1. WILL I SURVIVE?

Ben unplugged her earphones to listen to what the driver was saying when he stopped driving, it annoyed her when she found out he was communicating in Hausa language, she raised a finger to interrupt the conversation.

"Abeg mena speak pidgin at least." She told him.

"I talk say make you buy wetin you wan buy now before we continue the journey." He told her rudely.

"I'm not buying anything." She frowned and plugged in back her earphones. She disliked everyone seated with her on the bus.

"Hi lady, you so pretty. Where you live?" The man that sat next to her asked. She didn't hear him so he tapped her lightly and when she removed the earphones he asked same question. She looked at him, he was already riling her.

"Wetin concern you?" She asked angrily.

"I like you, you so beautiful can you gif me ya number?" He grinned revealing a yellowish brown set of teeth, it was almost stinking Ben pulled away before scrunching her nose in disgust.

'Oh no! Who's this lame man?' Ben looked at him irritatingly.

"You get wife for house?" She asked.

"I get five wives for house." He replied.

"Oh I see." She looked at him terribly and warned him to stay away from her, next time he tried to touch her she gave him  a warning glare and he stayed off. Lame old fool

The bus arrived at Kano State in the late hours of the night, she decided to lodge in one of the guest house just behind the park. Being a stranger in a strange land wasn't friendly at all, She felt nostalgia already.

She got to the guest house and almost puked at the sight of the building that stood in front of her the rusted banner placed outside read "Musa Resting Place" it was really barbaric. The old building was illuminated by dirty yellow bulbs, can they do better? Ben was furious at the sight of the building, she didn't attempt to enter inside she wanted to walk down the street and find better options but she wasn't familiar with this place yet. Half bread was better than none in this situation, she hauled her bags into the reception and on the counter stood a man in his fifties. He Smiled when Ben approached him.

"Good evening sir." She greeted him.

"Efning." What? Ben was lost what did he just say?

"I greeted you" she told him.

"I greet you too." He smiled again.

"Ooh." Ben remembered the accent, the northerners have a different accent.

She told him she needed a room to spend the night, he excused himself and quickly checked on the rooms that weren't occupied he came back and handed Ben keys to one of the empty rooms the metal keys were half rusted and it irritated her, she had no choice he directed her to a room by the left after the reception.

"I will survive." She muttered on her way to the room she booked, "Will I really survive?" She asked herself.

She was used to saying she would survive but this was a different situation. "I hope so." She said with the hope left in her.

She stopped in front of the room and unlocked the door with the keys, she entered into a very clean room she had never expected the room to be clean she expected it to be the same as the building but it was the total opposite. She sighed and rested her bags on the wall.

She unbuckled her sandals and undressed she tied a towel around her body and ambled into the bathroom. The bedroom was small but there was a little space for a bathroom and toilet.

She had a quick bath and rushed back into the room.

She got hold of one her bags and tossed all of her clothes on the bed, she was too tired to arrange them back. She picked her pajamas and set the other clothes on the left side of the bed, she would arrange them the next day.

She changed into her pajamas and quickly ate from the bread she brought from home, being a hectic day for Ben. She had to sleep early she was about to switch her phone off when her Best friend's call came in.

She picked up and yawned heavily.

"Hey bes," she said tiredly.

"Ben!" Esther yelled. "I was worried! You weren't picking your calls."

"I'm sorry." Ben apologized weakly.

"Did you get to kano Safely?" She asked.

"Yes, I'm in One Musa Resting Place guest house." She told Esther yawning heavily again.

"Thank God, I was worried. I called you severally."

"Like how many times?"

"Check your call logs nah."

"Can't see any." She checked and there was 37 missed calls from Esther. 10 from her mom and 5 from her dad. She smiled, they must have been so worried she'd call them the next day.

"Liar! So are you okay?" Esther asked concern evident in her voice.

"I don't know Esther, I'm just here." She said without emotions, she wasn't sure if she'd be fine. She knew it, so she just had to be open to her best friend. She knew Esther would soothe her after all. Best friend magic

"Have you called dad and mom?" Esther asked.

"I haven't I will call them tomorrow. I'm too tired to start listening to any Chastisement now." She yawned again, then she went on a long silence. None of the two girls said something for like two minutes.

"Ben?" Esther called out, she could feel the tension rising up.

"Esther....." Ben started and paused not Knowing what to say, she sniffed.

Esther detected she was about to cry, she does that anytime she wanted to cry.

"Ben, are you okay? Talk to me please." She tried to make Ben say something.

"I really don't know Bestie. I'm just nervous and I don't know, I just don't know." Ben let the tears spill, the tears she's been holding back since she left home, she let it flow. Esther stayed quiet she let Ben cry, listening to her best friend's sobs tore her heart into shreds but she let her cry.

Sometimes we need to cry out our fears and worries.

"Benedicta." Esther finally talked when Ben had finished her sobbing section. "It's going to be alright. Trust me, you have me, you have yourself. And don't ever forget you have God and your parents are there too." She Soothed Ben, Ben knew Esther would do that and that was why she let her know she was vulnerable.

"I hope so." Ben muttered.

"It will baby, stop crying and make sure you sleep well. A big day awaits you tomorrow. I love you love you love you love you love you love you love you." Esther told her, her one aim is to make best friend smile.

"I love you too babe." She finally smiled.

"Thanks. Goodnight and sleep well psycho."

"You say what?.." Ben quickly ended the call not ready for a round of banter.

She switched her phone off and smiled heartily, she hugged her pillow to herself. If Esther was a guy she would definitely date her.

She was her one constant source of happiness and she was glad she was in her life, a huge part of her life.

She closed her eyes and drifted to dream land.
