Logan

As the night falls, I settle down to rest in the base near Fangport.

I know I need to rest and gather strength more than ever, especially with the looming war, but I can’t shut down my thoughts.

Suddenly, footsteps approach me and I jump up, turning around sharply, expecting an enemy to approach, but relax the moment I realize it’s Marcel.

“Alpha,” he greets me with a slight bow of his head. “Are you alright? I just received the news that the warriors have returned to the Capital.”

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 163

LoganOnly one day passes since we find out about what’s going on in Deadfang and suddenly, our life is turned completely upside down. I’m barely awake, sipping my coffee, when I’m approached by one of Derrick’s guards, who frantically reports to me about the rumors of a plague that’s spreading in Deadfang. In a matter of hours, it seems the entire kingdom has heard about it. “What else have you heard?” I ask him and set my cup aside. This is no time to enjoy a simple morning ritual, we’re facing possibly the biggest betrayal in decades. The guard looks around, as if scared to be overhead sharing gossip and leans closer, lowering his voice to a mere whisper, “the men that were sent to Deadfang started returning to the Capital.” “Are they in the hospital now?” I ask, ready to take off with the tiny hope one of them could be aware enough to share more information. “Yes and no, Alpha,” the man mutters and averts his gaze. I grab his shoulders and shake him a little. “Tell me. What

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 162

LoganI’ve been avoiding everyone after I watched Amelia leave with Ethan. No matter how much I try to reassure myself she knows what she’s doing and she’ll be safe, I can’t help but worry. Irritated, I receive the mind-link from Derrick that summons me to the conference room. When I arrive, Derrick is already sitting at the end of the large table, Beta Richard stands behind him and Marcel enters the room soon after me. I sit down and wait, eager to find out how much has changed barely a day after they left. Marcel stands before us and clears his throat. “All Alphas and Lunas have reported safe returns to their packs already.”Derrick, although still not fully healed after the poisoning, nods and looks satisfied with the update. “How is Ethan handling the elite warriors he won from the king?” I ask Marcel, truly curious about what he might be doing. The whole idea of sending those men with him was mainly to have our eyes on every step Ethan might make back home, so every small th

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 161

AmeliaAfter I leave Professor Michael’s office, I return to the waiting room where Sandy is sitting, reading a magazine. As if sensing me, she looks up from the pages and smiles. “Finally, I was starting to get worried,” she announces and sets the magazine aside, then walks up to me. “There’s no need to worry about me,” I assure her. “Ready to go home?” “Of course,” she exclaims cheerfully. “But tell me, how did your check-up go? Is everything okay with the baby? When Sophia told me you need more tests, she didn’t specify if anything’s wrong.” The guards follow us out of the hospital and lead us towards a waiting car. “The baby is okay,” I assure her. “Sophia just ordered more tests to be completely sure I’m not exhausting myself. As we get in the car, I realize we’re going back to the large house Ethan moved me into before we had to leave for the Capital. I can’t help but wonder why, especially now that I don’t have to hide and everyone knows my death was a ploy while I hid in

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 160

AmeliaSeconds drag along until eventually, Professor Michael sighs and meets my gaze again. “A healing gift like that is both a blessing and a curse, Amelia,” he finally whispers. I arch an eyebrow, trying my best to follow his words and figure out what he’s trying to say. “If the identity of a gifted healer is exposed, every pack leader will fight tooth and nail to ensure they ‘own’ such a powerful person,” Michael adds. Judging by the weariness in his tone and the way he keeps avoiding my gaze, I have a feeling he has lived through something awful and is speaking from experience. Clearing my throat, I remind myself to stay calm before I speak up. “Professor, tell me, did you ever meet the previous gifted healer?” Not only do I want to learn more about my abilities, but I truly hope this person, whoever they are, could teach me something too.Maybe they can help me develop an antidote for the new toxin that almost killed Derrick. If the poison is still out there, I wouldn’t ha

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 159

AmeliaFor the rest of the drive back to Deadfang, both Ethan and I remain silent. He seems to have a lot on his mind and honestly, I struggle to come to terms with his previous words. I might be paranoid, but they did sound like a threat.“You’re not paranoid,” my wolf grumbles. “And if you are, so am I because those words did sound like a rather dark warning.” I agree with her but don’t continue the conversation, fearing Ethan could notice how distracted I get and start questioning me. When we finally arrive at Deadfang, I feel like I can breathe again. “Let me accompany you back home,” Ethan says as he helps the driver lift the bags out of the trunk. “Actually,” I drag the word and clear my throat. “I need to head to the hospital. I promised Sophia I’ll get a check-up as soon as I return.” Ethan looks at me for a long moment, searching my eyes for lies and eventually nods in agreement. “I’ll go with you.” I should’ve predicted he might want to be there, but I have more plan

  • Wrong Bride, True Luna   CHAPTER 158

AmeliaWhen I approached the border with Ethan at my side and noticed Logan standing in the distance, a surge of raw, true happiness spread through my chest. Of course, knowing how much Ethan and Logan despise each other, I hide how I feel, mainly because I want to avoid unnecessary fights this close to our leaving. When Katherine announces she has something to say to Ethan, I don’t really pay much attention to her words. “Maybe it’s something serious,” my wolf mutters from the back of my head. “Logan hates Ethan and Katherine still acts like Logan’s Luna. Something feels off.” While her concerns are valid, I can’t focus on a word. The only thing that seems of importance to me right now is that I get to spend a few more moments with Logan. I’m so grateful he came here to see me, so I don’t spare a glance at Ethan as Logan places a gentle hand on my back and guides me aside, so we’re not overheard. Once we’re out of everyone’s earshot, Logan turns and looks down at me. The longin
