Amelia's POV

I hadn't slept at all.

Ethan sat at the end of the couch, elbows on his knees, face curled into his hands. Standing in my position across the room, I watched him, chewing at the inside of my cheek until the metallic hint of blood arose.

"Again, if you please," he said, his voice gruff. "Tell me why you want us to reject Veronica's offer. Don't you think it's the only choice we have now? I mean, I don't trust the woman, but she could get prove useful.”

"Because we're not trading one monster in for another," I replied, my voice clipped. I didn't like Veronica and I didn't trust her. "Even with all her help, she'll bleed this company dry until we have nothing. We would have no power to fight against her."

He did not argue, but I could feel the urge seething underneath. I could see it in the faint twitch of his jawline and the agitated clench of his fingers.

I walked over to him and kneeled alongside him, wrapping my hand gently around his.

POV: Ethan"Where the hell did she go?"That was the first thought that cut through the morning haze as I stirred and found the other side of the bed cold and empty.I sat up slowly, running a hand over my face. My body still ached pleasantly from the night before, but the sting of her absence burned hotter than anything else. Her pillow was untouched. She hadn’t even pretended to lie back down.I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and pushed myself upright, muttering under my breath. “Figures…”The cane clicked against the floor as I made my way to the bathroom, then dressed quickly. My shirt was wrinkled, my tie knotted haphazardly — but all I could think about was where she’d gone, and why she hadn’t bothered to wake me.When I finally limped into the dining room, the clatter of cutlery and low murmur of voices filled the air. And there she was.She was sitting at a corner table near the windows, the morning light catching on the soft waves of her hair. My heart tightened at th

Amelia's pov "You should leave, Sienna."The sound of his voice startled me more than her presence ever could.I’d only come to the doorway to tell her myself, to tell her to get out of my room and out of my life. But the words never made it past my lips, because Ethan beat me to it — and he didn’t even raise his voice.Sienna went still where she stood, one manicured hand resting on the back of my chair, a faint, self-satisfied smirk still playing on her lips. It faltered now, her stare darting between the two of us as though she couldn’t quite believe she’d heard me correctly. Her laugh was short and brittle. “I’m sorry… what did you just say?”Ethan straightened slowly, one hand gripping his cane like it was the only thing holding him up. He met her eyes squarely, his expression flat, his words calm and unshakable.“I said,” he repeated, “you should leave. Now.”It landed like a blow.I could actually see her chest rise sharply as she sucked in a breath. But then her sharp little

Ethan's pov "You really don’t know when to stop, do you?"Her voice cut through the silence of the hallway, sharp and shaking all at once.I didn’t move. My palm stayed flat against the wall by her head, my chest rising and falling like I’d just run ten miles. Her lips were swollen from my kiss. Her cheeks flushed. Her eyes darted away from mine like she couldn’t bear to let me see just how much she wanted me back."Say something," she demanded.I dragged in a breath, letting it out slowly. “I can’t stop. That’s the problem.”She let out a short, humorless laugh and shoved at my chest. Hard enough that I stepped back.“You’re possessive. You don’t even see it.”“You think I don’t?” I shot back, my voice rising. She froze, staring at me like she wasn’t expecting me to answer.I raked a hand through my damp hair, gripping the back of my neck. “You keep pushing me away. Every damn time I try to fix things, you push harder. Is this what you want? You want to punish me? Fine. Punish me. B

Amelia's pov "You shouldn’t have kissed me."That was the first thing I’d said to him as we stepped back inside last night, rain dripping from my hair, my sweater plastered to my skin. And he’d just… looked at me. His thumb still resting against my cheek, his lips still parted from the kiss, and something raw in his eyes that made my stomach twist."Then stop letting me."I’d ripped my arm out of his grasp after that and walked away before he could say anything else. But lying in bed now, I couldn’t stop replaying it.His hand cupping my jaw, and the way his shirt bunched in my fists. The sound of rain hitting the terrace while his mouth moved against mine, first tentative, then hungry.I rolled onto my side and pressed my face into the pillow, groaning softly. I hated him for making me feel like this. And I hated myself for letting it happen.I didn’t fall asleep until the sky outside had started to lighten.Breakfast was quiet.I slipped into the lounge and slid into a chair at the

Ethan's pov I stood outside her door longer than I’d like to admit. The tray shook slightly in my hand. Two cups of coffee, still steaming. A plate of those tiny lemon pastries she liked. What the hell was I even doing?I cleared my throat and knocked with my knuckle. “Amelia? It’s… me.” No answer, not that I was expecting a warm welcome. If she decided never to speak to me again I'll accept that.I tried again, a little louder this time. “Can we talk? Just for a minute?”A faint shuffle came from inside, like she’d moved closer. But she didn’t open the door.I let out a short laugh under my breath, though it sounded more like defeat. “Right. Not like I deserve you answering.”I bent to set the tray on the little table outside her door — and felt my cane slide out from under me. The wet tile under my bad leg was slick, and I went down hard, one knee cracking against the marble with a dull smack.“Shit,” I hissed, grabbing for the table as the tray tipped over, cups spilling everywher

Ethan's pov “Ethan, don't open the door.” Sienna cooed. The knocking started out light — a polite tap against the wood — but it quickly grew louder.Sienna didn’t flinch. She stayed straddling me on the edge of her bed, her silk robe hanging loose off one shoulder, her fingers still knotted in the collar of my shirt like she owned me. Her voice was soft and lazy, almost amused.“Don’t,” she murmured. “Whoever it is, just let them go. You owe yourself that much.”But already something ugly was crawling up the back of my neck. My stomach sank, when the knock came again. I didn’t know how I knew — but I knew who was at the door. “Ethan.” Amelia called out, still knocking on the door. The sound of it made my hands go clammy.“Open up.”Sienna stilled, her smirk faltering just enough for me to see her eyes dart toward the door. I sat there for a beat, staring at the floor between her knees, my throat dry, my chest tightening as though every inch of air in the room had just been sucked o
