Chapter Twenty-Six

I was lying on a plush, king sized mattress in a strange room when my eyes finally opened and the world reappeared.

“Where am I?” I mumbled as I rubbed the sleep from them.

“You’re in one of my guest rooms,” Kenton said as he walked to the side of the bed. “How do you feel?”

“Confused and pissed off,” I grumbled.

“As well you should be,” Kenton said, reassuringly.

“Where is everyone?” I asked.

“Your mother and Godwin are conversing with the conclave.  Do you want me to send for them?”

I grabbed his wrist to hold him in place. “No, not yet.  I want to talk to you for a minute.”

He sat on the edge of the bed and brushed a stray hair from my temple.  “What would you like to talk about, my love?”

I repressed the fluttering response my body had when he called me his love and focused on the question
