🦋 BENITA 🦋

I arrived at the office alarmed; it was either the chairwoman or Rose - one of them had done something wrong, I was sure about that.

As I walked through, my colleague’s eyes were wide with worry, their faces pale and drawn. They avoided eye contact with me, their gazes darting away as if afraid to hold my gaze for too long. Some took a step back, their bodies tense and alert, as if preparing for a threat.

I noticed some people gathered, staring at the announcement board, so I walked towards them.

When they saw me, they shifted, and I looked at the announcement written boldly on the board.

“Benita James, promoted to Vice President,” I read out loud.

My eyes widened in surprise as I read it again, “Vice president?” I blinked, taken aback. "How?" I thought, confusion etched on my face.

My ex-colleague rushed towards me, some even took my hands to show affection, “Ma, I'm glad you are here, we all missed you.” They muttered, grinning shamelessly.

I rolled my eyes in disgust, “

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 I burst through the front door of my apartment, panic and fear pushing me forward. I slammed the door shut behind me and frantically locked it, double-checking to make sure it was secure. My hands trembled as I rushed to close all the windows, the sound of the locks clicking into place.Breathless and shaking, I retreated to a corner in my room, my eyes darting around the space as if searching for an escape or a hiding place. My phone slipped from my pocket, and I clutched it tightly, my fingers trembling as I tried to steady myself. With shaky hands, I dialled Felix's number, my heart racing as I waited for him to answer. The silence in the room was oppressive, and I strained to hear any sound that might signal danger. My voice was barely above a whisper as I waited for Felix on the other end to pick up.Felix picked up on the second ring, and I whispered into the phone with a shaky breath, “Felix, she's here,” I murmured, fearing she might hear me and trace m

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 The hall was set up with a podium at the front, where Felix and I stood, surrounded by logos and banners representing the company. Rows of chairs faced us, filled with journalists, camera crews, and photographers. The room was well-lit, with bright lights illuminating the space and spotlights focused on us.Cameras of various sizes stood ready, some on tripods, others handheld by eager reporters. The atmosphere was anticipatory, with a sense of expectation hanging in the air. The sound system was crisp, ensuring our words would reach every corner of the room.At the back, technicians managed the live stream equipment, ensuring the press conference would reach a broader audience beyond those physically present. The hall buzzed with energy, ready for the announcement.Felix and I stood confidently at the podium. Felix adjusted the microphone to ensure his voice would carry clearly to the room full of reporters and cameras. The bright lights and sea of expectant f

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 The police officer walked out of the office a few minutes later, and we puffed out a sigh of relief.Greg and Nikita also followed, awkwardly avoiding each other, but that was not the most important thing we should be worried about.“We no longer need to speak to you, police officer,” Greg announced, facing Scott. “We settled our differences.”“Yes, we did… we definitely did,” Nikita added, and they both walked out of the station.Scott laughed awkwardly and faced the police captain. “Seems they wouldn't be needing my help; they settled! I guess my break is back on.”We walked out of the police station, and Scott gawked at me anxiously. “Do you think they got it? With the way they are avoiding each other, I think something happened. Do you think they had a bigger fight this time?”I inhaled sharply. “We'll find out when we get to my apartment, but they'd better have that file.”*** 🦋 ***We drove in silence towards my apartment; neither Greg nor Nikita spoke t

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 Greg and Felix arrived, and then a few minutes later, Scott arrived. The five of us stood staring at each other, and then inhaled sharply.“This is the only hope we have in settling this mess,” Felix announced. “Let's work hard and be careful not to get caught. We can't let this case get more complicated than it already is.”Scott puffed out a sigh of frustration. “I really didn't want to say this because I don't know your motive, but… I just wanted to remind you that now is not the right time to be on the news. The news of Miss Benita and Miss Nikita disrupting someone else's wedding has spread like wildfire. You made things go from bad to worse.”I shook my head in defence. “I had to save my sister… I didn't know it would get to this.”“You are currently the country’s bad example,” Scott added.I nodded in understanding. “Ohh great!”Greg slammed his eyes shut. “I can understand Nikita fought… but you?” He muttered, “How could you let her rub off you so negat

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 I turned around the bed, inhaling and exhaling sharply, unable to sleep. No matter how hard I tried not to let whatever she said bother me, it still did. “I really have my own problems right now,” I whispered to myself, sitting up.Things in my life were moving too fast, and I didn't want to add to it, but all of a sudden, a family that I didn't know exist in this world suddenly appeared, claiming to need my help, and honestly, I couldn't stop thinking about it.“So…” Nikita stated as she kicked my door open, “Who was that stranger?”I sighed, looking in her direction, “She's not a stranger; she’s my sister.”“You have a sister?” Nikita asked in shock.I nodded. “I'm only just finding out myself.”Nikita's lips formed an O. “What does she want? You said your stepmother kicked you out.”I sighed again. “Yes, but now the family has gone bankrupt and is in debt, so my stepmother wants to use my half-sister to settle the debt by marrying her off to a man who beats

🦋 BENITA CELESTINE 🦋 “Dad?” I murmured, standing at the entrance to my apartment with a middle-aged man staring at me. He didn't look like he did when I was ten; some parts of his hair had turned grey, and his face had so many wrinkles. He wasn't well dressed like he used to also, and his skin looked pale.I shut the door to avoid others listening to our conversation and stood at the balcony staring at him, “My daughter,” his elderly voice echoed out, “You have grown so much, I could barely recognise you on the news.”I stood there, staring at him as a shameless smile curled up on his face, “I'm here to take you home… my beautiful daughter,” he announced, stretching his arms for me to hold onto.I took two trembling steps backwards, “How dare you?” I whispered. “You threw me out of the house! You are coming to me now? Do you even know what I went through after I was kicked out? I'm not your daughter, old man, I'll never be your daughter.”“But you just called me Dad,” he snapped.“
