"Mrs. Maia jumped off the building!" The maids cried out.

Maia Burgess felt excruciating pain, as if her insides had been torn apart. She saw a woman standing triumphantly at a window—her mother-in-law, Rita!

“Cedric, help…”

Even in such despair, he was the first person who came to her mind.

It was common knowledge that Cedric Larkin had never loved her, and their marriage was purely to forge a business alliance. After her mother’s passing, it became inevitable that Maia would get dumped. That day had finally come.

Only Maia knew she had loved Cedric for an entire decade. However, her unconditional love appeared to be over. Her vision blurred as blood soaked her clothes, and she passed out.

Intense pain jolted Maia awake. She slowly opened her eyes, and a deep voice asked, “You’re awake?”

She froze as she recognized the sultry voice. Her memories flooded back, and she clutched her covers.

Maia used to love Cedric passionately, even if he had always been cold to her. However, after he signed the divorce papers and his mother shoved her out of the window, she knew it was time to move on.

Her one-sided love had cost her dearly, leaving her bitter.

She asked stiffly, “Came to see your ex-wife?”

That upset him. Cedric narrowed his eyes and chuckled. “Was it fun trying to kill yourself?”

“I was pushed out of the window!”

He retorted, “You think I’d believe you?”

A bitter smile spread across her pale face. She reminded herself, ‘Maia, you know he won’t believe anything you say.’

A solitary tear ran down her cheek. Despite the pain, she forced her bloodshot eyes open but could not meet his gaze.

She heard his footsteps as he approached her, and his towering frame blocked the light. Cedric tossed a medical report on the bed.

There was a cruel look on his handsome face. “I guess you had it coming, huh?”

The report read, “Duration of Pregnancy: 56 days. Diagnosis: Complete miscarriage.”

Maia felt a sharp pang of sorrow as she picked up the report with trembling hands. ‘I was pregnant?’

She assumed her late period was due to sleep issues, not because she had been carrying his child for 56 days!

Maia burst into tears, but Cedric stared at her coldly. He seemed to think she was just pretending.

“Maia cut the act. You’re the one who killed the baby!”
