Death's Bride

She sat on the car seat, gazing out the window as the road became familiar. The morning was suddenly cold and uncomfortable, and her stomach was churning and burning at the thought that she was returning to him.

Sure was the worst way to get your hopes smashed to pieces; she shut her eyes so she couldn't feel the car swerving back to the manor.

But it only made her feel the burn on her cheeks the more, and it felt sore against the car that she had to sit up, forcing her neck to stay still.

This was the shortest journey she had ever been on, even though the quickest route was taken. When Maya saw the gate of the manor, she retreated into her emotionless self. It was the only part that could survive him.

He was on the patio waiting, and when he saw the car drive by, he only stood by, watching the car park to the side of the compound.

Honestly I thought she was a bit smarter than this as an investigative journalist but she is astonishingly stupid. If she doesn’t want to marry him she could just tell the truth…
