Four years after Hale's trial, Connor and Elena start school.

Not a supernatural-only school—those exist, but Dante and Sera refused to send their children there. "We fought for integration. Our cubs will experience it."

So Connor and Elena attend the local elementary school, one that's forty percent supernatural, sixty percent human. Their classmates include wolf pups, vampire children (who attend night sessions), witch kids, and regular humans.

It's chaotic, sometimes tense, but it works.

Connor thrives academically, his wolf-enhanced memory helping him excel. Elena struggles more with sitting still, but dominates in art and music.

"They're normal kids," Sera tells Dante after the first parent-teacher conference. "As normal as any supernatural children can be."

"That's what we wanted. Normal. Despite everything."

But normal is relative. Connor and Elena are still alpha heirs, still stronger and faster than their classmates. And some human parents are uncomfortable.

Elder Thorne circles Hope like a predator assessing prey. The six other Council members—Elders Blackwood, Ravencroft, Stoneheart, Ashford, Winterborn, and Nightwhisper—sit in a semicircle behind him, silent and judging."You're fourteen years old," Thorne begins. "You've been alpha for barely a year. You suffered a catastrophic psychic breakdown three months ago. And now, under your leadership, a demon summoning is being orchestrated on your territory.""The summoning isn't happening because of my leadership—""Isn't it?" Thorne's voice cuts like a whip. "A strong alpha maintains control of their territory. Prevents threats before they materialize. Your youth and inexperience have created a vulnerability that our enemies are exploiting."Hope forces herself to breathe slowly, to think before reacting. Thorne is baiting her, trying to provoke an emotional response that will prove his point about her immaturity."With respect, Elder Thorne, the first three murders occurred on neutral te

Hope's war room is cramped with too many alphas and too much tension.Connor stands at the head of the table, displaying crime scene photos that make even seasoned warriors flinch. Dante sits to his right, arms crossed, face carved from stone. Amara examines tissue samples under a portable microscope. And Sera positions herself as far from Dante as physically possible while remaining in the room."Four victims," Connor summarizes. "All killed within a fifty-mile radius of Crimson Hollow territory. All are traveling to the Autumn Gathering. All drained of blood and marked with summoning circles.""Five victims," Hope corrects quietly. She's standing rather than sitting, too wired to rest. "You're forgetting the rogues that attacked Alpha Nightshade. If they were compelled through blood magic, their deaths count too.""Good catch," Connor adds notes to his tablet. "Five confirmed kills. Possibly more we haven't discovered yet.""The summoning circles are ancient," Amara reports without

Hope stands at the edge of the ceremonial grounds, watching preparations for the Autumn Gathering with a knot of anxiety in her stomach. Three months since her collapse. Three months of learning to lead without her gift. Three months of feeling like she's pretending to be an alpha."The territory markers are secure," Marcus reports, clipboard in hand. "All visiting packs have confirmed arrival times. We're expecting seventeen alphas, their immediate families, and honor guards.""That's over two hundred wolves." Hope calculates quickly. "Housing arrangements?""Handled. The Bennett pack is in the east cabins, Nightshade in the west wing of the main house, smaller packs scattered throughout—""Wait." Hope holds up a hand. "Nightshade Pack? As in Dante Nightshade?"Marcus nods. "Alpha Dante confirmed three days ago. Is that a problem?"Is it a problem that my grandmother's ex-mate—the man who broke her heart five years ago—is coming to our territory for the first time since their separat

Hope Silverclaw collapses on a Tuesday afternoon while mediating her seventh pack conflict in six weeks. She's in Montana, helping Alpha Michaels and his beta resolve a power struggle that's been tearing their pack apart for months. The session started well—both parties open to compromise, willing to try consciousness merging to truly understand each other's perspectives.Hope links their minds carefully, having done this hundreds of times before. She feels Michael's fear of losing control, his desperation to protect pack traditions. She feels the beta's frustration with stagnation, her vision for progress. Then she feels something else. Something wrong. The consciousness merge isn't separating cleanly. Fragments of Michaels and his beta are staying in Hope's mind. Not just understanding their perspectives—actually becoming them. Their memories bleeding into hers, their emotions overwhelming her own. She's merged with over three hundred individuals in the past eighteen months. Every s

Aria Chen's first month as Secretary-General tests everyone's faith in Elena's decision. The crisis begins on a Monday morning when Master Cassius of the New York vampire coven makes a very public declaration. He's old—over six hundred years—and commands respect across the vampire community. His words carry weight."We've existed for millennia," Cassius tells a gathered press conference, vampire representatives from a dozen courts standing behind him. "We've survived crusades, inquisitions, and Order purges. We don't bow to creatures who've been hiding in caves while we built civilizations."The insult is deliberate. Dragons emerged from hiding only three years ago. Vampires see them as newcomers, upstarts, unworthy of political authority.Aria's response is measured. She doesn't rage, doesn't threaten. She simply states facts."Master Cassius is certainly entitled to his opinion. The Council respects free speech and welcomes diverse perspectives. Integration thrives on honest dialogu

Elena discovers a plot to remove her from the Secretary-General position. It's not a vote of no confidence this time. Too obvious, too easy to defend against. Instead, it's structural—a proposed amendment to the Council charter that would term-limit the Secretary-General to five years maximum.Elena has served seven."It's specifically designed to remove you," Kieran says, reviewing the proposal. "They're not even pretending otherwise. The amendment would take effect immediately, requiring new elections within sixty days.""Who's behind it?""Dragon-aligned Council members, Preservationist sympathizers, and some vampires who think you've been too accommodating to wolves. Strange bedfellows united by dislike of your leadership."Elena should have seen this coming. She's made too many enemies, pushed too hard for integration, and challenged too many power structures. Her opponents finally found common ground in wanting her gone."Can we block the amendment?""Not without majority suppor
