Chapter 16

There was actually a ring on Gu Chi’s slender ring finger.

It was the simplest of designs, inlaid with some melee diamonds.

Was this not the ring Su Kexin had bought and tossed into her dresser table drawer?

Su Kexin was stunned, and she even forgot to sit down by the dining table. Eventually, Gu Chi raised his head and looked at her.

“What is it?” Gu Chi asked, but when his gaze swept across her empty finger, he raised his brow slightly. “Where’s your wedding ring?”

Su Kexin was left feeling a little awkward there.

Earlier, she had thought that the ring she bought did not suit Gu Chi, so she did not wear hers in front of him either. What she did not expect was for Gu Chi to find the ring she had stowed away and even put it on.

Su Kexin had no choice but to take her ring out of her bag, but when she put it on, she could not help but say softly, “Sorry, I just simply chose the design.”

Su Kexin’s lips curved. “It’s alright. It looks good.”

Su Kexin did not know what to say to that, so she just sat down and buried her head into her breakfast.

After breakfast, Gu Chi folded the newspaper he was holding and said calmly, “Let me send you to work.”

“There’s no need for that,” Su Kexin said hurriedly. “I can just call a cab or take the subway.”

As if she would let him do that! If the people at the company recognized Gu Chi, the women at the magazine would tear her to pieces!

“This place is quite far from the subway.” Gu Chi frowned slightly. “We can’t get cabs here either.”

It was true. Su Kexin noticed this yesterday when she moved in. In a suburb of mansions for wealthy people, all the residents drove their own cars, so of course there would not be any cabs or subway stations here.”

Su Kexin glanced at her watch and saw that it was getting late, so she had to say, “In that case, could you send me to a subway station along the way?”

Gu Chi raised his gaze to look at Su Kexin, and it made her a little nervous all of a sudden. Eventually, though, Gu Chi nodded.

By the time Su Kexin and Gu Chi arrived at the gates, there was already a black Bentley waiting outside.

Su Kexin suddenly realized that she had never seen his car the last few times they met. It must be because he was hiding his identity from her on purpose.

Inwardly, Su Kexin chuckled to herself in exasperation as she walked to the car.

There was a young man standing next to the car, and he introduced himself as Yang Zuo, Gu Chi’s special assistant.

Yang Zuo opened the car door, and just as Su Kexin was curious to see how Gu Chi got into the car, a metal plate descended from the car. Just like that, Gu Chi’s wheelchair slid inside.

Su Kexin went inside and saw that the interior of the car had been renovated as well. There was a space especially for Gu Chi’s wheelchair.

After Su Kexin took her seat, the car started off very soon and drove all the way to the nearest subway station.

The car stopped next to the station, and Gu Chi furrowed his good-looking brows as he looked at the chaotic conditions outside through the car window. “It’s so inconvenient for you to go to work like this. If you don’t want me to drop you off next time, I can prepare a car for you.”

Su Kexin blinked and quickly said, “You really don’t have to.”

Of course she knew that a car was nothing to Gu Chi, but she still felt weird spending Gu Chi’s money.

Su Kexin’s unhesitant rejection made Gu Chi’s black eyes darken slightly. He soon said, “I don’t usually stay at the mansion, so how will you get to work on your own?”

Su Kexin had been considering that as well on the way here, so she immediately took out her phone and waved it. “E-hailing is really convenient nowadays. I just have to wake up a few minutes earlier and book myself a ride. Um… I’m going to be late soon, so I’ll get out now. Bye.”

With that, Su Kexin quickly jumped out of the car.

Inside the car, Gu Chi’s eyes were dark as he looked through the window at the petite figure running away.

Yang Zuo had been watching this unfold from the front seat, and finally he could not stop himself from asking. “Um… Young Master Gu, why does it feel like the Young Madam isn’t like what our investigations say she is?”
