“What do you mean you found a better candidate? You already gave me this mission!” I yelled out in sheer frustration but the captain didn't budge one bit.
“Hand over the damn files, Jared. You know better than to give me a headache this fine morning.” He replied, stretching out his hand toward me and I ran my hand through my hair, finally understanding that the universe wasn't my best friend.
I took out the documents from my bag and threw them on the table instead of handing them to him, and the way the veins in his forehead bulged, I knew he wasn't impressed. But I didn't care anymore. He can go fuck himself.
He turned away from me with a dismissive wave, and I turned around, ready to walk away, but for reasons unknown to me, my legs wouldn't move. Was I disappointed? Angry? Frustrated?
Hell yeah.
Why do they all love to treat me like shit? Was I such a pushover? Someone they could use whenever they pleased and discard like a useless piece of shit?
I've had enough.
With that thought, I turned toward the captain, and his eyes met mine, his expression questioning why I hadn't left his office yet. Without thinking, I said something I wouldn't have dared to say in my entire life.
“Fuck you, captain.” I spat in anger and his eyes widened in shock, like he wasn't expecting those words from me. Then his expression immediately contorted into anger and he shot up from his seat like it was burning his butt.
“How dare you—”
His words were cut short when an officer barged into the office like he was being chased and I immediately got into a defensive position, looking out for any attacker. But to my surprise, there was none.
“I can't do it!” He yelled as he barged into the office and I straightened up, my brows raised in confusion and amusement.
“What do you mean you can't do it? You're the only person who can do this perfectly!” Captain retorted, his face red with anger as he slammed his palm on the table, and the officer shook his head in terror.
“You can fire me, Captain! But there's no way I'm going after the son of Don Martinez!” He yelled and it finally dawned on me that this was the candidate who was “supposedly” perfect for this job.
“What's so bad about his son?” I chirped in before the captain could speak and the officer turned to look at me like I had two horns on my head.
“Everyone knows how ruthless the Martinez’ are. They have no mercy on people and they kill like it's a normal daily activity!” He blurted before turning to look at the captain. “I only agreed to take this mission because I thought the suspect was a mediocre person. Not Aaron Martinez!” He yelled with pure horror written all over his face.
I stood by the side with a small smile on my face, watching the whole drama unfold like a high school play. Perfect candidate, my ass. Such a scaredy cat wasn't even fit to be a police officer.
Before the captain could try to counter his words, he dropped his badge on the desk, and without hesitation, he ran out of the office the same way he came in. Silence reigned for a moment and my lips curved into a small smile as I clutched my bag tightly.
“I'll take my leave now, captain,” I muttered and turned around but just as I expected, he called out to me, causing me to halt in my tracks.
“Jared, I was wrong. You are the only person worthy and perfect enough to take on this mission. How could I be so blind?” He muttered, his voice suddenly calm and smooth as silk, causing me to nearly let out a scoff of amusement.
“Oh no, captain,” I replied, turning to look at him with a solemn look on my face. “I already left the documents with you and you already have a perfect candidate for the job. What could a mere constable like me do?” I asked and an expression of panic formed on his face as he grabbed the documents before making his way to my side.
“Don't mind my dumb words, Jared. I just wanted to test you and see? You passed! This job was originally meant for you. No one else can do it as good as you—”
“You mean no one is as naive as I to take on the mission, right?” I interrupted him, and he froze, his left eye twitching in annoyance, but he quickly covered it up with a smile.
“Jared, the benefits that come with taking on this mission aren't something that you should pass over so easily. Why don't you give it a second thought?” He asked, placing his hand on my shoulder and I let out a scoff of disbelief.
“What benefits? Are they worth endangering my life?”
I was gonna take the mission without him trying to sugarcoat me, but if there were indeed benefits that came apart from getting promoted, it wouldn't hurt to play hard-to-get for now.
“Jared,” He sucked in a sharp breath and took out another document from the drawers of his desk before handing it to me. “Take a look at that.”
With my brows raised, I scanned the documents in front of me, and for a moment, I was confused. Until I finally registered what it meant.
“You're not going on any mediocre mission. You're leaving this small city and moving to California. I'm assuming you already know this.” He explained and I blinked in confusion. I didn't realize that I had to leave Denver for California.
I've never left this city before… And the adrenaline rush that suddenly coursed through me made me giddy with excitement.
“You'll be taking on a new identity. Everything you own from now on will be taken care of by the police department. We'll have eyes watching you over there so you won't be alone. You'll have a new life, Jared. And not a life of suffering.” Captain explained softly while my eyes were still glued to the paper I was clutching tightly.
A new identity. A new profession. A new house. A new car. A new city. It felt like I was starting my life over again.
“But, captain—”
“Did I mention you'll be given a million dollars for this mission?” He interrupted and I choked on air instantly, my eyes widening at his words.
Japheth “Am I in trouble?” I asked with raised brows, unable to understand what was going on with him and he let out a sigh. His shoulders dropped as he suddenly pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly like he was scared to let go. What could have happened?“If anything happens to you because of me I won't be able to forgive myself.” He whispered, clinging to me tightly and I slowly relaxed, rubbing his back gently.“Nothing will happen to me, Aaron. Just tell me what's going on.” I probed softly and he pulled back, his hands cupping my face gently.“Remember Matteo?” He questioned and I paused to think. “My brother that I told you about?”Of course, I remembered him. I already had his name up on my investigation board. Which I created only this morning because what kind of detective doesn't have an investigation board?“The one who made you late the last time?” I asked and he nodded. “Yeah, I think I do. What happened to him?”“He found out about… us.” He muttered and my eyes wi
Aaron “Shoot me. I fucking dare you.” I said, holding the gun to my head and he glared at me for a long time, his fist clenched tightly. Finally, he dropped the gun to his side with frustration written all over his face while I scoffed in amusement.“Coward.” I muttered as he shoved his gun into his pocket and turned to me. “I don't care what you do with your stupid life or who you stick your dicks into. But stay away from that professor.” He said and my hands clenched into fists.“And why do I have to listen to you?” I questioned defiantly and he looked pissed off that I kept countering his words. “You are meant to marry Danielle and solidify the family's alliance. It's your fucking destiny, you can't run from it.” He said, glancing at Danielle. “Your random gay flings won't get you anywhere so cut it off this instant.”“And if I don't?” I asked as he started to walk away, making him freeze. “I will not marry Danielle.”“What did you say?”“I know your ears work as fine as your ey
AaronI left Japheth's house in a hurry, not because I was afraid of telling him the truth, but because Jace called, and he sounded so serious that it made me worried.“You have to return to the mansion. Immediately.” Those were his exact words and it made me nervous as I wondered what the hell was going on.Was I in some kind of trouble? Or was he in trouble? The car sped down the road in a flash as I made a turn and the mansion slowly came into view. I finally slammed on the brakes, slowing the car to a stop and got out.I sucked in a sharp breath and then walked in, trying to act natural. Japheth's scent was all over me and that ended up grounding me better than I expected. As soon as I pushed the door open, my gaze landed on Danielle standing beside Matteo and my eyes immediately narrowed in suspicion. What was she doing here? With Matteo?“Look who finally remembered that he has a home to return to.” Matteo's mocking voice welcomed me in and I rolled my eyes.“You call this hous
Japheth Aaron rubbed his neck with a nervous expression as I glared at him.“I swear it's not that bad.” He whispered, staring at me with his lips almost curling into a smile and I scoffed in disbelief.“It's not that bad? Look at my neck, Aaron. Hickeys! How do I go to school with this?” I asked in horror, taking in the angry red marks on my neck and shoulder that were caused by none other than my student.“You could always wear a shawl… or a turtleneck sweater?” He muttered with a sheepish grin and I facepalmed, shaking my head in disbelief.“Did you really need to go this far?” I asked with a frown, glancing at myself in the mirror again, and he suddenly wrapped his hands around my waist.“Let go.” I said with a pouty expression but he chose to rest his head on my shoulder instead, kissing my shoulder gently.“I'm sorry… I just couldn't resist you. It's not my fault that you're so yummy.” He said with a smile as he stared at me through the mirror and I rolled my eyes.“Don't do th
Japheth It felt like I was submerged in water but I could breathe just fine. I was resting against something, or maybe someone and arms were wrapped around me, grounding me.My eyes slowly opened, and I recognized the walls of my bathroom immediately. I was still at home and I was in the bathroom. In the bathtub. With…I jerked up immediately, turning to see Aaron stare at me in worry as he sat up as well.“Are you alright?” He asked, obviously concerned, and I let out a sigh of relief as I collapsed against him, patting my beating heart.“For some reason, I thought you left,” I muttered softly, my back against his chest and he pulled me even closer to him, wrapping his arms around me. “You passed out on me and you thought I'd leave? I'm not that inconsiderate, am I?” He asked, sounding offended and I immediately shook my head.“I didn't mean it like that… I'm sorry.” I mumbled and he chuckled, placing a soft kiss on my cheek.“I was pulling your legs, love. I know you didn't mean t
Japheth “Take it slow…” “It's not my fault you're so fucking tight. You're literally squeezing me so hard.”“It still hurts… Please be gentle.”“Look at me… Keep your eyes on me, okay?”Aaron's dick was halfway inside me and it felt like I was being split open. I tried so hard not to push him away or cry out from the pain so he wouldn't change his mind.He added more lube over his cock and slid all the way out before sliding back in, going in deeper than before. I had begged him to ditch the condom earlier, even though I didn't understand why, I just wanted to feel every part of him.“Oh lord…” I breathed as he continued to thrust in and out of me, his movements slow and rhythmic, making the pain turn into something sensual. My legs were on his shoulders and his hands were beside both sides of my head. I could see how hard he was trying not to hurt me, and without thinking, I pulled his head down, kissing him deeply. He kissed me back, his thrusts increasing by the second until he
Japheth I stood frozen, my eyes still wide from the shock. Aaron had hugged me like his life depended on it. And before I could say a word, he bolted. Probably to go after his father. But I couldn't get over the fact that he had hugged me a minute ago.I couldn't even understand why I had stood up
AaronMy mind raced as I stepped on the accelerator, my car speeding down the road without caring that I could get flagged down by officials. I knew I was in deep trouble. I also knew Japheth could be in deeper trouble because of me. He wouldn't have needed to protect me and defy Father if I didn't
Aaron I knew telling my father to leave would get me in trouble. Hell, I could spend days in the white room for this. But I needed him to leave. He came here to try to intimidate Japheth but there was no way in hell that I would let him do that in front of me.I could see the look of shock on Japh
Aaron.I arrived back home faster than expected, my heart thumping hard in my chest as Jace stood by the door waiting for me with a grim expression on his face and I knew something was wrong.“Am I in trouble?” I questioned with a yawn as soon as I got out of the car and he gave me a small nod that
