Chapter 552

Author: Summer Blossom
Macie had nothing to do with Sean. Just over an hour ago, he had still been making nasty jokes at her expense.

Sean felt like a jerk. Macie's life was already hard enough. She was divorced, and Edward was still relentlessly harassing her. Yet, Sean had added to her troubles.

He clasped his hands together and pressed his lips into a tight line, his expression tinged with regret and guilt.

On the other end of the call, Alice was checking in with Macie while updating Sean at the same time.

"She didn't call the police. May said that the two companies are in a partnership, and this happened at the office. If it escalated, it would be bad for both sides."

Then she sighed. "May really has it tough. Even when she's the one getting hurt, she still worries about the bigger picture.

"Fortunately, she wasn't injured. It was just the phone that got smashed."

Sean didn't respond. He understood why Macie didn't report it. Brightech Studios was no match for Fowler Group. That reminded him of th

When Nathan stepped forward, he realized that the situation was worse than just unsigned papers. The documents were completely ruined, soaked in black ink. They'd have to be reprinted by the business team and resubmitted for signing. Fortunately, it wasn't an urgent file."Mr. Fowler."Nathan was about to remind him that the ink was about to stain the cuff of his white shirt when Edward spoke at the same time."Macie… has fallen for someone else."Edward's voice was hoarse, thick with sorrow, as if the words themselves were painful to say. His head was lowered, and a heavy cloud of gloom hung over him. He looked utterly consumed by darkness.Nathan looked at Edward, who looked completely defeated. He thought it made perfect sense as Macie and Edward were already divorced. Her falling for someone else wasn't a crime. It was normal.Still, Nathan knew better than to say that out loud. He was here to do his job, and right now, that meant offering a little comfort, whether it was w

Just as Adrian was about to turn away, he glanced over his shoulder one more time. Unfortunately, Macie hadn't looked back even once.He rubbed his chin in thought, wondering if he had lost his charm. But recalling how the other Brightech Studios female employees had reacted when passing by, he figured that his charm hadn't faded one bit.Which could only mean one thing—Macie wasn't easy to win over. Then again, it made sense. Macie had no shortage of suitors—Julian from Brightech Studios, Sean from Hart Group, and a persistently obsessive ex-husband, Edward.A faint smirk tugged at Adrian's lips as one brow lifted ever so slightly. The competition was fierce, but that only made things more interesting. On the way back, Adrian sat in the backseat of his car. A picture popped up on his phone. It was taken at Brightech Studios' cafeteria, along with a couple of short videos. He smirked and typed out instructions. "Have someone post it with a regular user account, then use a marketi

Macie didn't know who the man was. As far as she could remember, he hadn't been present at any of the previous meetings related to this project. He seemed to be a new addition. The meeting lasted for an hour. The general direction was already agreed upon, and the remaining time was spent ironing out the finer details.Macie heard the man across from her ask and answer questions. She thought he seemed quite professional. When he began sharing his thoughts and expectations regarding the overall design, she made a few notes.Toward the front, Palmer glanced at the man sitting at the far end of the Fowler Group's side and instinctively felt that his identity was anything but ordinary. The comments were clearly coming from the marketing department, but their manager hadn't said a single word. It was this man who spoke instead. And though the design portion of the project had nothing to do with him, he brought that up too.Palmer frowned slightly and messaged the other department heads

Macie had a job to do. As the interim leader of Design Team Three, she couldn't let personal matters interfere with her responsibilities."Macie, why don't you skip the meeting? The other two team leads can fill you in afterward," Palmer said as he stepped out of his office. Thinking about who would be at the meeting, he looked at Macie with concern."No need. I know how to keep work and personal matters separate," Macie said calmly.Palmer smiled, clearly pleased. He'd been right about her—she was capable and a talent worth cultivating. As they walked, Palmer hesitated for a moment, then lowered his voice, feeling a little guilty. "About not lending you my phone earlier, I hope you don't take it the wrong way.""Don't say that, Mr. Stellan. I understand your reasoning. Fowler Group has Brightech Studios under its thumb. I'll put up with it as long as I can," Macie responded just as quietly.Palmer was even more reassured. He patted her on the shoulder. "There will come a day whe

"I wasn't angry. I was just busy at the time, and my phone broke, so I couldn't reply," Macie texted Sean.Sean stared at her message. Even though Macie said she wasn't angry, he didn't believe it.How could a phone suddenly break? And it was right around the end of the workday—what could she have been so busy with? Clearly, this was just an excuse."Hey, May replied to me. She said she's not mad and that she'll message you too." Alice's voice came through his earpiece.Sean paused. It seemed like Macie had responded to both of them simultaneously. Perhaps her phone really had been broken after all.He typed out a message asking how it broke. Macie only replied that it had been dropped, causing the screen to shatter.Sean blinked in surprise, a trace of relief flickering across his face. So Macie hadn't really been angry with him after all.Thinking he had upset her and her phone was broken because of that, he decided to make it up to her by buying a new one. He messaged Charl
