Chapter 2

Author: Mashed Potato Fanatic
The next morning, a flood of messages from the group chat jolted me awake. Someone had turned a screenshot of the betting pool into a meme.

[Megan bet that she can make it through the hotel doors.]

The chat erupted with laughter.

[If she really weighs 300 pounds, does that count as overloading the hotel?]

[Does Grandview have a freight elevator? Better make sure she doesn't bring the regular one down.]

[Matthew, remember to keep your promise. Write your will before you hug her.]

Matthew finally appeared: [Cut it out. I only said I'd give her a polite hug. And my girlfriend will be there too. Megan should know where to draw the line.]

Naomi immediately tagged me: [Meg, don't overthink it. Matthew just feels sorry for you because you used to have a crush on him. He's only trying to make it up to you.]

With a single sentence, she'd dragged my old crush on Matthew back into the open and tossed it to the crowd for everyone to laugh at.

Then she sent a photo.

It showed the school uniform I'd worn in high school. The uniform was so oversized that it looked like a sack, and the same piece of paper was still stuck to the back.

[No Food for Pigs]

An electronic scale sat beside it.

Naomi wrote: [I brought a little piece of our youth too. Meg, why don't you put it on again tonight and let everyone have a look? You can weigh yourself while you're at it and see how much you've gained over the years.]

The chat instantly filled with messages of support. Someone even sent a GIF of a pig stepping onto a scale.

I stared at the uniform as my fingers went cold.

Five years ago, they had forced me to wear it and stand at the front of the classroom.

Naomi had grabbed a megaphone and led the entire class in chanting, "198 pounds! A new record!"

I had run out of the classroom in tears.

Matthew had stuck out his foot and tripped me. Then he had laughed and said, "Slow down. You might bring the whole building down."

And now they wanted me to wear it again.

Naomi called soon after.

"You're really coming?" None of the sweetness she'd used in the group chat remained. Her voice held nothing but undisguised contempt. "Megan, don't say I didn't warn you. Matthew's girlfriend is a dance instructor now. Her waist isn't even as big as your thigh was back then."

I calmly asked, "You prepared that uniform?"

"Of course," she said with a laugh. "We have to give everyone something to enjoy at the reunion. You were so fat back then. Isn't making everyone laugh the only reason anyone was willing to talk to you?"

I laughed too. "Don't worry. I'll definitely be there."

A brief silence followed.

"Fine. Then you'd better wear something loose. If you collapse a chair, you'll have to pay for it."

The call ended. I saved the recording.

Just then, Erin walked in and tossed a black velvet gown into my arms before handing me her tablet.

Starlight Entertainment's announcement page filled the screen.

[Welcome Megan Anderson to Starlight Entertainment.]

The accompanying photo showed me in a couture gown, my features cool and sharp. The announcement was scheduled to go live at exactly 8:00 p.m. tonight.

The class reunion started at 7:30 p.m.

Erin glanced at the photo of the school uniform in the group chat and laughed in disbelief. "They're still waiting to see the 220-pound version of you?"

I turned off my phone and picked up the gown. "Let them wait."

Thirty minutes was more than enough time for them to finish saying every disgusting thing they had to say.

The next day, the bullying video Naomi had reposted shot to the top of the trending searches. But this time, I wasn't the one being publicly condemned. The full video showed Naomi and her friends blocking the bathroom door and forcing me onto the scale. Matthew stood beside them, laughing as he filmed. The other students lined up one after another to sign their names on the piece of paper taped to my back. The comment section was on fire.[This isn't a class reunion. It's a bully convention.][Still using a victim's trauma for entertainment as adults? Some people really never grow up.][The worst one is Matthew. He knew she liked him and deliberately used her feelings to pressure her into losing weight.]…Naomi posted an apology that same night. She said they'd been young back then and hadn't realized how much harm she'd caused. She also claimed she'd been under too much pressure lately and had acted irrationally. The internet wasn't buying it.The livestreaming company she w

When the recording ended, the private room fell so quiet you could hear a pin drop.Naomi stood frozen in place, her face alternating between pale and flushed. "Meg, what do you mean by recording me? Why are you trying to set me up over a few jokes between old classmates?"She was already trying to turn the blame back on me before I could say a word.Alexander frowned. "You call using someone else's pain for entertainment a joke?"Naomi's lips trembled. "Director Coleman, you've misunderstood. Megan and I have always been close. What happened back then was just us fooling around.""Close?" I picked up the old school uniform from the table. "Then put it on."Naomi froze. "What?"I held the uniform out to her. "Put it on and step onto the scale. Then stick this piece of paper on your back and let everyone take pictures of you again. If you honestly think there's nothing wrong with that, I'll admit I was just being too sensitive."Everyone turned to look at her. The classmates who

The moment Dominic finished speaking, the private room fell completely silent.Naomi shot to her feet. "Which Director Coleman?"Dominic glanced at her. "Director Alexander Coleman."The color drained from Naomi's face. Last year, she'd spent seven days waiting outside Alexander's studio just for a chance to meet him, but she hadn't even managed to get his assistant's contact information. Now, he was waiting for me upstairs. She forced a smile. "Meg, you know Director Coleman?"Before I could answer, my phone rang. It was Erin."Meg, we've got eight minutes. Director Coleman said he'd come down to get you himself. He's already in the elevator," she said. The room was so quiet that everyone heard every word.Matthew stared at me in disbelief. "What exactly do you do for work?""I'm an actress.""How is that possible?" Naomi blurted out. "Starlight didn't sign you!"I looked at her. "How would you know?"Caught off guard, she couldn't answer.Someone quietly reminded her, "D

The private room erupted."Matthew, keep your promise! If you can't lift 99 pounds, you really need to hit the gym. Who was it who said he'd end up in the orthopedic ward?"Everyone turned to Matthew. Before, they'd been cheering because they wanted to see him crushed under the weight of the 220-pound me. Now they were cheering because they were jealous that he was the one who got to hold me.Matthew had clearly noticed the difference too. He straightened his collar, a hint of smugness in his eyes. "I made a promise. Of course I'm not backing out."He had barely taken a step toward me when Sarah grabbed his arm. "No."Matthew frowned. "It's just a hug. Didn't you just say you weren't going to be jealous of her?"Sarah's face went pale. "I thought she was still 220 pounds!"The moment the words left her mouth, the entire room fell silent.I laughed. "So when I was 220 pounds, you didn't mind. But now that I'm 99 pounds, suddenly you do?"Sarah was speechless.Matthew shook off

As soon as I announced my name, the entire room went silent, as if someone had hit a mute button.Mike's wineglass wobbled in his hand. "Who did you say you are? Megan Anderson? No way!"He immediately pulled out his phone and opened the video from the group chat. The Megan in the video weighed nearly 220 pounds, and the excess weight distorted her features. The woman standing before him now was slender, with clearly defined collarbones. He looked from the video to me and back again, comparing us over and over. "The eyes really are the same..."A young woman in the corner suddenly spoke in a quiet voice. "She still has that mole beside her nose."That one sentence confirmed my identity beyond any doubt. The expressions on the faces of those who'd laughed the loudest just moments ago were priceless. The guy who'd joked about needing a freight elevator lowered his head and took a drink of water. The one who'd said the elevator would be overloaded suddenly found the tablecloth fasc

The moment I pushed open the door, the laughter stopped abruptly. More than twenty pairs of eyes turned toward me.The male classmate nearest the door stared at me for a few seconds before jumping to his feet. "Hey, beautiful. Who are you looking for?"Another person quickly moved a chair aside. "Did you come to the wrong room? It's fine. Come in and hang out with us."The same people who'd been complaining about not having enough chairs were suddenly falling over themselves to make me feel welcome.Someone even cleared the seat beside Naomi. "Beautiful, sit here."I didn't move. I simply looked toward the center of the room, where two chairs had been pushed together beneath an oversized old school uniform hanging on the wall, with an electronic scale nearby.[Megan's XL Seat.]Someone followed my gaze, and his expression immediately turned awkward. "Uh... It's just a joke between old classmates. The person we're waiting for hasn't arrived yet. Don't get the wrong idea."I almo
