Chapter 2

Lisa's POV

I slowly opened my eyes and moved my hands gently to check if he was next to me. I thought wrong. He has left already. Is this his new way of doing things now? Coming home late in the evening and leaving very early in the morning.

I just need to calm down a bit and get ready for work. I was feeling nauseous. In the bathroom, about to turn on the shower, I ended up throwing up. Don’t tell me I have fallen sick already.. Come on, not today. I need to be fully okay so I will be able to teach my students. Oh mine is Friday,, I guess I will visit the hospital to carry out a general checkup so I can know what is wrong with me and commence treatment already. I hope when he returns home tonight, things will be better and I will make sure our conversation doesn't end up in a serious argument again.

I managed to have my bath and made some chocolate tea as I drove off to school. I recited a poem to the kids and I loved the way they smiled while reciting with me. Kids are so innocent I must say. A pure soul. I wish I could be a kid again and just think about food, playing with my friends and doing all the kids stuff. I guess being an adult is so demanding that’s why we need to value every day of our life, time is never on our side and more reason, I will not let my marriage crumble. I suddenly felt dizzy, so I ended my teaching and joined the teachers at the office but there was no one on sight. Are they still teaching? It's break time or did I see the wrong time?

About to have my seat, I heard a loud noise seeing my colleagues coming in with a birthday cake and a lot of celebration items as they began singing, “Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday …happy birthday…happy birthday to you..” OMG…It’s my birthday. How on earth did I forget all about it? Gosh, I allowed the issues happening in my marriage to invade my thinking and forgot all about my big day. This is insane.

“Thank you so much.” I hugged everyone and tears of joy left my eyes. They wore me a cap and gave me the cake to make a wish which I did. I hope my marriage will be peaceful again. I had fun with them despite still feeling sick. I excused myself to throw up immediately at the teachers restroom meant for females.

Washing my hands, I got a beep on my phone. I dried my hands to check it out, a happy birthday text from Rosa then a voice note followed up immediately saying she is so sorry for wishing me late.

“Thank you so much Rosa, I really appreciate you.” I replied.

“You are welcome, get dressed by 4pm, let’s make your day special.” She texted again and a smile finally curved on my lips. Maybe my husband is planning to throw a big party for me and he is using his best friend to get me to the venue. I love him so much. I guess I just need to get to the hospital very quickly so I can get home to get all set for my big day celebration.

I left for the hospital after school ended. I waited for my turn patiently to give out my blood sample at the lab for them to carry out their test. A few moments later, I found myself seated at Doctor Sam’s office though he was not present. I saw a beautiful frame of a young lady in her early twenties and she kind of has the same nose and eyes just like doctor Sam. The door finally opened revealing Doctor Sam, he had his weird glasses on and he said to me with a smile, “I am so sorry Mrs. Lisa for keeping you waiting.”

“It's okay doctor.”

“Congratulations to you Mrs. Lisa.” He handed over the results to me and I really do not know why he is saying congratulations. I came because I am feeling sick and he just says congratulations.

“What do you mean doctor?”

“You are pregnant Mrs. Lisa.”

“Are you serious?” I asked in excitement and he said to me with a smile, “You can check the results.” I opened it and it was true. I am truly pregnant. I am going to be a mother and Daniel will be a father. I can’t wait to break the news to him tonight. I know he will be so happy about it. I remember when he came to my place of work, he was so different from kids. He played so easily and they loved him as well. This is the best birthday present ever. I thanked the doctor and took my leave. I almost ended up calling his number but I held back, let’s wait for the night.

I finally got home, humming my favourite song by West life titled ‘MY LOVE’, as I got all set for tonight's surprise. I wore a red short gown with the breast curve decorated with diamonds and showing my curves.. I applied makeup on my face and just like magic, I got transformed and I looked like I was still twenty. I got the address of the venue from Rosa. Golden Hotel at Lane 5….What?? A hotel? Why? I expected something else.. Anyway, maybe he has other naughty plans for me after the celebration.

I drove off to the venue and it was very easy for me to navigate. One of the workers wearing their uniform came to me and I gave him the keys to park my car well. I used the opportunity to reach out to Rosa letting her know about my arrival. Immediately I got tapped, he returned the keys. I thanked him and headed to the rooftop using the elevator. I was so excited and I just can’t wait to behold my husband. After all the previous argument, we are going to have a blast tonight.

I called Rosa and she joined me just in time, a handsome figure standing beside her and his eyes were all over my body making me so uncomfortable.

“You made it Lisa, you look so good.” She hugged me and I let out a smile, “Thank you so much and you are not looking bad either.”

“Oh stop it, and happy birthday to you once again.”

“Thanks a lot.” I scanned the place but found no sign of Daniel. I guess he is not ready to surprise me, I wonder what kind of surprise he had planned for me. I just can’t wait. The butterflies in my belly danced in excitement at the glimpse of my imagination.

“Happy birthday beautiful Lisa.” The guy beside her took my hands and it was weird when he kissed them. I gave Rosa a look then she said, “Oh I forgot to introduce him, this is Bryan, my boyfriend…Bryan, this is Lisa, Daniel’s wife.”

“Nice to meet you.” I said but he bites his lips like he was flirting with me before he said, “The pleasure is all mine.”

“Oh damn,baby I forgot my purse in the car.” Rosa acted like a baby to her lover, I guess she must really be into him and as for him,I reserve my comments.

“Go get it, I will take your friend to the room so I can grab my credit card.”

“Lisa, please go with him,I will join you both.”

“Oh okay, please be fast.”

“I will.” I guess Daniel might be waiting in the room so I followed him. I was really irritated when Bryan started talking about how hot I was.

We stepped into the room and there was no one and no surprises either. Just like a speed of light, Bryan resumed flirting with me as he pinned me to the wall, “You know your presence got my dick erected.”

“I am married and you are my friend's lover.” I said.

“Oh come on, we are two adults here, why don’t we make a quickie?” He tried to make advances, I slapped him hard on the face.. “Get away from me.”

“You are the tough one…no problem.. just know we will spend the night together whether you like it or not, when I see what I like I get it..” he let go and I rushed to leave but the door was locked.

“Open this door.” I yelled..

“Relax, I found it anyway.” He picked up his credit card and opened the door. Coming out in a hurry he grabbed my waist saying, “My dick is always here in case you feel lonely.” He let me go and now I am thinking of going home. Rosa met us and we took the elevator to the rooftop. He kissed her and I don’t know if It will be right to tell Rosa the kind of man she is with or I should mind my business.

I had my seat as Rosa ordered the waitress to serve us our menu. I couldn’t stop scanning the place looking for Daniel. Is he going to take more time? My favorite chicken wings were served with a cold drink. I dug in as they engaged me with some amazing conversations but I still looked at Bryan in disgust,he was still flirting with me. I noticed I was dozing off gradually, this can’t happen now. “Rosa, When is Daniel coming? Is he..” my voice sounded faint and later became inaudible. I heard their voices sounding so distant despite being very close to me. Their voices started to fade off. I gradually lost my vision and the only thing I can remember before the whole place turned dark. A strong hand gripping me and carrying me.
