Chapter Twenty-Three

I awoke to my mother’s frantic shaking of my body.  “Missy, Missy, wake up.”

It took a few moments for me to shed the sleep that had consumed me enough to realize what was happening.

“Mom?” I said with surprise as I sat up.

“Shhh, honey. We have to be as quiet as possible.  They’re right outside and their hearing is acute right now.”

“What’s going on?” I whispered as softly as I could.

“Michael is outside and he’s searching for a way into the house,” she whispered with urgency as she pulled me by the arm into a sit up position. “Get up.  We have to get moving before he finds a way in.”

“Godwin spelled the place.  It’s like Fort Knox,” I whispered with confidence.

“Really?  Then, how do you explain the fact that I’m here?”
