Ashley’s POV

I waited that way for several hours, and during that time all I could think about was Jeff. If these evil people could treat me the way they were doing for a crime I didn’t commit, and one I wasn’t even a hundred percent sure that Jeff committed, then heaven knew what they were doing to him.

Despite my situation, soon hunger pangs began to gnaw at my stomach. I hadn't had anything to eat all day because I was so busy with laundry that I kept postponing having my breakfast.

This meant that the last time I tasted food was sometime around the previous evening, which would make it a day since I last had anything to eat, and now I felt dizzy from hunger.

Unfortunately, nobody came with food, or at least, even water. It was just as if they had forgotten they locked me up in there. My stomach cramped, my head throbbed with a headache, and I called for someone … anyone to come, but no one did.

That first day passed, and still, I was all alone and running out of my mind. Then anot

  • Winning My Angry Ex Back   Accepting the compromise

Ashley’s POVI listened in disbelief as they explained the so-called compromise. There was no way they were serious, and yet, I had no other choice but to accept their terms. After all, I couldn’t very well walk out and leave, could I? One of the men started to explain what they were talking about.“The solution to this unfortunate situation is this. You're going to remain here in place of your boyfriend, you know, just long enough to pacify the family of the dead guy and the bereaved community. I would say your stay should last around six more months, and then you’ll be released. You should take this offer, because if you're counting on your boyfriend to come and pay for his crime so that you’ll be freed, then I’d advise you to stop waiting.”“Jeff obviously doesn’t know I’m here. If he knew, he would have turned himself in to the police. I know he would." I defended Jeff, but my defense sounded weak even to my own ears. The man scoffed and spoke again. “So, where does he think you

  • Winning My Angry Ex Back   A compromise

Ashley’s POVFor a moment, relief washed over me so strongly that I nearly collapsed. Jeff was alive! He had somehow been luckier than I and had managed to get away from these monsters. All this while, I had been tormenting myself with horrible thoughts of what might have happened to him, but he got away. The feeling of relief didn’t last at all. One of the men continued talking in his somber and clinical tone.“The man your boyfriend beat up succumbed to his injuries. He died yesterday morning.” He informed me.The words didn’t make any sense to me at first, because I was still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Jeff was somewhere out there, whole, hale, and hearty.“Died? I don’t understand …” I trailed off, my voice barely audible, as what the man just said slowly began to dawn on me. I immediately began to feel sick. This wasn’t going to be good at all.“You don't understand what it means for someone to die? That man has been in the hospital this whole time, and a lot of

Ashley’s POVA flashy car was idling and waiting for us outside. Even though the man who held my arm was dressed respectably enough, like someone rich, I still did a double-take when I saw the kind of car these people came in.How on earth could ordinary thugs have the money to drive this sleek and expensive-looking car? I hesitated for the fraction of a second, but the man who had his hand on my arm pulled me more insistently towards the car. Some of my neighbors had gathered outside and were now watching the small scene in fascination. I knew that I would be the subject of juicy gossip for the next few days to come.Since I was so embarrassed for the neighbors to see me in this situation, I lowered my head and allowed the man to lead me towards the car.He opened the passenger door for me, like a true gentleman, and I got in and looked around. It was a spacious car, and it smelled really nice.Still, I had a really uneasy feeling about all of this, and I couldn’t wait to sign the un

  • Winning My Angry Ex Back   The last time

Ashley’s POVI couldn't believe my ears. These assholes had abducted Jeff? That means that he didn't even make it to the event.Even if he had beaten up the men, I knew for a fact that they must have provoked him, or started the fight. However, this wasn't the time to start protesting Jeff's innocence.I had no idea what these assholes would do to him, or what they were already doing to him, but I knew for sure that it couldn't be good. The tall man leaned closer, his voice dropping an octave."Do you understand the gravity of the situation now?" He asked me.I nodded frantically. The thought of Jeff suffering was so scary and unacceptable to me. If he had beaten up these people this badly, then I could only imagine what the gang members would do to him in revenge, and it didn't bear thinking about.“Good, so go get the money.” The man continued"I swear, I don't have that kind of money on me. I will ..." I began to say hysterically, but he cut me off smoothly."Well, the hospital bil

  • Winning My Angry Ex Back   The dialogue

Ashley's POVThe lady cleared her throat to speak, and tears filled her eyes. “We were just minding our business when he passed by us. I don’t know him or anything about him, but clearly Justin and Dave knew him, because even though they didn’t say anything to him, he stopped them and called them bloody cowards. Even after that, they still ignored him, but he called them little scared boys who had run back to their mummies with their tails tucked between their legs after he dealt with them.So they became angry and insulted him in return. Then he got mad, hit Dave, and began to beat him up, and of course, Dave tried to defend himself, but he wasn't doing a very good job of it. Justin tried to help him, but it was that man who started the whole thing. I wouldn’t have gotten involved, but he had beaten up Dave very badly, and Dave was now lying on the ground, unable to move. I think he broke his jaw and his nose, and also cracked his ribs.” She paused, shuddering as the tears began to s
