“There’s no physical problem with your ward’s eyes.” The doctor informed us of the results. “It’s just red; the results from the other tests will be out by next week.”

Ben and I glimpsed at each other, then focused on the doctor.

“Why do you think his eyes are red?” Ben asked.

The doctor exhaled and focused on me.

“In my ten years of experience with eyes, situations I’ve seen red eyes are always alphas. Children at puberty that presented and unstable or adults traumatised or suffering uncontrollable emotions towards actions affecting their partners. This is the first case I’ve seen a child presenting before puberty and sharing vitals of a stable alpha hormone. It’s never been heard, but this is all a guess.”

“If it’s stable, will his gender won’t change?” I asked.

“I doubt a gender reassignment will work on him like it wouldn’t work on any dominant of the genders.”

Discussing with Dr. Steve was helpful, but we weren’t out of the clear. The fate of our son depended on those test result
