After the message was sent, the group stayed silent for a full ten seconds. Then the chat exploded.

[???]

[Wait, Megan really bet 7,500 dollars?]

[Where did she get that kind of money? Don't tell me she borrowed it.]

[Who gets the money in the end? Let's make one thing clear: no backing out once the bet's placed!]

Naomi White was the first to jump in: [Meg, don't be impulsive. Everyone's just joking around. If you're short on cash, you'd better take that 7,500 dollars back.]

She hadn't changed at all. Every sentence carried a hidden sting, yet she always pretended she was only looking out for me.

She'd done the same thing throughout all three years of high school.

She'd had someone dump my lunch in the trash, then covered her mouth and said, "Oops, I was worried you wouldn't be able to control yourself, so I was helping you lose weight."

She'd thrown my school uniform into the boys' bathroom and forced me to attend class in clothes soaked with filthy water. She'd cornered me in the girls' bathroom, forced me onto a scale, and made me announce my weight in front of everyone.

In the end, she'd stuck a piece of paper on my back that read [No Food for Pigs], then made the entire class line up to take pictures.

And now, she'd reposted that video simply to remind everyone of one thing: no matter how many years had passed, I was still the same joke she could ridicule whenever she pleased.

I opened the betting rules. Naomi had bet 1,500 dollars that I wouldn't show up. Everyone else had chipped in a little over 4,500 dollars. I was the only one who had bet 7,500 dollars that I would come.

I slowly typed: [Don't worry. I can afford to lose.]

Naomi immediately replied with a giggling emoji: [That's great. I was worried you'd regret it when the time came.]

Someone else chimed in: [Nay, you're overthinking it. Maybe she's doing really well these days. How could she not be? If she skips two meals a month, she could've saved 7,500 dollars after a few years. Hahaha!]

The screen filled with laughing emojis.

I was about to leave the group chat when a private message popped up. It was from Matthew Cooper, the school's golden boy.

Back in high school, I'd liked him for all three years. Whenever he played basketball, I'd secretly buy him water. His stomach was sensitive, so every morning, I'd bring an extra container of hot oatmeal for him.

Later, he'd stuck the love letter I'd written him on the back wall of the classroom and laughed as he asked everyone, "What do you think? If she sat on me, would I survive?"

The whole class had laughed so hard the desks shook.

Now he'd sent me a message.

Matthew: [You're really coming? We were young back then. We didn't know any better. Don't take it too personally.]

I stared at the words "didn't know any better" and suddenly laughed. So all a bully had to do was grow up, and every cruel thing they'd ever done could be casually filed away as youthful stupidity.

Matthew: [Also, when I said I'd hug you in the group, I was just trying to ease the tension. Don't get the wrong idea. I have a girlfriend now.]

I finally replied with two words: [Don't worry.]

As if he were afraid I was still hung up on him, he immediately added: [She'll be at the reunion too. Just watch your boundaries. I don't want her to feel uncomfortable.]

I ignored him.

The moment I put my phone down, the doorbell rang.

My manager, Erin Morgan, walked in with two enormous garment bags in tow.

The moment she saw me, she frowned. "You're going to your high school reunion tomorrow, aren't you? That's your reaction? Anyone who didn't know better would think you were just going downstairs to pick up a package."

She unzipped the garment bags. Inside were more than a dozen dresses that hadn't even made their public debut yet.

I glanced at them. "They're too much."

Erin nearly laughed in frustration. "Your signing is being officially announced at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, and the company party is on the top floor of the Grandview Hotel. You still want to wear a hoodie?"

She held a silver-white gown against me, then quickly shook her head. "No. Too sweet."

Next, she pulled out a black velvet gown. The dress had no elaborate embellishments, but the cut accentuated the waist beautifully.

"This one. Tomorrow, I guarantee everyone who ever looked down on you will question their entire existence."

I looked toward the floor-length mirror. The woman reflected in it had a slender figure and cool, composed features. It had taken me five long years to go from 220 pounds to 110.

No one knew how I'd survived those days when the mockery had gotten so bad that I'd been afraid to look in the mirror.

Even fewer people knew that Starlight Entertainment, the company Naomi had failed to get into after three interviews, had already placed its highest-tier rookie contract in front of me.

Erin shoved the schedule into my hands. "Contract signing in the morning, wardrobe fitting in the afternoon, Grandview Hotel at 7:00 p.m. Eight sharp, the announcement goes live across every platform."

I lowered my eyes to the schedule.

The class reunion was on the third floor. The company party was on the top floor.

One was desperately trying to drag me back into the past. The other was waiting to propel me toward an entirely new future.

The next day, the bullying video Naomi had reposted shot to the top of the trending searches. But this time, I wasn't the one being publicly condemned. The full video showed Naomi and her friends blocking the bathroom door and forcing me onto the scale. Matthew stood beside them, laughing as he filmed. The other students lined up one after another to sign their names on the piece of paper taped to my back. The comment section was on fire.[This isn't a class reunion. It's a bully convention.][Still using a victim's trauma for entertainment as adults? Some people really never grow up.][The worst one is Matthew. He knew she liked him and deliberately used her feelings to pressure her into losing weight.]…Naomi posted an apology that same night. She said they'd been young back then and hadn't realized how much harm she'd caused. She also claimed she'd been under too much pressure lately and had acted irrationally. The internet wasn't buying it.The livestreaming company she w

When the recording ended, the private room fell so quiet you could hear a pin drop.Naomi stood frozen in place, her face alternating between pale and flushed. "Meg, what do you mean by recording me? Why are you trying to set me up over a few jokes between old classmates?"She was already trying to turn the blame back on me before I could say a word.Alexander frowned. "You call using someone else's pain for entertainment a joke?"Naomi's lips trembled. "Director Coleman, you've misunderstood. Megan and I have always been close. What happened back then was just us fooling around.""Close?" I picked up the old school uniform from the table. "Then put it on."Naomi froze. "What?"I held the uniform out to her. "Put it on and step onto the scale. Then stick this piece of paper on your back and let everyone take pictures of you again. If you honestly think there's nothing wrong with that, I'll admit I was just being too sensitive."Everyone turned to look at her. The classmates who

The moment Dominic finished speaking, the private room fell completely silent.Naomi shot to her feet. "Which Director Coleman?"Dominic glanced at her. "Director Alexander Coleman."The color drained from Naomi's face. Last year, she'd spent seven days waiting outside Alexander's studio just for a chance to meet him, but she hadn't even managed to get his assistant's contact information. Now, he was waiting for me upstairs. She forced a smile. "Meg, you know Director Coleman?"Before I could answer, my phone rang. It was Erin."Meg, we've got eight minutes. Director Coleman said he'd come down to get you himself. He's already in the elevator," she said. The room was so quiet that everyone heard every word.Matthew stared at me in disbelief. "What exactly do you do for work?""I'm an actress.""How is that possible?" Naomi blurted out. "Starlight didn't sign you!"I looked at her. "How would you know?"Caught off guard, she couldn't answer.Someone quietly reminded her, "D

The private room erupted."Matthew, keep your promise! If you can't lift 99 pounds, you really need to hit the gym. Who was it who said he'd end up in the orthopedic ward?"Everyone turned to Matthew. Before, they'd been cheering because they wanted to see him crushed under the weight of the 220-pound me. Now they were cheering because they were jealous that he was the one who got to hold me.Matthew had clearly noticed the difference too. He straightened his collar, a hint of smugness in his eyes. "I made a promise. Of course I'm not backing out."He had barely taken a step toward me when Sarah grabbed his arm. "No."Matthew frowned. "It's just a hug. Didn't you just say you weren't going to be jealous of her?"Sarah's face went pale. "I thought she was still 220 pounds!"The moment the words left her mouth, the entire room fell silent.I laughed. "So when I was 220 pounds, you didn't mind. But now that I'm 99 pounds, suddenly you do?"Sarah was speechless.Matthew shook off

As soon as I announced my name, the entire room went silent, as if someone had hit a mute button.Mike's wineglass wobbled in his hand. "Who did you say you are? Megan Anderson? No way!"He immediately pulled out his phone and opened the video from the group chat. The Megan in the video weighed nearly 220 pounds, and the excess weight distorted her features. The woman standing before him now was slender, with clearly defined collarbones. He looked from the video to me and back again, comparing us over and over. "The eyes really are the same..."A young woman in the corner suddenly spoke in a quiet voice. "She still has that mole beside her nose."That one sentence confirmed my identity beyond any doubt. The expressions on the faces of those who'd laughed the loudest just moments ago were priceless. The guy who'd joked about needing a freight elevator lowered his head and took a drink of water. The one who'd said the elevator would be overloaded suddenly found the tablecloth fasc

The moment I pushed open the door, the laughter stopped abruptly. More than twenty pairs of eyes turned toward me.The male classmate nearest the door stared at me for a few seconds before jumping to his feet. "Hey, beautiful. Who are you looking for?"Another person quickly moved a chair aside. "Did you come to the wrong room? It's fine. Come in and hang out with us."The same people who'd been complaining about not having enough chairs were suddenly falling over themselves to make me feel welcome.Someone even cleared the seat beside Naomi. "Beautiful, sit here."I didn't move. I simply looked toward the center of the room, where two chairs had been pushed together beneath an oversized old school uniform hanging on the wall, with an electronic scale nearby.[Megan's XL Seat.]Someone followed my gaze, and his expression immediately turned awkward. "Uh... It's just a joke between old classmates. The person we're waiting for hasn't arrived yet. Don't get the wrong idea."I almo
