Chapter 8

After Su Kexin arrived at the bus stop, she immediately called the company's human resources department.

"I should be able to change my household registration to S City really soon, so when can I confirm my medical insurance? Yes, not my own, but the one that includes my family members. Yeah, my mom's in the hospital."

Su Kexin talked to HR over the phone for a bit and finally settled the matter of her insurance.

After she hung up, she heaved a long sigh of relief.

Although the marriage today was a little hasty, at least she had finally solved the problem she had been most worried about.

Once her household registration was done and she had her insurance, her mother's medical fees would be assured.

The bus arrived soon enough, and Su Kexin Kexin headed right back to the company.

Her marriage had been far too efficient, so by the time she arrived back at the company, it was not even time for the afternoon interview yet. While she had some free time, she took the card Gu Chi had given her and went to the mall next to the company.

They were married, after all, so a ring was still necessary. However, Su Kexin had no idea how well off Gu Chi was, so she just chose the cheapest and simplest design. She bought a pair and put one on, while she kept the other one carefully into its box before finally going to work.

After she took her seat in the company, Su Kexin got ready to read the file on the interview that afternoon. Just then, Xiao Mei and Sis Zheng from the office suddenly slid their chairs over to her, their eyes sparkling as they asked, "Kexin, what's with the ring?"

Su Kexin paused, and her gaze also turned to the dazzle on her finger. She could not help but burst out laughing.

"You guys sure have sharp eyes." Su Kexin did not intend to hide it. After all, the company's HR department knew that she had switched her household registration areas, so everyone would soon hear about her marriage. "I got married."

"Heck, so suddenly?" Sis Zheng's eyes widened into saucers, but she quickly added, "Kexin, congrats!"

Su Kexin smiled, but next to her, Xiao Mei was already considering the design of the ring on her finger.

"Sis Kexin, did Brother-in-law give you this?" Xiao Mei brought her head very close, but when she saw the ring on Su Kexin's finger, her brow furrowed. "Oh no, the diamond doesn't look very big, does it? How much does it cost?"

Su Kexin had chosen the cheapest design to begin with, and it only had an inlay of melee diamonds. She had no intention of boasting meaninglessly, either, so she said honestly, "It's only slightly over a thousand."

Xiao Mei frowned even more deeply now.

"That won't do, Sis Kexin," she said seriously. "This ring represents your marriage. If the man won't even buy you a slightly better ring, how can you rely on him?"

Su Kexin smiled without saying anything. She knew that girls Xiao Mei's age really emphasized pride and luxury, but to Su Kexin as she was now, something like a ring did not matter at all.

"We buy what we can afford," Su Kexin replied nonchalantly. Xiao Mei and Sis Zheng looked at her with some pity in their eyes now, probably because they thought her husband was not at all well to do.

To be honest, though, Su Kexin did not know how Gu Chi really was financially.

Then again, she did not care.

"Alright, forget all that." Su Kexin did not want to stay on this topic. "How are the preparations for the interview this afternoon?"

"Haha, I'm 100% ready!" As expected, Su Kexin's words managed to divert Xiao Mei's attention. She said excitedly, "Look at me, Sis Kexin! Aren't I pretty today?"

When she said that, Su Kexin finally noticed that Xiao Mei was wearing a pastel pink suit and a short skirt. She had evidently put some effort into her hair as well.

"Very pretty." Su Kexin did not hold back with her praise.

Xiao Mei was even happier now, her eyes sparkling bright. "Then, Sis Kexin, do you think that golden bachelor from Shenyuan Fund would fall for me?"

Su Kexin blinked and finally understood why Xiao Mei put so much effort into looking good today. That was the person they were going to interview that afternoon.
