Chapter 380

Author: Summer Blossom
Sean showed Edward his wrist with the full view of the sapphire cufflinks. "What do you think of these?" he asked. "I noticed you glanced at them earlier. They're pretty nice, right?"

Edward had no idea why Sean was showing off now. They were just cufflinks, after all. He wondered if Sean thought that he couldn't afford a pair.

"You're just showing off," he remarked coldly.

"I like them. That's what matters," Sean replied, smiling as though he wasn't bothered by his remark.

Edward continued to press, "You still haven't told me what exactly you did for Macie."

They had reached the elevator, and he knew this was his last chance to get an answer.

One of the Hart Group employees walked forward and pressed the button to keep the doors open, but Sean didn't budge. He stood still without responding to the question and waited for Edward to enter the elevator.

At that instant, the two of them locked eyes.

Edward wasn't about to leave without getting Sean's answer. He pressed the button

Edward, irritated by Nathan's chatter, looked up and snapped, "I got it." Reluctantly, he took a few bites of the oatmeal and swallowed his medication. Nathan then left with the signed documents.Silence settled back over Edward's office, but the brief distraction had shattered his focus. He leaned back in his chair, and his mind drifted once more to that morning's events. Jealousy, anger, frustration, and indignation twisted together in his chest, making it hard for him to breathe. He called the lawyer he had contacted earlier, telling them to prepare to file a lawsuit against Sean and Xavier. He wanted the trial to happen as soon as possible, with all the evidence presented so that they couldn't deny it, no matter how hard they tried.Edward felt a surge of anger as he recalled how he had been blindsided that morning. He thought that Sean was a snake to sign the contract before smugly flaunting the cufflinks Macie had given him.Even though he was still mad, his mind was clearer

At that moment, Nathan was halfway through his lunch when he received a call from Nolan in his office. Nathan listened carefully and answered all of Nolan's questions truthfully. "The gift Adrian brought was quite expensive, and Mr. Fowler did end up smashing it. The assistant who let him up has already been fired. "This also involves a senior executive at the company, and Mr. Fowler has asked me to look into it. I checked earlier; that person was supposed to work in the quality control department but was transferred to marketing instead. I was with Mr. Fowler at Hart Group for a meeting this morning, so I didn't get the chance to stop it in time."Nolan frowned as he listened. It was obvious that Adrian had already paved his way into the company headquarters. There was no need to guess who helped him. It must've been Bennett, who was a manager from one of the smaller subsidiaries under Fowler Group."Have you interacted with him much? What's your impression of him?" Nolan inquired

After hearing Edward's stern and uncompromising order, Nathan nodded in agreement and got ready to investigate. Hank had messed up this time, but they had no idea if it was because Bennett had threatened him or because he wanted to curry favor with Adrian. Those were two very different scenarios."I ordered lunch from The Green Table again, Mr. Fowler. I'll bring it to you once it arrives," Nathan said."I don't want it. You can have mine," Edward responded, flipping open a folder to start his work."But you're still on medication. If you starve yourself—" Nathan started. "I said that I don't want it." Edward's tone turned cold. Nathan immediately fell silent. He nodded respectfully before quietly leaving the room. As Edward's assistant, it was his responsibility to inform Yosef about Edward skipping his meal, especially since the latter had only recently been discharged from the hospital. Instead of passing the message himself, he had one of the bodyguards do it while he went d

Those broken pieces that lay on the floor didn't look like glass. Judging by the color, it looked like a piece of natural blue crystal. It should've been worth a fortune. But after being shattered into pieces, it was nothing more than trash.Nathan frowned at the sight. He was just Edward's assistant. So, even though he'd just witnessed the sorry state of this so-called illegitimate son with his own eyes, he didn't feel any sympathy.Adrian had overstepped from the start. As an illegitimate child, he should have known his place. Why would Edward welcome someone like him?Nathan was about to turn and leave when the person behind him suddenly said, "Mr. Levy… Does my brother really hate me that much?"Adrian's voice was soft as a whisper. It was filled with sadness and humility. Nathan pursed his lips. "Wasn't that obvious?" he thought.Still, no matter how pitiful Adrian looked, his status was higher than Nathan's. And more importantly, Yosef had personally arranged for him to re

Edward had been holding back a storm of rage since his run-in with Sean, with no place to vent it. But now he was forcibly brought back to Fowler Group by his bodyguards. He was like a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any moment. Unfortunately, someone picked the worst time to walk into the lion's den.The elevator doors slid open, and Edward stepped out. His expression was dark and stormy, as if an explosion was just waiting to happen. The air around him was thick with impending violence.Nathan trailed behind him cautiously. He kept a safe distance and didn't dare to get too close."Edward, did you just come back from the contract discussion? Dad reserved a table at a restaurant. He said we—"A voice beside Edward cut through the silence. It was a young man, speaking with politeness and sincerity. Edward's head snapped to the side, and his eyes landed on the face before him. He clenched his fists tightly, and his entire body went rigid with fury.Nathan also turned to

As the CEO of Hart Group, Sean's office was more than just a workplace. He had a private lounge, a rest area, and even a fully equipped gym on the same floor. He got up and typed a reply as he walked. He deliberately changed the subject to avoid putting Macie on the spot any further. At the Brightech Studios' cafeteria, Macie had just finished crafting a balanced reply. She was about to send it when a new message popped up.Sean asked, "Why didn't you buy anything yesterday? Didn't you see anything you liked? Or do you think I can't afford it?"Macie deleted the message she had just finished drafting. At least, this message was easier to respond to.Macie: "I have everything I need. My daily life's pretty well covered. But thank you again for your generosity, Mr. Hart."Macie: "The cufflinks were just a small gesture in return. Your perfume gift was too expensive, and I feel ashamed to accept it."Sean: "If I give you something and you return it with another gift, it's as if I n

Alice suspected that Sean liked Macie. But then again, she really couldn't figure him out. She didn't know why he was so adamant about drawing a line between himself and Macie if he did have feelings for her.Macie had only casually mentioned it to Alice because she was confused. She never expected Alice to go straight to the source. So when Alice sent her a screenshot of the conversation with Sean, she was mortified. She tapped on the image and saw Sean reply that read, "I'm just standing up for her." Macie was still typing, "But he has no reason to do that. We're already…" when a notification suddenly popped up on her screen. It was a message from Sean. He texted, "If you want to ask something, just ask me directly. Why go through Alice?"Macie didn't bother to reply to Alice. Instead, she clicked on his chat. Faced with that blunt question, she felt even more embarrassed. She wanted to explain that she never expected Alice to talk to him.But before she could finish typing, a

There weren't many employees out and about during office hours. The gossip was spread by those executives who had been present at the contract signing earlier that day. Word got to Alice, who was itching with curiosity. She wasted no time and went to the Business Affairs Department to ask for details. When Alice asked them, the manager didn't dare hide anything and spilled all the details. As she listened, she couldn't stop laughing."Good lord! My brother is so wicked. Edward must be fuming right now," she said. As she enjoyed the gossip, the executives couldn't shake their lingering concerns."Do you think this will affect the collaboration between the two companies? After all, the contract was just signed this morning," one of them cautiously inquired.Alice snorted and replied, "If Sean isn't worried, why should you guys be?"The executives felt that she had a point. She continued, "And he waited until after the contract was signed to drop this bomb, so Edward couldn't bac

After hanging up the phone, Edward was still seething with frustration in the lobby of the Hart Group building. Why did Sean have a meeting at this hour? Was he doing this on purpose? With a huff, Edward turned on his heel and headed toward the elevator. Nathan quickly jogged to catch up and stretched out his hand to stop him."Get out of my way!" Edward snapped as he glared at him."Mr. Fowler, this is their turf. Y-You've already yelled earlier…" Nathan stammered."I wasn't yelling at him to his face," Edward growled. Even if he had been, it wouldn't have been enough to calm his anger. He wanted those cufflinks and would take Sean to court for violating his privacy.Nathan saw that Edward wasn't giving up. Since they'd just signed the contract, he quickly signaled to the other senior executives, who quickly caught on. Although they were intimidated, they still stepped forward to try to calm Edward down."Are you all trying to rebel? Are you Fowler Group or Hart Group emplo
