Niko’s cries from the baby monitor woke me up, and I set in on silent so Azrael wouldn’t wake. I smiled as he slept softly, hands wrapped around his pillow.

Last night was amazing and the things he could do with his mouth; I understood why the women never left.

I got up and wore his shirt tossed on the ground, then headed for my son’s room. He was awake, crying on top of his lungs and stopped.

He stared.

A long pause and cried.

“Okay, okay.” I said and carried him out of the crib. “You hungry little bud?”

I pulled out a bottle stored in a warmer inside the room full of breast milk and sat on the rocking chair. He closed his mouth and latched his tiny mouth, drinking until the bottle was empty before I burped him. I gave him a little water and dropped him in the crib so I could start the baby’s morning routine.

This was going to be an everyday routine.

It took me an hour to get everything ready before I could start making breakfast. Niko was in the cot where I could monitor him.
