“Thank you so much.” Kara bowed slightly to Leo, who smiled at her before glancing at the house behind her.

“Is this your house?” he asked, his tone curious. The neighborhood looked too exclusive for just anyone to live in.

“I work here,” she said softly. Leo nodded with a small ‘oh,’ and Kara smiled politely before stepping out of the car. She waved briefly as he drove off, the sound of the car fading into the quiet street.

When he was gone, her smile dropped. Her heart thudded painfully as she faced the tall gate. She stood there for a few seconds, drawing in shaky breaths before she finally knocked. The gate opened almost immediately, and the guard looked startled when he saw her. His eyes widened like he was seeing a ghost. Kara ignored his reaction, assuming he was surprised because he hadn’t seen her leave last night.

She stepped into the house and froze. Everyone looked tense, especially Luci, who jumped to her feet the second she saw her.

“Gosh, where did you go? You turned th

Luci woke up to the harsh brightness flooding the room. The side of her neck throbbed as she shifted, a sharp ache forcing a low groan out of her throat. Her vision blurred while she slowly pushed herself upright on the soft bed beneath her.She blinked a few times, her eyes adjusting as she took in the space around her. The room was too large, everything in it looked expensive, cold and untouched, like no one truly lived there. Her gaze drifted to a wide glass window across the room. It was dull from her side, telling her immediately that it was tinted from the outside. She swallowed hard.It looks like a villa. Surely a villa. Her feet touched the cold floor and she hissed softly, steadying herself as another wave of pain shot through her neck. She checked the room quickly, panic creeping in when she realized her bag was gone. She moved to the window and peered down, her stomach sinking when she realized she was on the top floor. There was no balcony. No escape. The bathroom was ju

Edward woke up to noise, voices overlapped with panic and fear. His vision was blurry as his eyes fluttered open, the first thing he saw being students running out of the venue in every direction. The place looked nothing like it had minutes earlier. His head throbbed painfully when he tried to sit up. A sharp ache ran through his skull and he hissed, pressing his palm to the side of his head. Then memory came rushing back all at once. His breath hitched as he remembered Luci. He forced himself upright immediately and reached for his phone. The screen was cracked but it still lit up. Relief washed through him when he saw it was working and quickly dialed the number Luci had called for him. Before the call could connect, Miguel rushed toward him with panic written all over his face.“What happened? Why did they take Luci?” he demanded.Edward opened his mouth to explain but the call suddenly connected.“H-Hello…” he croaked, his voice rough and strained. On the other end of the line, J

“So,” she glanced around, “first big party. Thoughts?”“Too loud. Too crowded. But… interesting.” he replied honestly.“Interesting is polite for chaos.”“Exactly.”Miguel returned then, holding two drinks. He handed one to Luci with a small smile. “You disappeared.”“Five seconds.”Edward’s eyes flicked to the cup in her hand. “You drink?”She looked at the cup like it had personally offended her. “Not really.”Miguel raised a brow. “Not really?”She shot him a look. “Okay. Once.”Edward leaned in slightly. “Once?”She lowered her voice like she was sharing classified information. “My uncle confiscated my phone for two months. I was miserable so I drank out of spite.”Edward winced. “That’s rough.”“It was in secret though,” she added. Edward laughed, genuinely this time. “Nothing stays secret in my family.”“Protective?”“Very. They know when I breathe differently.”“Wow, they are really protective.” Luci muttered, even though she knows what it feels like. It's usually suffocating

Kara went straight to her room and dropped onto the bed, lying flat as she stared at the ceiling. Jairo’s words kept replaying in her head, looping no matter how hard she tried to push them away. She told herself they didn’t bother her but that was a lie she didn’t fully believe. Still, she clung to the promise that he would never leave her. Not even if the real Emilia returned. She was still lost in thought when her phone rang. Without checking the caller ID, she answered.“Yes?”“Your boyfriend’s ex found me.”Her eyes flew open. She pulled the phone away from her ear and stared at the screen, her heart skipping a beat before she put it back.“Lina?” she asked carefully.“Yeah. It’s me.”“I have been expecting your call. You disabled your other line and I kept wondering if you would even think I was worth calling.”Silence followed and she frowned slightly, sensing the weight behind it.“Eloise Webster found me,” Lina said instead, ignoring her whining, “I don’t know what kind of r

“So that’s all,” Luci said, giggling as she finished her narration.Kara stayed quiet, her face blank. She didn’t know who Edward Jones was and she didn’t want to interrupt or ask the wrong question. She was simply listening as she observed the way Luci’s eyes shone with excitement.“You did great,” Jairo finally said, clearly pleased. He reached out and rubbed her hair and her smile widened instantly at the praise. “How was school today?”“It was great,” she replied eagerly. “I really worked hard to get that information with the help of that guy you saw with me.”His expression shifted slightly. “What’s his name?”“Miguel Callaway.”He nodded once, filing the name away in his mind. “Okay. About the party, you’re free to attend but Andro will pick you up by ten p.m. No sleeping over.”Luci nodded quickly, clearly satisfied with that arrangement. Without wasting another second, she turned and skipped out of the room, her energy bright and carefree.Jairo watched her go, a small smile l

Kara got home just before evening fully settled in. She didn’t linger downstairs or greet anyone longer than necessary. She went straight to her room, changed out of her clothes, washed her face, and took a steady breath like she was bracing herself for something important. Once she felt a little calmer, she stepped back into the hallway and headed for Jairo’s room. She was sure he would be home by now.She knocked lightly at his door. There was no response but she knew him well enough to guess what that silence meant. Carefully, she pushed the door open just a bit and peeked inside. Jairo was stretched on the bed with his laptop balanced on his thighs, his attention fully locked on the screen. That alone told her he was busy.“I can come back,” she said softly, already preparing to retreat.“You’re here already,” he muttered without lifting his eyes. She pressed her lips together, the card in her hand feeling heavier than it should have. She walked farther into the room and sat very
