"I have to submit this letter today but I need your signature first." She told him, not interested in whatever he was busy with.
"Which letter?" He questioned, wriggling his eyebrows in confusion, he didn't remember telling her to prepare a letter for anything.
"My resignation letter." She retorted, she loathed standing there in his office and exchanging words with him, he was a boring human and she was a loud one.
They always contradicted each other just like fire and water."You want to resign?" He asked shockingly, the news was new to him and he wondered what was wrong.
"Yes, I want to." She said not sparing him a glance.
"Why?" He asked calmly, starting intently at her.
"I'm tired of working here, you do not appreciate the things I do and you complain too much about me. I can't deal anymore." She was really tired of his complaints, she looked away from and her face turned into a frown.
"Wow!" Was all he muttered.
"So, please sign." She urged him to but he ignored her and turned back to face the computer in front of him. "When you're done, you can shut the door behind you." He said and started typing.
"But sir..."
"What else do you want?" He asked angrily, he hated that she always riled him, he tried to act patient around her but she always fuel the impending fire making it burn fiercely.
He hated losing his patience.
"I need you to sign this." She stretched the paper forward, he took it from her and squeezed it, he tore it into shreds and threw the pieces around the office. He was annoyed. "But you can't just tear that." She half yelled angrily.
"When you have a better reason to resign, you can come for my signature. Prepare the file of Josiah's company and look into my schedule for today, you can leave now." He ordered and she just stood there staring at him like he was a zombie, she hated his guts. "And don't forget to call in the cleaner to come pack this mess or you could do that yourself if you so wish.
He was rude.
"You are just rude." She stormed out of his office slamming the door behind her, she knew she couldn't call Esther she already advised her not to resign.
Who else can she turn to?
She needs to prepare the file he demanded for,
To hell with him and the file. She stood up and paced round the room, she was thwarted and mad, She had no friend in the office, she didn't bother to form a rapport with her coworkers.
She hated the stares they gave her whenever she walked into the office every morning, they always discriminated her with their eyes and she wasn't comfortable with their attitudes so she just stayed in her space.
Her only friend was Mrs Hadiza and she wasn't around.
Okay, she had to just prepare the files since he won't sign her letter.
'Or should I just sue him?' The thought crossed her mind, 'Where would I even get the money to do that, he would win in court if I try anyway." She sat back still deep in thoughts, she picked a file from inside the cabinet and flipped through it.
"What exactly did he do?" She asked herself.
"Okay, I just don't like him!" She banged the table so hard that Roshan could hear the sound it made.He rushed out to find out what was going on.
"What happening here?" He asked Ben.
"Nothing." She ignored him and focused on the files on the desk.
He went back to his office, he knew he was in for more dramas by Ben.
"Done." She smiled and stood up to submit the files when someone stopped her.
"Hey." She looked towards his direction and her eyes met with the most handsome face she'd ever seen, maybe Roshan was cuter though. She had never imagined his features.
But the man in front of her was the perfect definition of a cute guy, he was tall and slim, he had a chiseled chin and a perfect body build, he was fair too just like her."Hey." She smiled lovingly at him, she was attracted to cute guys and the one standing in front of her was more than cute. She brought herself back to composure when she noticed he was staring at her strangely.
He wore a red kaftan and a pair of black sandals, one could easily tell he was a muslim from the way he was dressed.
"Roshan in?" The sound of his baritone voice melted every soft parts of her body, he had same accent with Roshan. It was obvious they didn't grow up in Nigeria.
"Yes, he's in." She nodded her head. "Are you here to see him?" She asked politely. "You may have a seat." She hit her head internally for letting such a cute guy stand.
"OK, can you let him know Jamil is here to see him? Are you new here? Never seen you around." He checked her out.
"Yeah, I'm his new secretary." she responded and he smiled at her.
"You look cute by the way." He complimented and she smiled, the cute guy was complimenting her.
"You are cute as well." She said and he grinned, revealing a set of white teeth that was impeccable.
"Thank you, thank you." He smiled at her.
"Are you his friend?" She asked to be sure of what to tell him.
"Sure, just tell him Jamil is here, I would have gone in directly but I had to seek your permission first cos you're new here and I didn't want to act rude." He explained to her and she just nodded her head in response.
"Thanks for the courtesy, I was about leaving for his office before you came in. So kindly wait while I go in there and inform him you're here to see him." She said and she smiled, he loved her spirit already.
"Sure." He nodded and occupied himself with reading of one of the newspapers on Ben's desk.
"Be right back." She picked the files up and walked towards Roshan's office, she knocked two times before she got the permission to come in.
"I brought the files." She dropped them on the table and turned to leave. "You have a visitor, Jamil by name." She told him and walked towards the door.
"Let him in." He said when she was almost out of the office.
Ben slammed the door and walked out.
"Welcome back." Jamil said.
"Oh thank you." She giggled. "He said you can come in." She told him.
"See you later." He waved her and left for Roshan's. "Salam alaikum." He greeted as he entered.
"Walaikum salam." Roshan beamed with smiles, "Ba ku ce min za ku zo ba (You didn't tell me you were coming.)" He was surprised to see Jamil all of a sudden. Been months since they saw each other last.
"I didn't plan on coming here too, I came to get something in this area and I decided to branch here. Yaya kuka kasance? (How have you been?)" He asked.
"Alhamdulillah, you?" Roshan asked.
"Alhamdulillah." Jamil smiled, can we go for lunch?" He asked knowing Roshan hadn't had lunch yet. He was always forced to eat.
"Jamil, I have to finish up with this file my secretary just gave to me. I have a negotiation with the company tomorrow and I haven't gone through their details yet." He picked a pen and starred something down on the paper.
"Common get up man, we're heading out now I didn't eat earlier cos of you. For crying out loud, you are a CEO and you still give yourself so much work, you have numerous workers working for you but it looks as if you do all the work here." Jamil said moving closer to drag Roshan up. "Will you get up or you want me to drag you up?" He asked jokingly ready to take action anytime.
"Ya Jamil," Roshan grimaced. "Let me finish up with this and I'll join you to eat." I promise.
"Wallah?" Jamil asked, he knew Roshan so well. Working till tired was a hobby to him, a hobby that still amazes Jamil.
"Wallah." He said, smiling sheepishly.
"Your new secretary, she's beautiful." Jamil sat back and rocked the chair back and forth, Roshan raised his head up and gave him a skeptical look.
"Ba musulma bace (She's not a Muslim.)" He told his friend who was busy checking something on his phone.
"Roshan, what exactly are you thinking?" He dropped his phone on the table and folded his arms together, he faced Roshan and a sheepish smile was displayed on his face.
"I just said she's beautiful, nothing more." He shook his head."Jamil, let me concentrate on this file please." He laughed and continued with what he was doing.
Jamil went back to his phone. Soon, he was done and they left the office together.
They got to Ben's office, Jamil had a small chat with her while Roshan just waited patiently for them. When they were done, Jamil walked up to where Roshan was standing and nudged him to move towards the elevator.
He nodded his head and moved, Ben didn't give him details of his schedule for that day and he didn't bothered to ask her again. He let her be, he was tired of complaining everyday.
He knew whatever that was scheduled for that day wasn't important so he just let it slide.
"Why didn't you speak with your secretary?" Jamil asked, he noticed the hostility between them and he pitied the young lady. He knew Roshan well, he was a strict young man that communicated less.
He knew he already started acting cold towards her."What's there to talk about with her?" Roshan got out of the elevator and walked towards the entrance of the building.
"Roshan, hope you're not acting cold towards her? Cos I know you too well." Jamil followed him outside.
"I don't know too." They entered Jamil's car, he started the engine and waited for the gate to be opened too.
"She's a nice girl and she deserves to be treated better." Jamil said as he started the car and reversed the car backwards to enable him drive out of the compound.
"Don't judge a book by its cover." Roshan retorted. If only Jamil knew how adamant she was he wouldn't have called her nice.
"Really?" He asked.
Roshan nodded when his friend looked at him.
"Right then." He hit the busy road and joined the many cars that sped on and off the streets of Sarkin Yaki.
Roshan's mind drifted to what Jamil said about Ben being beautiful and he lets out a small smile. 'Was she really beautiful? She always wore a frown for him to even notice that about her.' He focused on the road and diverted his thoughts to the upcoming meetings he had the next day.

Two months later, "My best! I can't believe you're getting married today." Esther kissed Ben and sat close to her, her baby was with David. "I don't believe it either, but it's happening." Ben sighed, she touched her head and the crown stood firmly on her head. "Are you done?" She asked the make-up artist. "Just the final touchings, and it's over." She responded to Ben. "Alright. I'm so nervous, I have seen you and Annie get married, I saw how nervous you both were on your wedding day, now is my turn." She laughed. "I can't wait to see Roshan, have you seen him, what does he look like?" She was eager. "Common, you will see him very soon. And Annie, where is she?" Esther noticed she wasn't around.
Two weeks later,After Roshan ignored Ben for almost a week, she was able to explain things to him, and they made up.Daniel apologised to Ben and promised to let go of her, everyone was on good terms again.Ben was discussing with Samiat about her school when Roshan's call came in, he asked her to meet him somewhere. She told Samiat and hurried to dress up. When she was done, she left the house and went to meet Roshan. She got to the restaurant, and he was already waiting for her. Ben beamed with a smile when she saw Roshan where he was seated, staring at his watch —he must be checking the time to see if she was late."Hey," she kissed his cheeks and sat close to him.
Ben was working on the file on her table, her full attention directed to it, she was trying to get the main point of rejecting the proposal Roshan sent out to Johreeb company. It was well written with reasonable points, what else did they need? She kept the file and took something else to work on."Ben?" She heard her name and looked up, she scoffed and went back to what she was doing, she didn't want to speak to him."You don't want to talk to me right?" He drew out the chair and sat on it."I haven't given you the permission to sit down." She stared at him with a bloodshot red eyes."I can sit right?" He grinned at her. "Why didn't you pick up your calls?" He asked her but she pretended not to hear him talking to you."And I choose not to answer, what the hell do you want from me Daniel?" She banged the table and yell on top of her voice. "What do you want?" She glared at him."You don't have to do that." He felt embarrassed.
Samiat entered into the house with ecstasy written all over her face —something good must have happened to her, no doubts."Welcome aunty." She hollered, finding it hard to contain the joy she felt inside of her."Welcome dear, how're you? I got back from work and didn't meet you at home, where have you been?" She asked her."Been at the cafe, was trying to load my information and the network was really bad." That smile was still visible on her face."So, were you able to do it?" Ben sat up."Yes and I just can't thank you enough for the support. I checked my admission status and I..." She stopped and tears flowed down her cheeks."It's okay if you don't get what you want, we are here..." Ben stood up to console her."I got it aunty! I got it! I got the admission to study law in the university. Oh my! I can't believe this." She went down very weak and wept. She had never had any intention to study law but the circumstances that
Six months later."Oh my God, this movie is so great." Ben hollered as they walked into the cinema, it was a new movie by one of her favorite actors and she just couldn't to see it with Roshan. "You saw the trailer right? It was so mad that I promise to see it as soon as it comes out. Thanks for coming here with me." She intertwined their fingers and led him on. She took a seat at the middle roll and beamed with satisfaction. They waited for the movie to start."I'm so excited about this." Ben said to Roshan. "You know my favorite Nigerian actress is the main character and she's just so good." She told him and he nodded his head. "Don't you like her?" Ben asked him."I don't even know who you are talking about." He shook his head and stared at her."To think that I hardly sit down and see a moviw, you've influenced me so much and I just can't imagine how much." He told her and she smi
The building was gigantic and all painted white. Ademide had been in there two days ago —a day after the day they arrived in China. The day scheduled for her surgery was the next day, Ben and her grandmother were outside the hospital, checking out the tall buildings as Ben had begged her to stay that she wanted to take pictures of them.Ademide's grandmother clutched her bag to her chest and stared around in wonder, she had never seen such a high building in her life. When Ben was done taking the pictures, she went to the old woman."I'm sorry for keeping you waiting but I had to do that for documentary purposes." She smiled at her."It's fine, do you still remember the way to the doctor's office? I don't think I do." She asked Ben."Sure." They entered the building and walked in slowly. It was different, few white patients were seated at reception, they were young doctors around att
