Chapter 114

Author: Flower Sock
"You're welcome." Thomas looked at Anathea, then suddenly pointed at her face and chuckled a little.

"Ana, you've got some cream on your face."

"Huh?" Anathea instinctively wiped her face. When did that get there? And how did she not notice?

"It's on the right side," Thomas said, pointing to her right cheek.

She touched that side but didn't feel anything.

"A bit higher. No, higher than that."

When she couldn't find the cream, Thomas unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned toward her, gently reaching out with his left hand to touch her face.

Anathea froze. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught their reflection in the window.

The last light of sunset had faded, and night was falling.

In the reflection, with how Thomas was positioned—and given the angle—they looked as if they were kissing, even though they weren't that close in real life.

As soon as she realized it, she snapped out of it and lifted her hand. Just as she was about to push him away, blinding headlights suddenly came

Gregory glanced at Anathea's pale face. She was clearly in pain, but there wasn't the slightest trace of concern in his expression. He just yanked her along toward the Rolls-Royce.She had no idea what he was planning, and her wrist hurt from how tight his grip was. Struggling, she shouted, "Gregory, let go of me!"Gregory let out a cold laugh. "Why? So you can go back to making out with that cook?""I wasn't!" Her voice shook as she bit her lip, furious and hurt that he'd jump to conclusions like this. "Don't project your dirty thoughts onto me!""I saw it with my own eyes, and you're still trying to deny it?" He grabbed her by the shoulders and slammed her against the car door. Her whole back felt as though it was splitting into two, but the pain in her body was nothing compared to the ache in her heart.Gregory never trusted her.No matter what she said, he only ever believed what he thought he saw. And now, he was throwing disgusting accusations at her like this."Wow, Anat

"Gregory!" Thomas struggled to get out of the car, but Martin had already locked the doors."Mr. Morgenstein, we need to handle the damage assessment first," said Martin in a flat and professional tone."What's there to talk about? Let me out! Don't you see what Gregory's about to do to her?" Thomas roared.Martin didn't even flinch. "They're legally married. Don't you think you're overstepping a bit, Mr. Morgenstein?" he asked, angling his body to block Thomas' view."Damn it!" Thomas slammed his hands against the window, yelling, "Gregory, you bastard! Stop it!"But his angry voice was completely trapped inside the car. No matter how frantic he was, it changed nothing.Meanwhile, in the backseat of the Rolls-Royce, Gregory was relentless. Anathea shrank from the heat of his breath. She turned her head away just as he tried to kiss her, rejecting his touch.Gregory's eyes narrowed dangerously. He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him."You pulled every dirty trick in th

So, this bag was really a gift from Theo.Gregory pressed his tongue to the roof of his mouth. He let out a bitter laugh, his eyes cold as fury seethed within him. His expression was like the calm before the storm.Anathea froze for a second, stunned by the look on his face. Her heart was pounding in her chest. Then, Gregory grabbed her chin, his voice low and sharp. "I really underestimated you. One man's not enough, huh? You've got another on the hook. And you say I'm filthy? What about you?""What are you talking about?" Anathea's face turned as pale as her lips.He sneered. "Oh, please. Don't play dumb."The rage in his eyes was so intense, it was as though it could swallow Anathea whole. "You're sleeping with two guys at once. God, you're worse than a prostitute! How pathetic."Suddenly, Gregory's head snapped to the side, stunning him. Anathea's palm was burning, and her hand couldn't stop shaking. She'd slapped him—what he'd said was unforgivable. However, panic soon h

The noise died down all at once, and the air turned cold and heavy. The night was sharp and silent. Gregory stood under the streetlight, his shadow stretched long across the pavement. The warm glow lit up his face. His features were too perfect to be real, as if they had been carefully sculpted by God.But he looked incredibly icy and unapproachable. Martin looked over at him. Gregory looked tall, composed, and proud. But at the same time, there was also a hint of loneliness about him. Then, Martin glanced at Anathea, still curled up and crying in the back seat of the Rolls-Royce. Whatever had gone down between them clearly hadn't ended on a good note.Still, as Gregory's right-hand man, it was Martin's job to clean up the mess. Stepping toward Gregory, he said cautiously, "Mr. Sinclair, about Mrs. Sinclair…"Gregory didn't respond. He pulled out his phone and made a call.A few minutes later, one of the drivers pulled over in a Bugatti Veyron. He stepped out and handed the key

"Can I go stay with Grandma for a while? She said she misses me." Xander blinked at Anathea. It was normal for Eleanor to miss Xander. Anathea had no real reason to say no. After all, when Xander was born, Eleanor had claimed Anathea was too weak to take care of him and had just taken him away from her. She hadn't been able to stop Eleanor. In truth, Anathea had only seen Xander once at the time—right after she'd given birth to him. After that, she hadn't caught so much as a glimpse. As for Gregory, she hadn't seen him at all since she'd entered the delivery room.During her entire postpartum recovery, aside from the maternity nurse and the occasional visit from Jenny, Hannah was the only one who'd been by her side. No one else had shown up. It was as though she'd been abandoned and forgotten. She hadn't seen Xander again until his one-month celebration party, which Eleanor had thrown.Eleanor had been beaming, cradling Xander like a precious treasure as she basked in all the pr

Jenny was confused when she saw Anathea leaving—and she even had a suitcase with her. "Mrs. Sinclair, it's late. Where are you going?""My mom's having surgery tomorrow. I'm going early to be with her," Anathea said gently."Oh, I see. Well, I hope she gets better soon." Jenny nodded with a smile."Thank you, Jenny. Thanks for taking care of me all these years." Anathea smiled at her sincerely.Jenny looked a bit flustered, unsure why Anathea was suddenly saying that. "That's really just part of my job. There's no need to be so formal, Mrs. Sinclair.""Goodbye," Anathea uttered. Without looking back, she wheeled her suitcase out the door.Goodbye to this place that had held her captive for five long years.Full of determination, Anathea walked into the night.Jenny stood at the doorway and watched her go, blinking a few times. She couldn't shake the feeling that Anathea's goodbye had sounded very final. She shook the thought away quickly. Anathea had a husband and a son she

Theo's eyes flickered for a second. "No one."Gregory had never cared about this kind of thing, so why was he suddenly bringing it up?"Is that so?" Gregory let out a cold laugh and tossed a handkerchief straight at Theo's face.He didn't use that much force, but it landed with enough weight that it felt like a slap."What the hell?" Theo looked at Gregory in disbelief. But when he saw the handkerchief he'd given Anathea, he froze. For a moment, the air between them went dead silent.Theo exhaled and gave up trying to hide it. "Yeah, I gave it to Anathea. But it's not what you think—I just wrecked her old one by accident and wanted to make up for it.""Well, you sure are generous for dropping hundreds of thousands on a bag like that, Mr. Harrington." Gregory's voice dripped with sarcasm. "And she actually accepted it. You really think she's worth that?"Theo frowned. "Oh, come on, Gregory. Don't get all weird and passive-aggressive. She's your wife. What's wrong with her having

"Honestly, that's kind of on me." Adrian sighed. "I took the joke a little too far when I teased Theo. I saw him buy a bag and just assumed it was for someone he was into. But really, there's nothing wrong with buying a bag for your friend's wife, right?"Adrian glanced at Theo as he said it.Theo got the message loud and clear. Adrian was giving him an out, trying to help him draw a line between himself and Anathea in front of Gregory and avoid any unnecessary drama.Even though they both knew the truth that Anathea had already taken Theo's check and was seriously thinking about ending the marriage, neither of them had brought it up with Gregory. After all, they figured Gregory didn't really care that much.If the marriage ended, that was that. There was no need to make things more awkward than they had to."Yeah." Theo exhaled and nodded. "I just felt bad about ruining her bag, that's all. There's no hidden agenda. You know how much I hate giving people any excuse to start rumo

This had been the most relaxing day since Hannah had wrapped up her latest project. But the moment she spotted a black Bentley parked just ahead, her heart, which had finally settled, suddenly shot up into her throat. Her grip on Anathea's arm tightened instinctively."What's wrong?" Anathea stopped and looked at her in confusion."I, uh… just remembered I've got something urgent to take care of." Hannah's tone sounded a little awkward. But Anathea didn't think much of it. Given Hannah's line of work, sudden plans were common. "Okay, go ahead. I'll get the markers for Chloe myself.""Oh, can you also take Chloe home? Don't let her sneak out." Hannah grasped her hand, looking serious. "You know how scary some obsessed fans can be. If they found out I had a daughter…""Don't worry. I understand." Anathea nodded. "I'll take her home and be with her. She'll be safe."The apartment's security was tighter than the hospital's."Thanks, Thea." With that, Hannah turned and walked off. S

Anathea was surprised herself. Before she'd found out about the pregnancy, her morning sickness had been unbearable, but now that she knew, it had gradually faded. And after she'd left Castenea, it had almost disappeared completely. When she was pregnant with Xander, she'd been violently sick. It was so bad that she'd ended up in the hospital multiple times. Toward the end of the pregnancy, it felt like her body was being torn apart by the chaos inside her.So, after seven months of carrying Xander, Anathea had been mostly confined to bed since she couldn't move around much. This baby, however, was far calmer. That was why Anathea guessed that it was a girl.Hannah thought so too because she'd experienced something similar when she'd been pregnant with Chloe."Looks like she's looking out for her mom." Hannah smiled as she glanced at Anathea's belly. After a brief pause, she leaned in closer to Anathea and asked, "She's such a sweet little angel. Are you really going to give he

The air reeked of blood. Gregory's eyes turned red with fury.Pain was the fastest way to awaken a man's buried hunger. And in that moment, it brought every dark instinct inside him roaring back to life."Anathea."Gregory kept saying her name over and over again, grinding it between his teeth. Even though every syllable scraped raw against his heart, his eyes only burned with growing obsession for her."No matter where you run, I'll be right behind you. I swear it, Anathea. You're never getting away from me."…"Ah-choo!"While working on her floral arrangement at Syntherra, Anathea suddenly sneezed and quickly covered her mouth with her hand."What's wrong? Are you catching a cold?" Fiona asked gently while handing her a tissue."I don't think so. Someone's probably missing me," Anathea joked as she took the tissue."Bingo!" A lively girl's voice rang out.Just as Anathea found the voice familiar, the door to the ward swung open.In walked a girl dressed in a cool little

Back then, Gregory stared coldly at Anathea's face and felt that her smile was unbearably grating. Disgust had flashed in his eyes. With a derisive scoff, he spat, "You got what you wanted, Anathea. Are you happy now?"And as he watched the color and smile fade from her face because of his words, a twisted satisfaction washed over him—like some petty revenge had been served.Since he couldn't share her happiness, she would have to bear the brunt of his rage.Only now did Gregory realize how cruel and absurd his actions had been. How could he say those hurtful words, trying to pull an innocent person into the same abyss as him? Now, those very words had come back like a boomerang, plunging straight into his own heart.Gregory clutched his chest. The pain lanced through him so sharply he staggered. His phone crashed to the floor with a heavy thud."Mr. Sinclair!" Martin rushed forward to steady him. His voice was tight with alarm as he asked, "Are you all right? Should I call th

Gregory clenched his jaw tightly.Anathea had really left him.Martin spoke up cautiously, "Mr. Sinclair, the date on the divorce agreement is from a month ago."Gregory's eyes dropped to the bottom of the page.It really was a month ago. Anathea had planned to leave him a whole month ago.At that moment, Gregory stood frozen with his eyes cast down. It was like someone had hammered him to the ground, turning him into a statue. It felt like a claw had ripped straight through his chest. And then came the voice of the one to blame, whispering in his ear, "So, Gregory Sinclair, how does it feel? You've always had someone by your side. Suddenly, it's just you. And from now on, it'll always be just you."A crushing wave of emptiness slammed into him, drowning him instantly.Gregory gripped the divorce agreement so tightly that his fingertips turned white. And even then, he didn't realize that Anathea had left him something far worse than a farewell and divorce agreement. His phon

Martin's voice felt like a dull hum, buzzing in Gregory's mind, almost as if it were going to puncture his skull.Gregory's grip slackened, and the phone slipped from his hand."Mr. Sinclair!" Jenny saw what happened and quickly caught the phone. "What happened?"But Gregory didn't answer. He snatched the phone from her hand and strode straight for the stairs.Cyrus, seeing the urgency in Gregory's movements, was confused. He'd never seen Gregory so frantic, almost as if he were chasing something. In the garage, Dexter had just parked the car when he spotted Gregory walking toward him. Gregory's face was stormy, like a thunderstorm with gale-force winds, as though everything in his path could be torn apart.Gregory was in a foul mood.Dexter immediately felt a chill run down his spine. He stammered to greet Gregory, but before he could even open his mouth, the latter snatched the keys from his hand. Gregory then marched straight to the car and slammed the door shut.Dexter quic

"Speed up," Gregory said suddenly.Dexter flinched in surprise and glanced uneasily at the current speed. It was already close to 60 miles per hour."Speed up!" Gregory ordered again."Yes, sir!" Dexter's heart skipped a beat as he pressed down harder on the gas. What was originally a 30-minute drive was cut down to 15.By the time Dexter finally brought the car to a stop, his facial muscles were twitching, and his right foot wouldn't stop shaking.Cyrus looked surprised when he saw Gregory. "Mr. Sinclair?"Gregory rarely came back this early.Gregory stepped out and slammed the car door shut behind him with a loud bang. His heavy footsteps echoed as he strode into the house."When was the last time Anathea came back here?" he asked."About a week ago. She hasn't returned since the day she left." Cyrus was confused. "Is something wrong?"Something was very wrong. That meant ever since that night Anathea had walked out, she hadn't come back. If it hadn't been for that whole

As Gregory watched Xander's face scrunch up in distress, he was at a loss.Because of his busy work schedule, he rarely had time to spend with Xander. To him, Xander was just someone he was connected to by blood. There wasn't much emotional attachment beyond that.As the CEO of Sinclair Group, Gregory could handle major projects and manage relationships with shareholders and directors with ease, but he had no idea how to handle a crying child. Right now, watching Xander cry so hard, he didn't know what to do.Xander continued sobbing while repeating, "I want Mom! I want Mom! Did I make her angry? Is that why she doesn't want me anymore?"Gregory's head was pounding from the sound of Xander's crying. He glanced at his phone and saw that Anathea still hadn't responded to his message. What was going on with her?A cold anger formed at the edges of Gregory's brow.Could Anathea really be so heartless that she didn't care about Xander at all? If she didn't care about Xander, did that

Gregory's expression darkened in an instant. He quickly stood up and called the family doctor, Mateo Nielsen, to head over to Xander's location. When they arrived at Natalie's house, they found Xander collapsed on the floor. His face was flushed bright red."Xander!" Gregory rushed forward and lifted him into his arms. When he checked Xander's forehead, he found it burning hot.Xander had a fever."Dad…" Xander weakly opened his eyes. His throat felt like it was on fire, and his whole body ached.Usually, when he felt like this, Anathea would be by his side. She would stay up all night to care for him and check his temperature again and again. He suddenly missed her. "Where's Mom? I want… Mom…"Gregory didn't respond. Instead, he handed Xander over to Mateo, who quickly started checking his temperature and running tests."Mr. Xander has been eating too much unhealthy food lately, which caused an infection and triggered this high fever," Mateo explained. He gave Xander an inject
