The smell of wet forest after a long rain and sun heated honey, wakes me from my sleep. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to escape by now, but nothing I do seems to work. More and more wolves are going missing, if Tam’s growing hysteria is anything to go by.

I can hear someone murmuring, which is odd. I don’t usually get visitors down here, more of a lock him up and forget about him crew we’ve got in this hell hole. I’m lucky if I get one meal every day, and that’s only on the days people aren’t going missing. It’s like Tam’s determined to punish someone for the disappearances, and I’m the only one around that has wronged her.

“…she isn’t looking good…”

“…it’s the iron…”

“…like that time we got locked in the cellar on accident?” I focus in to listen closer, realizing it’s two men talking, rather than someone murmuring to themselves. Who are they?

“Exactly like that time, but fully.” A gruff voice says.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Another huffs in frustration.

Kai’s approach to battle is brutal and fast. He rips through the first man like he was nothing more than ripping a piece of paper. “That one should count as two,” he yells at me.I scoff, “Just because you rip them in two doesn’t mean they count as two.”He curses under his breath but I ignore him, focusing in on the men who have branched off from stalking him and instead are trying to surround me. I call on the earth, asking for it’s aid. But this time it doesn’t have to stop at maiming, since we can’t leave any of them alive anyway. It vibrate in excitement, a large fissure breaking open at my feet and crawling toward the men. It opens up, swallowing them whole. They scream as they fall, a loud crunch from their body hitting the hard spikes at the bottom. I dig my fingers into the dirt at my feet, feeling for heartbeats and finding none.“Three,” I yell out as Kai dodges a tranq gun.“What?” Kai screams in outrage, turning toward me. “You cheated.”“Better move faster, prince. She’s

“Over my dead body,” Rhett growls, looking as if he will get out of the car.I grab his arm, “Stay, please. We can’t afford to let them take one of us because we were stupid… again.”“Speak for yourself,” Kai snorts. “I was enraptured by a beauty, not stupid.”I roll my eyes, focusing back on the line of people blocking our way. “How long of a drive did you say we had left?”“A few days if we push it without stopping,” Brax mutters, keeping his voice low as he watches the people in front of us.“Okay, well,” I swallow, weighing all of our options. “It’s Kai and me that they want. We should give them what they want.”Rhett and Brax go to argue but Kai just chuckles. “I like the way you think Pixie. Think you’ll be able to keep up?”“Well we can’t let those two be the ones to have all the fun, can we?” I chuckle, watching as the blood beneath Kai’s skin starts to churn. “Wanna make it interesting.”“Please tell me we’re not making a game out of our mates life?” Rhett looks to Brax for h

I glance between the three of them, narrowing my eyes at the chagrined look on Kai’s face. I knew he looked familiar, he was the King’s brother. I’m in the presence of royalty, but all I want to do is knock his teeth in for sitting so close to my mate. But another part of me, the wolf part, doesn’t seem to mind it as much. He seems to think we’re going to need the help, and sharing her won’t be as bad as I think.“Why would it hurt to tell me how you met?”“Imightofhadtohelpthemkidnapher,” Kai mutters quickly.Lena bursts out laughing, and it takes a minute for me to remember how to breathe in front of her beauty. Sure, she’s always beautiful, but when she smiles it’s like the sun has come out on a rainy day, and when she laughs, my soul can finally breathe. And, if the looks on the others faces mean anything, they feel the same way.Maybe it won’t be the worst thing to share her with men who will actually care for her. I shake my head, focusing back on Kai.“I’m sorry, can you repeat

Fire blazes a path through my veins at the idea of someone else catching Kai’s eyes, even if it was before he met me. And I know I’m being ridiculous, but the mate bond won’t let my anger go.Rhett starts to laugh, clutching his side as his eyes bounce between the two of us. “Tell me you got kidnapped from the Redrock Pack lands.”Kai looks down, his cheeks taking on a rosy hue. “I may have been taken while on Redrock Pack lands…”My mind races with thoughts of who he could have seen, how many girls were eligible in the pack, when he would have met them, until I’m spiraling out of control.A firm hand on my chin has me looking into Kai’s stormy eyes. “I saw you, Lena.”My eyes furrow, unable to comprehend what he means as Rhett wipe the tears from his eyes. “I was running in the woods one day, on my way to meet with Tam, and I saw you. You were sitting out by the old ranger station, doodling in a book, and I couldn’t look away.”“I knew she was being followed,” Rhett chuckles. “I just

“Did I hear Tam right? She’s already called the pack?” I ask as Kai settles me into the backseat of our odd tank. Surprisingly enough, it’s still where we left it, untouched by the Redrock Pack.Kai nods before climbing in beside me. I rest my head on his shoulder as Brax gets behind the wheel, Rhett climbing into the passenger seat.“This car is a death trap, if you could call it a car,” Rhett mutters.“What did you say before? It’s not a death trap, she just has personality?” I tease from the backseat, my eyes taking in the trees as we head out of the pack compound.“Har-har,” Rhett deadpans and I laugh. “As for Tam, it seems that was her plan all along. They never tried to hurt me, but the never helped me either. It seems the minute I said I needed to save my mate, I became the perfect bait.”“Tam and I didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of things, but I didn’t think she could be this heartless.” I whisper.“You have to remember, she’s lost a lot of the pack she swore to protect,” Rhet

Usually when the vampire blood takes over, it’s as if the real Kai disappears, stuck behind darkness and anger. It overcomes everything within me, blocking out the world. I know that’s not how it’s supposed to be, having met plenty of normal vampires in my life, but somehow it mixes with my wolf in the worst way.But this time, knowing Lena needs me to focus and only break the bars that are making her sick, it’s like I can see clearly. I can hear as Rhett freaks out, though I have to give him respect for being fucking quiet about it. The last thing we need is for the wolves upstairs to get curious as I rip apart their cages. My muscles bunch, preparing to have to work to tear down the iron currently hurting my mate, but it’s like crumbling a piece of paper. The bars are like putty in my hands, bending and shaping to my will with a loud screech of metal.“There’s no way they didn’t hear that upstairs,” Brax murmurs.A soft hand grazes my back, “Kai?”I turn slowly, chest heaving from t
