Chapter 781

Author: Summer Blossom
Elias suddenly remembered the document he had signed with Macie.

Macie had made it very clear that if Sharon ever targeted her again, Elias was not allowed to cover for her. Due process had to be followed to the letter.

He wasn't sure whether to call Macie perceptive or simply say she'd known all along that Sharon would never let her go.

Elias furrowed his brow. He would have to answer to the Fowler family and Macie. One party was a long-time ally, while the other had just signed an agreement that listed her terms.

He had never been this overwhelmed before.

Personal entanglements were always the hardest to manage. If it were just a business matter, he could have dealt with it decisively.

The next day, Macie went to work as usual.

Due to the accident yesterday, the bodyguards sent by Yosef were no longer operating in the shadows. They now openly protected her.

During work, Macie occasionally glanced at her phone, but there were no messages from Nathan.

For two years, Edward had eaten food like this every day. However, it had now become a luxury—something he could only taste again while lying sick in a hospital bed.The dishes were light and easy to digest. The fish was tender and free of bones, carrying none of the usual fishy taste, only its clean, natural freshness. The broth was clear and flavorful, with a perfect balance of meat and vegetables that preserved the original taste of the ingredients.Edward ate while sniffling. He had no regrets about taking the hit for Macie. At that moment, her cooking felt like an unexpected gift—one that filled him with emotion and joy.The room was silent, and not a single word was spoken.Yosef watched Edward, a grown man, eat and cry simultaneously. It made him feel like his grandson was utterly hopeless. Still, Yosef didn't scold him.A bowl of broth and a few sides were all it took to make Edward cry. Perhaps if Edward had treated Macie kindly from the start, things wouldn't have come

"That's why I said you should've accepted the team lead position from the beginning," Palmer said. "People are naturally afraid of those who are tough and quick to assert themselves. Or at the very least, you should've shown that you weren't someone to mess with."Macie let out a quiet sigh. "I just thought having a good temper as a newcomer would help me blend in faster. I didn't expect that being nice would only invite bullying.""That's the harsh truth of the workplace. The more capable you are, the stronger your personality should be. Only then will people respect you," Palmer said. He continued, "Establishing your persona is important as first impressions matter."Macie listened to Palmer's advice and nodded in agreement. From now on, she wasn't going to be anyone's pushover again."But you still didn't go all the way. If you had, you would've refused mediation and asked for compensation for emotional distress," Palmer added, smiling.Macie said nothing. Showing restraint was

Macie snapped, "My design proposal took an entire month to prepare. I was still working on revisions at home after hours. I went through over a hundred case studies. That's the result of my hard work, yet to you, it's nothing more than something I was handed on a silver platter."You say someone else did it for me? Where's the proof? You've got nothing, yet you speak so freely. I guess slander comes cheap, right?"Although Macie spoke calmly, the anger in her voice was unmistakable. For a moment, no one could refute her."I've said from the beginning that Mr. Atkins and I are just former classmates. As for Mr. Fowler, we're already divorced. I did not use any man to climb my way up."You want to know how I got the elevator pass? When Brightech Studios was first founded, I helped secure its investment. I was granted shareholder status and received dividends. Do you think it's a problem for someone like me to have a private elevator pass?"Next time you want to spread dirty rumors,

"I really don't know the name of the man behind this incident. I didn't think anyone else would go after Macie again. Rico failed last time and ran off," Sharon cried as she spoke. She wasn't exactly lying. She genuinely didn't know who Rico's accomplice was. The SIM card she used to contact Rico had been a separate one. Unless Elias found it himself, he couldn't nail her with hard evidence.Hearing Sharon finally admit fault, Edmund spoke. "We'll take care of everything. For now, just stay in your room and don't cause any more trouble."Sharon nodded quickly, saying that she understood.Edmund turned to leave, but when he opened the door, he saw Mira standing just outside.Elias looked up, surprised, and asked, "Mom, did you hear everything?"Mira turned to look at Sharon. Her face was blank, which was answer enough.Sharon turned back, saw Mira, and began sobbing harder as she apologized. She threw herself into Mira's arms. Mira gently patted her back and sighed.
