Zane's POV

When I opened my eyes again, the world was nothing but ruins. The cavern was gone. The walls, the ceiling, everything had turned to dust and smoke. I could still taste the metal in my mouth, the sting of fire in my lungs. The ground was hot beneath me, pulsing faintly with veins of molten light. My body ached everywhere, but it didn’t matter. My first thought was Ember.

She was on her knees a few feet away, her body glowing faintly through the haze. Cracks of gold and red light ran across her skin like veins of living flame. Every time she breathed, smoke curled from her mouth. She wasn’t just alive — she was changing. The fire around her wasn’t pure anymore. It had dark threads weaving through it, black and alive, twisting around her like shadows trying to breathe.

I dragged myself closer, ignoring the blood dripping from my side. “Ember…”

She didn’t answer. Her eyes were open, staring at the remains of what used to be the Witch’s lair. Everything was ash. The air felt he

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    136- Hunt The Heart That Burns

Zane's POV The forest was still burning when I stepped into it. Smoke crawled between the trees like ghosts that refused to die, and the ground hissed under my boots, still red-hot from her fire. Ember’s scent clung to everything — wild, sweet, broken. Every breath I took filled me with her and the thing wearing her skin. The bond under my ribs pulsed faintly, dragging me forward like a leash I couldn’t tear off.I didn’t care where it led. I’d walk through hell itself if it meant finding her.The trees thinned as I moved deeper. Their bark was black, but they whispered when I passed — low, old sounds that made the hairs on my neck rise. My claws itched, my eyes burned gold. Every heartbeat that wasn’t hers felt wrong. I could almost taste her fear under the smoke. My chest ached with it.“Ember…” I muttered, voice rough. The wind answered with ash.I stumbled over a burned log and caught myself on a tree. The world spun for a second — exhaustion clawing at me — but the memory of he

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    135- The Flame That Lied

Zane's POV The world burned red. I woke choking on smoke, my skin searing before my mind even caught up. The bed was gone, replaced by a ring of fire crawling across the floor like living veins. The air crackled with power—bloodfire. My own breath turned to ash. And through it all, she stood in the middle of the blaze, the woman I loved, the one who’d once whispered my name like a prayer.Ember.Her hair was a tangle of flame, eyes split down the middle—one gold, one black. Her voice when she spoke wasn’t hers alone. It was two sounds twisted into one. “You shouldn’t have trusted me.”The words hit harder than the heat. My body reacted before my brain could. I lunged toward her, only for the circle of runes beneath me to flare. The blast threw me back, pain slicing through my ribs. I hit the wall, the world swimming in red light. The air stank of burning wood and blood.“Ember,” I rasped, forcing myself upright. My skin smoked where the runes had burned me. “I know you’re still in th

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    134- Never Trust The Flame

Zane's POV Fire still clung to the ruins like it refused to die. The air shimmered with heat, thick with the taste of smoke and ash. My lungs burned as I stared at her through the blaze. Ember stood in the center of it all—hair tangled, eyes black as ink, her body haloed in firelight. She looked like my mate, but the thing wearing her skin wasn’t her.“You found me, Alpha,” she said, her voice soft and poisonous. “Now tell me — can you kill me?”The sound of her voice cracked something inside me. My claws dug into the dirt, and I forced myself to breathe through the rage and fear. The bond between us was still alive, faint but stubborn, humming under my ribs. It pulsed whenever I looked at her. She was still there. I could feel her buried somewhere under the witch’s shadow.“Not if you’re still inside her,” I said, low, rough. Her lips curved, the kind of smile that made my wolf bare his teeth. “Then you’ll burn with me.”The flames leapt before I could move. I dropped low, the blast

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    133- The Arising Of The Blood Moon

Zane's POV Smoke still clung to my lungs. The ground was scorched black where she’d been—where Ember had burned out of my arms and vanished. I dropped to my knees, hands digging into the ash until my claws split the earth. Her scent was still there, faint and fading—sweet fire, honey, heartbreak. Every breath tasted like her, like smoke and loss. I called her name again and again until my throat bled. Nothing answered. Just the wind and the echo of my own madness. The bond was still there, a thin thread buried deep under my ribs. Faint. Flickering. Mocking. I could feel her heartbeat somewhere far away, weak but alive. That was all it took. I got up. My knees shook, my body half-shifted, but I didn’t care. The forest around me blurred, the world tilting between rage and grief. She was gone, and I would tear the earth apart to bring her back.Kaela’s voice hit me from behind. “Zane, stop! You can’t go after her—she’s not even here anymore!” Her words cracked, full of something I didn’

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    132- Zane's Heartbreak

Ember's POV The forest went silent again. Not the kind of silence that felt peaceful — it was the kind that pressed against your chest until breathing hurt. The flames that had once lit the trees were gone, swallowed by smoke and ash. Zane’s grip on my arm tightened, his thumb dragging slow circles against my skin like he was reminding me to stay here, to stay real. But my body didn’t feel real. The witch’s whisper still echoed through me, like a second heartbeat trying to match mine. The air shifted. The cold crawled down my spine, and my flames flickered inside my eyes — golden bleeding into crimson until everything I saw shimmered red. I could still feel her voice there, like it had wrapped itself around my bones.Zane’s growl was low, rough enough that it vibrated through the air between us. “She’s close,” he said quietly. His gaze swept through the shadows. “She’s not done.”The laugh that answered him was soft and sharp, slicing through the dark like glass. It came from everywh

  • Wild Nights With My Lycan Step-brother    The Witch's Shadow

Ember's POV The air froze the moment that voice came. Every flame around us died, leaving only the faint golden glow in my eyes. The silence that followed was wrong, heavy, like the forest itself was holding its breath. I knew that voice. I’d never forget it.“My flame… you can’t run from what you are.”The witch’s whisper slid through the smoke like cold fingers on my skin. Zane moved in front of me instantly, his body tense, every muscle tight. I felt his pulse through the bond, steady but burning underneath. The ground shuddered, and before I could react, something black and slick pushed through the dirt. Roots—twisting, alive, reeking of rot—wrapped around my ankles. I gasped and tried to pull free, but they tightened, biting into my skin.Zane’s growl vibrated through the air. He slashed at the roots with his blade, the edge blazing gold as it met the darkness. The roots hissed, curling back, smoking where the golden light touched them. My fire flickered, weak for the first time
