Chapter 10

Author: Windie
Wendy listened to him, finding his words almost laughable.

Learned her lesson?

What lesson was she supposed to learn?

What had she done wrong?

Was her mistake believing he'd rescued her that day?

Falling in love with him?

Marrying him?

Or was her greatest mistake failing to see what kind of man he really was until it was too late?

But Wendy said nothing.

She simply closed her eyes, unwilling to look at him anymore.

Felix frowned at her stubborn silence and the way she'd completely shut herself off from him.

In the end, he said nothing more.

He had business to attend to, so he got up and left.

For the next several days, Wendy remained in the hospital, quietly recovering on her own.

Occasionally, she'd receive messages from Grace, complete with photographs of her and Felix enjoying themselves on vacation.

Sunshine. Beaches.

Felix still rarely smiled, but he looked relaxed standing beside Grace.

Grace's messages were sickeningly sweet.

Felix said I was traumatized by what happened, so he brought me to the Maldives to help me relax! Take good care of yourself, Wendy. Don't worry about us!

Wendy looked at the photographs without feeling a thing.

She didn't bother replying.

She simply turned off her phone.

Out of sight, out of mind.

The days passed quietly until she finally received a call from her father.

“All the divorce paperwork has been finalized. Legally speaking, you and Felix Foster have nothing to do with each other anymore.”

“I'll notify the Fosters as well. You're free now. Go wherever you want. Just remember, don't ever come back to Harbour City.”

Free.

Wendy held the phone, letting that word sink in.

Something stirred faintly in her chest.

After hanging up, she walked over to the window.

There seemed to be some sort of event that day, and everyone had left the Foster family estate.

She stared at the magnificent mansion that had been her prison for three years.

A look of determination flashed across her eyes.

She took out her phone and dialed a number.

“Hello. I want to buy ten tons of explosives.”

Once she'd made all the arrangements, Wendy changed into her simplest clothes.

She packed nothing.

Taking only her passport, she hailed a cab to the airport.

In the departure lounge, she watched planes taking off and landing beyond the windows.

Then she took out her phone.

On the screen was a live feed from the security cameras at the Foster family estate.

Wendy watched the mansion where she'd spent three years enduring endless restrictions, humiliation, and pain.

A cold, defiant smile spread across her lips.

She pressed a button on her phone.

At that very moment, on the other side of Harbour City, a muffled explosion erupted from the direction of the Foster estate.

Seconds later, flames and thick black smoke shot into the sky, lighting up half the night.

The blast was so powerful that its distant rumble could even be heard at the airport.

The departure lounge erupted into commotion.

Terrified travelers turned toward the direction of the explosion.

Wendy looked down at her phone.

The live security feed had dissolved into static.

Her expression remained completely unchanged.

She stood up, walked over to a trash can, and dropped the phone with its specially installed software inside without a moment's hesitation.

Then she turned away, boarding the earliest available flight out of the city with her ticket and passport in hand.

She never looked back.

The plane climbed into the clouds.

Far below, Harbour City grew smaller and smaller.

Wendy leaned against the window, gazing at the pure white clouds and brilliant blue sky beyond the glass.

She drew a deep breath.

From now on, Wendy Walker would live for herself and herself alone.

Free. Fearless. Untamed.

Like a heron soaring across the open sky, beyond anyone's reach.

Her voice was calm, without anger, resentment, or even the slightest hint of emotion.Yet every word cut deeper than any blade.“Felix Foster, just look at yourself.”She paused.“It's pathetic. And ridiculous.”Then her red lips parted, delivering the words that would destroy what little hope he had left.“Falling in love with you was the biggest humiliation of my life.”Her voice turned firm, leaving no room for argument.“Please stay out of my life. Forever.”With that, she turned away without sparing him another glance. She reached for Leo's arm and leaned gently against him.Leo slipped an arm around her waist and cast one last cold look at Felix, who remained kneeling in the snow, looking as though every last bit of life had drained from him. Then he guided Wendy toward the warmly lit glass cabin.Wendy never looked back.Felix remained motionless in the freezing snow, like a statue abandoned to the elements. He watched the two figures in matching white coats disap

In the end, Felix resorted to shady connections and paid an enormous price to uncover Wendy and Leo's itinerary. They'd arrived in Iceland aboard a private jet and checked into an extremely secluded, luxurious glass-dome hotel near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in southern Iceland.Felix immediately rented an SUV.He didn't even bother getting proper winter clothing.Still wearing his thin suit, he drove straight into the brutal Icelandic winter, desperate to reach them.Outside his windows, a blizzard raged.Visibility was terrible, and the roads were dangerously slippery.Felix floored the accelerator. The SUV skidded across the icy road, threatening to spin out of control, but he didn't care.Only one thought filled his mind.Catch up to her. Stop her. After several grueling hours of driving, during which he nearly crashed more than once, he finally reached the remote hotel after dark. The property consisted of several separate glass-domed cabins scattered across the wilder

The color drained from Felix's face. His hand froze in midair, still holding the ring, and his eyes filled with disbelief and panic.“Wendy, I'm not putting on an act. I mean it. I love you.”“You mean it?”Wendy cut him off, her smile growing even colder. She slowly bent down and leaned close to his ear. When she spoke, her voice was barely loud enough for him to hear, but every word was painfully clear.“Then tell me something, Felix. Back when you staged that rescue to trick me into marrying you, when you turned me into a target so you could protect your precious Grace, did you tell yourself you were doing it out of love, too?”Felix went rigid. The words hit him like a bolt of lightning. His pupils contracted, and he stared at her in horror. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.Panic and regret crashed over him, leaving him utterly speechless.Wendy straightened. This time, she raised her voice so everyone around them could hear.“But there's one very important
