Chapter 7

Gu Chi had been about to leave, but Su Kexin suddenly called out to him, so he stopped his wheelchair and tilted his body to see Su Kexin running at him, panting.

"Here's the five thousand I owe you." Su Kexin came to a stop in front of Gu Chi and held the yellow envelope in front of him.

The whole marriage thing had been so sudden that Su Kexin nearly forgot why she was here. She came here to meet Gu Chi so she could return the money.

Gu Chi looked from the yellow envelope to Su Kexin's solemn face and blinked.

Soon, however, he chuckled out loud.

Now Su Kexin was stunned instead.

They had met twice now, but this was the first time she had seen Gu Chi laugh.

Gu Chi was very good-looking, with beautifully chiseled features, but his expression was always too cold. When he smiled now, though, all the lines on his face softened at once. It left Su Kexin a little awestruck.

"I can't believe you still remember." When Gu Chi spoke, his tone was less distant and a tad more amused, exasperated. "There's no need for that anymore."

"I have to return what I owe," Su Kexin said adamantly, holding out the envelope again.

However, Gu Chi still refused to accept her money. He just raised his gaze and looked at her.

Because she had been running earlier, Su Kexin's small face was now flushed red, and there were small crystal droplets of sweat under her messy little fringe, sliding down her smooth and gentle cheek.

For a second there, Gu Chi actually felt the urge to reach out his hand and push her scattered hair aside.

However, that was only for a split second. Soon, Gu Chi went back to his usual cold expression.

"We're married now, so you don't have to care so much about money," he said mildly. With that, Gu Chi did not give Su Kexin another chance to say anything. He started his wheelchair and simply left.

"Ah, wait a sec…" Su Kexin wanted to stop Gu Chi, but he did not even turn back, and now his wheelchair was a long way away.

Feeling somewhat frustrated, Su Kexin put the envelope she was holding away again. After she watched Gu Chi leave, she finally headed toward the bus stop.

Su Kexin waited for the bus, feeling bored with nothing better to do. She did not notice the black saloon car drive past her slowly.

Inside the car, Zhang Heng the assistant could not help but glance at Su Kexin outside the window.

"Young Master Gu," he could not help but say. "Shouldn't we give Miss Su… I mean, Madam, a ride?"

"No need for that." On the other hand, Gu Chi did not look out of the window. He just stared at the laptop on his lap, his fingers quickly tapping on the keyboard and his expression cold.

"Can I ask you something, Young Master Gu?" After some internal conflict, Zhang Heng finally blurted out again.

Only then did Gu Chi look up from the screen and say calmly, "You want to ask me why I chose her, right?"

"Yeah." Zhang Heng looked like he had been holding it in for a while. "That woman is just so plain. I investigated her earlier, and her history is…"

Zhang Heng really did not understand it. What did Young Master Gu see in that Su Kexin?

After all, every one of the young ladies that Young Master Gu met earlier was all infinite times better than Su Kexin in terms of looks, background, and manners.

Gu Chi did not respond to Zhang Heng immediately. He just tilted his head, turning his cold gaze on Su Kexin outside the window.

She was on the phone, and she seemed to hear something that made her extremely happy. Her lips curved into a huge smile, and even her eyes narrowed into crescents.

The corners of Gu Chi's lips lifted slightly as well at the sight of her.

"It's because…" After a long time, Gu Chi finally spoke slowly in lieu of a reply to Zhang Heng's question. "...I hate troublesome women, and I hate women with a motive even more."

Zhang Heng was stunned.

"It just so happens that she is neither of those two."

Just then, the car drove past the bus stop and left Su Kexin far, far behind.
