The first week at Wolf Academy taught me something unexpected. People didn't ignore everyone. Only me. Just me. I was beginning to recognize faces around campus. Students greeted one another in the corridors, laughed together between lectures, and argued over assignments as if they had known each other for years. Then I walked by. Conversations didn't stop. They simply... shifted. Enough for me to notice. Not enough for anyone to admit it. By lunchtime, I had almost convinced myself I no longer cared. Almost. I balanced my lunch tray with one hand while searching for another empty table. There were plenty. Just not beside anyone else. I sighed.

"At least I'm consistent."

A laugh reached my ears. Low. Amused.

"Talking to yourself already?"

I turned. A blond man leaned casually against one of the stone columns, a coffee cup resting in his hand. He looked about my age, maybe a little older. Unlike Rafael's quiet confidence, this stranger carried himself like the entire courtyard belonged to him. Black eyes studied me with open curiosity. Not politely. Confidently. As though looking away had never occurred to him.

"You've been watching me," I said.

"I have."

No denial. No embarrassment. Just honesty.

"That's a little creepy."

"So I've been told."

He pushed himself away from the column and walked toward me. Students noticed. Several stepped aside before he reached them. Interesting. Another important student.

"I don't remember inviting you," I said.

"You didn't."

"Then why are you here?"

He smiled.

"I was curious."

"About?"

"The human."

There it was again. The human. Not Violet. Not the new student. Just... the human.

"For your information my name is Violet."

"I know."

"Then use it."

"I'll think about it."

I narrowed my eyes.

"I don't like arrogant people."

His smile widened.

"Good."

That wasn't the reaction I expected.

"Why?"

"They're usually the only ones honest enough to admit what they want."

I folded my arms.

"And what exactly do you want?"

"You."

The answer came so quickly that I almost dropped my tray. He watched my expression with obvious satisfaction. Then he laughed. A genuine laugh.

"You should have seen your face."

I rolled my eyes.

"You're impossible."

"I've heard that too."

"I suppose you collect complaints."

"I collect interesting people."

"And apparently humans."

"Especially humans."

I shook my head.

"I have class."

"So do I."

"Then why aren't you there?"

"Because I'm talking to you."

"That's your choice."

"It is."

I stepped around him. He moved with me. Not blocking my path. Simply matching my pace.

"So," he said, "have you figured out why you're here?"

"No."

"Neither has anyone else."

"That doesn't make me feel better."

"It wasn't supposed to."

I looked sideways at him. For someone who smiled so easily, his eyes were strangely unreadable.

"What are you studying?" he asked.

"Architecture."

"Really?"

"What?"

"I expected something boring."

I stopped walking.

"There she is."

"What?"

"The fire."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"You've been polite since we met."

He tilted his head.

"I wanted to see if you had a temper."

"You deliberately annoyed me?"

"It worked."

I stared at him. Then, despite myself... I laughed. Just once. His smile disappeared. Not because he was upset. Because he looked surprised.

"You have a nice laugh," he said quietly.

The compliment caught me off guard.

"So you're capable of saying something normal."

"I never claimed otherwise."

I shook my head again.

"You still haven't told me your name."

He held my gaze for a moment.

"Matteo."

Somehow... It suited him.

"I'm Violet."

"I know."

"Right."

A bell echoed across the campus. Students immediately began moving toward the lecture halls.

"I really do have class now," I said.

"So do I."

"Then stop following me."

"I wasn't following you."

"No?"

"I was walking in the same direction."

"Convenient."

"I thought so."

I couldn't help smiling.

Barely. But enough for him to notice.

"There it is again," he said.

"What?"

"That smile."

I immediately looked away.

"I don't smile that much."

"You just did."

"I won't make that mistake again."

"You will."

His confidence was almost irritating. Almost. I reached the steps leading toward the academic building.

Before climbing them, I turned back.

"Goodbye, Matteo."

"It won't be."

"What?"

"The last time we meet."

He said it with complete certainty. Not hope. Not arrogance. Certainty. I gave him one final look before disappearing inside. Just before the doors closed behind me, I glanced back. Matteo was still standing exactly where I'd left him. He wasn't smiling anymore. He wasn't talking. He was simply... watching me. Then, for the briefest moment, something changed. His jaw tightened. His shoulders became rigid. He lifted a hand and pressed it against his chest, as if something beneath his ribs had caught him off guard. It almost looked as though he were listening to someone I couldn't hear. Then he blinked. The smile returned. I frowned. Maybe this academy was even stranger than I thought.

“Put that book back.”I nearly dropped it. I turned so quickly that the edge of the shelf dug into my shoulder. Isara stood behind me with her arms crossed. Her expression was unreadable.“I wasn’t stealing it.”One of her eyebrows lifted.“You were holding it behind a bookshelf.”“I found it behind a bookshelf.”“That is not the same thing?”“It feels very different from my side.”Her gaze dropped to the book in my hands. Then to the amulet resting against my chest. For the first time since I had met her, Isara looked genuinely unsettled. Only for a second. Then the expression vanished.“Give it to me.”I hesitated.“Why?”“Violet.”That was enough. I handed it over. Isara held the silver book carefully, almost reverently.“Some books are hidden for a reason.”“Then whoever hid this one did a terrible job.”She gave me a long look. I pointed toward the cover.“It has the same symbol as my amulet.”“I can see that.”“So what does it mean?”Silence. Of course. I was beginning to think

The message arrived during breakfast.Principal Luca would like to see you in his office at nine. That was it. No explanation. I stared at my phone. Anna noticed immediately."What's wrong?""Luca wants to see me."Her eyebrows rose."Oh.""Why does everyone say oh like that?"She laughed. "Did you do something?""I entered his forbidden garden, walked through two Alpha auras, and stole papers from two angry Alphas.""When you put it like that...""Not helping."At exactly nine, I knocked on Luca's door."Come in."He sat behind his desk, looking annoyingly calm."You wanted to see me?""I did. Sit."I obeyed."Am I in trouble?""No.""That's exactly what people say before explaining why you're in trouble."Amusement appeared in his eyes."You're not in trouble, Violet.""Not even for the garden?""No.""The courtyard?""No."I relaxed."Amazing. I'm doing better than I thought."Luca closed the folder in front of him."The academy library needs another student assistant.""Okay.""I'

Something had changed in architecture class. For the first time since arriving at Wolf Academy, I noticed it before I even sat down. People were looking at me. That wasn't new. What was new was that some of them actually smiled. A girl from the row behind me lifted her hand in greeting. Another student moved his bag without hesitation when I passed his table. Apparently, designing one decent building was enough to upgrade me from mysterious human nobody wanted near themto mysterious human who might actually be useful.Progress, I supposed. I placed my drawing tube on the table and sat beside Rafael."Morning."He looked up from his notes. His white shirt was rolled to his forearms again, and a few strands of dark hair had fallen over his forehead. His golden eyes moved over my face for a second."You slept."I stared at him."Is that a question?""An observation.""Then you're wrong."The corner of his mouth lifted."You look better than yesterday.""That's a very polite way of saying

I hadn't slept much.Every time I closed my eyes, I found myself standing in the white forest again. The silver wolf. That single word.Run.By the time I reached the architecture studio, I had convinced myself it had only been a dream. Nothing more."Morning."Anna smiled as she slipped into the seat beside me."You look exhausted.""I didn't sleep well.""Wolf Academy nightmares already?""If I tell you about it, you'll probably think I'm crazy."She laughed."Give it a week. Everyone here is a little crazy."Professor Aldren entered the classroom precisely as the bell rang. Conversations faded instantly. He placed a thick folder on his desk before looking around the room."Today," he began, "your real work starts."The room grew noticeably quieter."The previous assignments were only to evaluate your individual skills."He paused."This project will determine thirty percent of your final grade."Several students exchanged nervous glances. Professor Aldren opened the folder and pro

The dormitory was unusually quiet. For the first time since arriving at Wolf Academy, I found myself looking forward to the silence. Anna was already asleep in the bed across the room, one arm hanging over the edge of her mattress, a book lying open on the blanket beside her. She had insisted she wasn't tired less than ten minutes ago. She hadn't even made it through a single chapter. A faint smile crossed my face."I wish I could fall asleep that fast."She mumbled something I couldn't understand i in her sleep and rolled onto her side. Lucky her. I changed into an oversized T-shirt, brushed my hair, and climbed into bed. The room was dark except for the moonlight spilling through the window. I stared at the ceiling. Sleep refused to come. My mind replayed the last few days over and over again. The acceptance letter. Principal Luca. The strange way every student looked at me. Rafael. Matteo. The courtyard. The Alpha auras. Everyone dropping to their knees...except me. I frowned."Wha

I had expected Rafael to mention what happened in the courtyard. He did not. The next afternoon, we sat across from each other in the architecture studio with our drawings spread between us. Sunlight fell through the tall windows, warming the wooden table and catching in Rafael’s golden eyes whenever he lifted his head. Neither of us mentioned the students who had fallen to their knees. Or the wolves that had tucked their tails. Or the fact that I had apparently walked through something called an Alpha aura without noticing. Rafael focused on the project as though nothing unusual had happened. I tried to do the same.“The entrance needs to feel welcoming,” I said, adjusting the tracing paper. “Not like visitors are walking into a fortress.”“It is meant to represent the four clans.”“That doesn’t mean it has to threaten everyone who approaches it.”One corner of his mouth lifted.“You don’t like threatening buildings?”“I don’t like buildings that need to prove how powerful they are.”
