Chapter 18

In S City's financial district, the top floor of Chiyao Group Tower.

Gu Chi sat behind his desk, his fingers flying across his keyboard. The numbers and figures on the screen changed rapidly as he typed.

Ding-ring-ring.

The phone on his desk rang suddenly, and Gu Chi pressed it without thinking. Yang Zuo's voice spoke over the phone.

"Young Master Gu, Young Master Lin is here."

"Let him in."

The office door opened soon enough, and a man with pretty features and a garish pink shirt slipped into the room.

"You're still working, Gu Chi?" When the man saw Gu Chi, he exclaimed exaggeratedly, "I thought that since you finally got married, you would at least go on a honeymoon even if you skipped out on the wedding."

Gu Chi's eyes did not leave the computer screen. He simply replied with two short words. "No time."

The guest had already taken a seat at Gu Chi's desk. Gu Chi's cold attitude did not make him angry; instead, he narrowed his pretty eyes and chuckled. "Poor Sis-in-law, what did she do to marry a man like you?"

Only then did Gu Chi finally turn his eyes to the man, though his expression remained neutral. "What are you trying to say, Lin Ze?"

Lin Ze smiled so brightly that his pretty eyes became crescents. "I'm just bored, so I wanna meet Sis-in-law."

"Forget it." Gu Chi rejected him without a moment's hesitation. "You should know why I married her."

"Of course I know." Lin Ze tugged at the corners of his lips, and his smile faded slowly. "Still, either way, it means you're finally married. You can let go of what happened back then now."

The instant he heard Lin Ze's words, Gu Chi's hands on the keyboard tightened subtly into fists.

"There's nothing I can't let go of." After a brief pause, Gu Chi spoke slowly. "The dead can't come back to life."

Lin Ze looked at Gu Chi and opened his mouth to say something, but the words died on the tip of his tongue.

"What about that little girl from back then?" Lin Ze could not help but ask. "Any news of her?"

"I have some leads," Gu Chi replied without further explanation.

"That's great." Lin Ze finally smiled again. "I've been wondering how you'd pay her back, and I was hoping you would promise to marry her. I can't believe you already sold yourself."

Gu Chi did not pay Lin Ze's shameless teasing any mind.

The lack of a response left Lin Ze looking resentful, but when his gaze fell upon Gu Chi's wheelchair, something flashed irresistibly in his eyes. "Hey… Gu Chi, have you told Sis-in-law about your legs?"

Gu Chi was already beginning to look through the graph the finances department had just handed in, but when he heard that question, his hand paused on his mouse.

"I haven't," Gu Chi replied quietly after a while.

Lin Ze frowned slightly. "Gu Chi, I don't want to judge, but it doesn't matter why you married Sis-in-law. You're already husband and wife, so are you going to keep deceiving her? Maybe…"

Lin Ze paused for a while there, but then he clenched his teeth and plowed on. "Maybe you should give it a try and see if you can accept this new Sis-in-law. You can't keep living in the shadow of your past."

He understood Gu Chi's personality all too well. Although he said he took a wife to shut up the old geezer back home, there was no way he would marry someone if he really did not like her in the slightest.

Gu Chi remained silent, refraining from replying to Lin Ze's question. He quickly looked through the report before finally saying in a low voice,

"I'll never forget. Forever and always."

Lin Ze was instantly stunned.

He looked at Gu Chi's emotionless face, and pain flashed through his eyes.

That accident ten years ago was a nightmare that haunted them all.

Everyone thought that the accident cost Gu Chi his legs.

However, they were all wrong.

In that accident, Gu Chi had lost his heart, not his legs.
