Chapter 38: Integration

I left the temple and went straight home, crawling into bed. I refused to process anything that had happened. Tonight, I was just a normal seventeen-year-old girl. Tomorrow? I’d wake up a magical wolf with winter powers.

That night, I had another dream of the winter land. The world was frozen, a vast, endless tundra. Snow covered everything, and the air was sharp and still. But despite the cold, I felt fine—strong, even. The only problem was... I was alone.

Where was everyone?

I turned, searching, but there was nothing. Just me and the silence. Then, a large snowflake drifted down from the sky, falling slowly, just like in the temple. It was glowing, impossibly bright. When it reached me, it didn’t land in my palm—it sank into my chest.

A sudden surge of power tore through me. I screamed, the force of it too much to handle.

A voice whispered in my mind, calm and steady.

"Let the power flow through you. Own it. I will be with you soon. We will do this together."

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 39: Training

I walked away before I lost any more brain cells."Jasmine, you can't be part of his groupies. You are my friend," I scolded, half kidding."Well, let me remind you that I have eyeballs, and they can see what they can see. And right now, they are seeing a very fine specimen. Like, I have never seen a man so gorgeous in my life." She sighed dramatically. "I don't know what the goddess has in store for me, but my mate better be his twin.""I'm his twin," I deadpanned. She snorted. "Yeah, but you don't have the muscles, the jaw for days, or the body part I need. I'll pass.""Goddess, ew! He is my brother. I do not want to hear about his body parts!" I groaned. "Let’s go. I need to get my muscles going."I was assigned to Brandon for sparring."Alright, let’s see what you got," Brandon said, slipping into a fighting stance.I mimicked him, bracing myself. Training had been brutal here, but I was improving. My movements were sharper, my reactions quicker. Today, I was determined to push mys

Here we were again, by the lake, but this time, things were different. For the past few weeks, my nights had followed a routine. Sparring with Alpha Rhett while Brandon shouted pointers. Then, once I was exhausted, I would sit back and watch as Rhett and Brandon fought—analyzing their movements, learning their strategies. Afterward, we'd walk back to my house, which was close to the lake, and have dinner. But tonight, Ares was here.I had no idea what that would look like."Alright," Rhett said, his deep voice cutting through the night air. "For tonight’s training, we’re doing a competition. First one to hit the ground loses. Winner moves on to the next opponent. No rest between rounds."A slow smirk spread across my face. This was going to be fun."First up, Ares and Aury," Rhett announced.Ares turned to me, grinning. "Aury, huh? I see you two are getting close." He nudged my shoulder playfully."If you don’t shut up, you might wake up with something crawling on your face," I shot ba

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 41: Fight

The battle raged on.Our warriors were well-trained, their attacks coordinated, but it didn’t matter. We were losing. The creature was too big, too strong—even for werewolf standards. Every time we gained an advantage, it tore through our defenses like they were nothing. And worst of all—It had fire magic.Flames erupted from its hands, setting parts of the forest ablaze. The scent of burning wood and singed fur filled the air. Warriors dodged, some barely escaping the searing heat. Others weren’t as lucky.Screams. Snarls. Flesh meeting flesh. And then—It stopped.Right in the middle of the carnage, the creature went still. Its glowing, sickly yellow eyes locked onto me.My breath hitched. It just stood there, staring. Its chest heaved, its massive claws flexing at its sides. It said something in a language I didn’t recognize—deep, guttural, and ancient.A shiver ran down my spine.Ares stepped in front of me, his entire body tense, his stance protective. His arm brushed against min

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 42: Talk

Chapter 42: The TalkThe next morning, I found myself standing in front of the packhouse. Now, mind you, I had never actually been here before—for some reason, I had avoided it. Maybe because it felt too official, too much like stepping deeper into a life I wasn’t sure I belonged to.The building was stunning. It was crafted from metal and glass, yet it somehow looked like a cabin, blending rustic charm with modern luxury. It was the perfect marriage of old and new, like everything in this pack—like Alpha Rhett himself.I hesitated at the massive doors.Do I knock? Ring the bell? Do werewolves even use doorbells? Before I could decide

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 43: The Library

Chapter 43: The LibraryAfter leaving Rhett’s office, I made my way downstairs to the lower level of the pack house. The air grew cooler with each step, the scent of aged parchment and candle wax thickening as I descended. The hallway was dimly lit, lined with thick stone walls, with torches flickering in iron sconces. It felt ancient, untouched by time, as if stepping into a sacred place meant only for those who sought true knowledge. Then I opened the door. The library was massive. Shelves stretched from floor to ceiling, overflowing with books, scrolls, and worn tomes that smelled of history and secrets waiting to be uncovered. A massive wooden table stood in the center, surrounded by high-backed chairs, and tucked into a far corner was a grand fireplace, embers still glowing faintly in the hearth.I exhaled slowly. This is it.Stepping further inside, my fingers traced the spines of books as I scanned the titles, searching for anything related to priestesses. After a few minutes,

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 44: Mine

I woke up to the warmth of a body beside me. The most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on—my mate. Shanika. She smelled like summer and strawberries, a scent that had become intoxicatingly familiar. I brushed a strand of hair away from her face and pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder, trailing my lips down the delicate curve of her neck. She stirred, letting out a sleepy hum, her body instinctively responding to my touch.Everything about her was mesmerizing. The way her breath hitched, the way her skin flushed under my lips—she was perfect. I started with small kisses on her neck and trailed it down the vale of her round, firm breast. I stopped to tease them a little; a lick and two, they immediately responded. I continued my way down to the prize. Her blue satin panties removed slowly with my teeth. Finally, the breakfast I was looking for. She was in a semi-awake state, still drunk with sleep. She shifted beneath me, her eyes fluttering open, a lazy smile spreading across her

My mom and I started heading out the door when I felt someone behind me. I didn’t have to turn around to know who it was.“Ares, what are you doing?” I asked, a bit annoyed.“Hey, Snow, I’m doing my job. I’m protecting you.” His tone was smug, like he was enjoying this way too much.“Protect me from what?” I asked, crossing my arms.Totally ignoring the fact that some giant monster keeps attacking the pack in the late hours of the night.“Well, there have been attacks, and my job is to be your shadow. I’m putting my beta training on hold to be here. Don’t act like you don’t need me.”I sighed, rolling my eyes. He wasn’t entirely wrong, but I hated being followed around like I was fragile.“Fine, come along.”The night was clear, and the moon loomed huge and bright in the sky. It bathed everything in silver, and I could almost feel its energy pulsing through the air. The lake shimmered under its light, an eerie yet mesmerizing sight. When we arrived, my mother turned to me with a calm,

Rhett’s POV“Alpha, the training for Aurelia begins tonight,” Brandon said, his voice measured but firm.“Okay, sounds fun. So what does she have to do? Meditate?” I asked, only half-interested—until I saw the way his expression darkened.“You could say that... but it’s a bit more involved since she has to drown first.”“Excuse me?” I shot up from my chair, rage instantly curling hot in my gut. “What the hell did you just say?”“She has to go into the lake, submerge herself in the moon’s reflection, and stay under until she passes out. Amanda will be there to pull her out, and I’ll be standing by with emergency equipment, but—”A growl ripped from my throat before he could finish. My wolf surged to the surface, barely restrained, my nails elongating slightly as anger pulsed through me.“She cannot be drowned,” I snarled. “That’s insanity. How the hell is Amanda okay with this?”“She’s not,” Brandon admitted. “She’s tried to stop it, but Aurelia won’t back down. You know how she is.”I

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 68: Anxiety

Aurelia’s POVAs we ran through the forest, feeling the wind rush past us and the soft earth and fine grass under our paws, I felt free, truly, deeply free. Then I heard a shuffle in the bushes. My ears perked up; my body tensed. A rogue? A demon? I scanned the trees.Something large moved to my right, a blur in the corner of my vision. I spun around, but it vanished. Then, behind me. My heart pounded. And then…“Scared?” A voice asked in my mind, but it wasn’t Alba’s.“No. We’re waiting for you to stop your prank and show yourself,” Alba said sharply.“Here I am.”From the shadows, a massive black wolf emerged, Alpha Rhett’s wolf.“Alpha, it is nice to meet you. I am Alba,” my wolf greeted.“I am Rhys,” he replied. So that was his name, Rhys. His wolf.“Is this your first run?”“Yes. The attack left no time to explore. But here we are, finally enjoying this beautiful place.”“Let me not hold you back then.”We dipped our heads in acknowledgment and took off again. I noticed Rhys fa

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 67: Sister

Aurelia’s POVLight. Bright, blinding light.I blinked once. Twice. A million times. It took me a while to adjust to my surroundings. The hum of machines. Distant voices. A window overlooking a beautiful stretch of forest. I was in the pack’s hospital.“We don’t need a hospital. We can heal ourselves. We were just sleeping it off.”Wait—who was that? “Are you serious? Alba, hello?!”My wolf. My wolf!“Yes, you do. And you’re lucky, human, to be soul-bound with me.”“Alba! How are we even talking? Do I just... think at you?”“Yes. Like we’re doing now.”I felt sore. “How long have we been in this bed?”“A couple of days, I think.”This wasn’t the first time I’d overslept something major.“Your body’s adjusting. A new wolf, me, and a strong one at that. Beautiful, too. Plus, your goddess-given power.”“Hold up. How do you know you’re powerful and beautiful? And... power?”“I can feel it. And yes, your magic. But first, let’s go for a run.”“Let me get up first, then we’ll see about

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 66: Beta

Ares’ POV“Come on, Snow. You gotta get up,” I muttered to my sister, nudging her lightly. Two days. She’d slept for two whole days. Again. And I was over it.A groan came from the bed. I let out a breath. Well, that was better than the coma-like state she’d been in before.“Stop being a sleepyhead. I need you to wake up. We all need you,” I said, softer this time. The door creaked open behind me. “Has she moved or said anything?” Alpha Rhett asked.I didn’t even bother to hide my eye-roll. I didn’t care what anyone said—it was obvious he cared for her way more than any normal pack member. What Alpha spend two days straight sitting in someone’s hospital room?“She groaned,” I replied.“You should take a break. I’m here—I’ll watch over her.”Didn’t sound like I had a choice.“Sure. I’ll go get something to eat. Thanks,” I said, getting up.I stepped out of the room but didn’t walk away. I lingered by the small hallway window, peeking through the gaps in the blinds. I watched as Alpha

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 65: Jerry

Jerry’s POVI woke up at 4 a.m. The sky outside was still dark and quiet. My body moved through its routine without thought—wake up, hit the gym, spar with one of the warriors. Then breakfast. Then the office. I had to process payroll before the banks opened. Running a pack isn’t for the faint of heart. My lovely mate was still sleeping. She enjoys her mornings slow, and I’m okay with that. Jeremy, on the other hand, was also asleep, and that I wasn’t okay with. He should be up with me, getting his discipline set. Instead, he was still floating in the honeymoon phase with his new mate.A gamma is not a bad match for an alpha. But he gave up a beta-blooded female with high priestess potential. Fated mate or not, he made a political mistake. That kind of bond could have brought strength to the pack—especially with these demon attacks getting worse. My own fated mate died in a rogue attack before we had a chance to mate. I chose another, Jeremy’s mother. Chosen mates are just as good, s

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 64: Wolf

"Hi," I said timidly. She stood before me, tall, radiant, cloaked in fur as white as snow with eyes like garnets, glowing from within. My wolf. She was... like me."I have been waiting for this moment," she said. Her voice was regal, calm, and ancient. "I am Alba, descendant of the goddess Kheimon, first of my kind. High Priestess of Winter.""Is that who we are?" I asked, my voice trembling with awe. "High Priestess of Winter?""Yes, young one. That is who we are. Do you not feel our power?""I do," I whispered. "I felt it... when we attacked the demon."Only then did I look around us. We stood in what looked like the middle of a frozen ocean. Ice stretched in every direction, flawless and glistening, with no land in sight. Above us, the sky was glowing with soft, golden light, ethereal, energizing. Peaceful. Magical."Yes, we wounded that demon," she said."I thought we killed it. It turned to smoke after our attack.""To kill a demon requires more than drawing its blood," she said

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 63: Survivor

The demon's grip tightened. The pressure was excruciating. I could not move, and I could not fill my lungs with air anymore. My ribs cracked, at least one of them did. I couldn't scream. Couldn’t move. The heat scorched through me, blistering my skin. I was suffocating, burning, and breaking. This is it, I thought. This is how I die.But just as the world began to fade into nothingnessI heard her.A voice. Fierce. Wild. Mine but not mine.“You will not kill us.”A sharp pain tore through my chest, not from the demon, but from within. It was like lightning cracked open my soul. My head snapped back, eyes wide, and my whole body exploded with a blinding white light. The demon howled.Frost spread across its hand and arm. The cold energized me; it was me as another surge came through my body. All the frustration, the weakness, the fear, it all exploded and dissipated in an explosion. As the demon’s hand shattered into a million pieces. It roared in agony. I fell hard onto the stone ste

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 62: Echoes

POV: AureliaI woke up feeling strangely rested, as if the chaos of yesterday hadn’t left its mark. But it had. A warrior from another pack had been murdered inside our borders, and his chest was carved open, a demon mark left behind. And last night, I dreamt again. No, not a dream. The demon spoke to me.It felt too vivid, too real. Like it was no longer bound to the other side but slipping into this world… into mine. And then Rhett showed up. Like a knight in dark armor, he held me through the night. I’d fallen asleep in his arms and somehow ended up in my bed this morning. Ares was home. So was Mom, if the smell of bacon coming from the kitchen was anything to go by.Today, I needed normalcy.Breakfast with the family. Morning practice. After training, I went home, worked on some new jewelry, then walked to Market Street to drop them off at one of the shops that sold my work. I even considered expanding and maybe start selling online or even in human markets. Crazy, right? The sun d

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 61: Shadows

POV: RhettI woke before dawn, a hum of unease crawling beneath my skin. It wasn’t the usual stress of leadership or the weight of politics pressing down on me. No, this was different. This was dread.I didn’t even make it to the war room before Brandon intercepted me in the hallway. His face was pale, his jaw clenched.“It’s Jonas,” he said.Jonas, the emissary from Crescent Ridge. Sharp. Steady. Loyal to the cause, if not to me.“Where?”“Behind the barracks. You’ll want to see this.”We moved through the thick morning mist in silence. The compound was quiet, save for the distant cry of a crow. One for death. Two for trouble. I remembered my grandmother saying that once.Jonas lay in the clearing, and one look told me everything. Not just murder. Ritual. His chest had been carved open with sickening precision. Symbols burned into his flesh pulsed faintly—demonic, like the ones Aurelia had described. There was no blood. No sign of a struggle. As if he’d gone willingly.Or been taken i

  • Whispers of Frost and Fire   Chapter 60: Uncover

Aurelia’s POVI didn’t stop running. Not until I reached the pack house, not until I was standing in front of Alpha Rhett’s office door, panting, my heart pounding harder than it should’ve been. That symbol, branded into the temple stone like a fiery curse, was still seared into my mind.I knocked. Harder than necessary. The door cracked open, but it wasn’t Rhett who answered. Lily stepped out, looking… disheveled. Her lipstick was smeared, her hair mussed like she’d just rolled out of bed—or someone’s arms. She tugged down her tiny dress, pretending not to notice the flush on her cheeks.I stood there, frozen.Lily.Hair tousled, lipstick smeared, tugging at the hem of a too-short dress like it might magically grow an inch if she pulled hard enough. Her smirk was smug, but her eyes flashed like she’d been caught.Great.“Look what the avalanche dragged in,” she purred with a cruel smile. “A frozen corpse. Oops. Sorry, Aury—I got confused for a second. Your paleness threw me off.”Bi
