“I’m fine,” I said, sitting up. “The doctor said I was fine. Is she still here?” I asked.

“No,” Ace shook his head.

“So you found her?” I looked down, playing with my thumbs. “She seems nice.”

“She is nothing but nice,” he scoffed, and I gave him a look. I suddenly felt protective of her even after chasing her away like that. She was still my mother.

“So her name is Cecelia,” I said. “Where was she all this time?”

“I think it’s best if you have that conversation with her,” he said, looking away.
