of Wolfsbane in the mug.

At that moment, his phone rang shrilly, cutting through the silence like a knife. It was from the clinic.

"Wesley, please come to the clinic, right away!"

In the dark and damp prison cell, Rowena was shackled in the corner. Her hair was in a mess, and her body was covered in dirt, injuries, and blood. When she heard footsteps, she looked up. She saw Wesley and couldn't help but tremble. "Wesley, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have hurt Maggie. I shouldn't have hurt Brett. I shouldn't have been so delusional to think that I could be Luna. Please let me go. Please. I'm begging you."Wesley snickered, his eyes gleaming murderously. "Rowena, when have I ever said that you could be Luna?"He grabbed Rowena by the chin and said icily, "Ever since the beginning, my only mate is Maggie. Only she has the right to be Luna.""No matter what, I have done all this for you."Wesley was so furious that he sneered. "So, you deliberately sent flirtatious photos to Maggie's mother, causing her to die. It's because of me, too?"Rowena looked at Wesley, her eyes filled with terror. "You found out about this."Wesley wiped his hand with d

When Wesley arrived back at the clinic, the lights to the operating theater sign just switched off.He rushed over and asked in concern and fear, "How is she?"The doctor smiled in relief. "Luckily, the poison that Maggie consumed was placed for a long time. The toxicity wasn't that strong. This was the only reason we managed to save her. Now, she needs rest. Her life is no longer in danger."Wesley sighed in relief. With reddened eyes, he muttered, "Thank goodness."For the following week, I was always unconscious. Wesley stayed by the side of my bed, not daring to even close his eyes to sleep. In a few short days, he seemed to have aged ten years.Although I was deep asleep, my consciousness was unusually clear. I could smell Wesley's unique scent enveloping me, but it no longer stirred anxiety or panic within me.This near-death experience seemed to have cured me of my many years of post-partum depression.I no longer lost sleep or felt anxious when I couldn't feel his scent

When Wesley entered Rowena's place, he didn't see Brett anywhere. He headed to the bedroom when he heard Rowena cackling victoriously. "I heard that Maggie poisoned herself. What did I say a long time ago? How could trash like her ever compete with me?"I finally found a way to get rid of that pup. Only my pup will be the next heir to the Alpha."Do it cleanly. Don't ever let Alpha find out about this. Once I become Luna, I'll reward you all handsomely!"Every single word stabbed brutally into Wesley's ears.He kicked the bedroom door open. His eyes were terrifyingly bloodshot.Rowena was smiling triumphantly, but froze when she saw Wesley. She frantically hung up."Wesley, you're here." Rowena forced herself to stay calm. She went up to him and tried to hold his arm, saying coquettishly, "I was just about to look for you."Wesley slapped her so hard that she stumbled and fell to the floor."Got rid of the pup? What did you do to Brett?"Rowena was so terrified by his murde

"Maggie has been poisoned by Wolfsbane! Her condition is extremely critical!" yelled the doctor.Wesley rubbed his temple in exhaustion. He snapped icily, "This trick again? Tell her to stop making a scene."Yet, from the bottom of his heart, a sense of uneasiness started to bubble. He looked at the empty bottle of Wolfsbane. He suddenly recalled that it was hidden in the deepest part of his safe."I'm serious. Maggie is in the operating theater right now."When Wesley realized that the doctor wasn't lying, his mind suddenly went blank. He ran as fast as he could to the clinic. When a sweaty doctor walked out of the operating theater, Wesley immediately stopped him in his tracks, asking in a hoarse voice, "How is she doing?"The doctor sounded worried. "Maggie was already weak from post-partum depression. Her body simply can't withstand the corrosion of Wolfsbane. Her heart is on the verge of stopping."Wesley's face turned as pale as a sheet. All he could hear was buzzing in

When I opened my eyes once more, I was on a bed in the hospital.Wesley was sitting next to me, his eyes bloodshot. However, the tenderness in his gaze that he once held for me was gone, replaced with heavy disappointment."Rowena stayed up late last night to help me organize the hunting plans for our territory. Nothing is going on between us. Why would you cause such a scene just because you're jealous! You're even faking an illness to gain pity?"He added, "You should remember that you're still the Luna of the pack! Don't just cause trouble whenever you please."I was stunned. My gaze landed on the forged medical report that diagnosed that my blood sugar level was just low. I smiled self-deprecatingly.Alright, then. I don't need anyone to feel guilty or feel sorry for me. I just want to quietly vanish without causing any trouble. Before he left, he said warningly, "Tomorrow is the pack's gala. Don't fool around. Don't embarrass me in front of the entire pack."The next day,
