Chapter 2

Autor: Cutie Kitty
The second I stepped outside, Liam hurried after me. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me into a dressing room.

Before I could react, he had me backed against the wall, one hand tilting my chin up. The cold distance from earlier was gone, replaced by the familiar affection in his eyes.

"What's wrong? Jealous, babe?"

He teased me the same way he always did. He looked and sounded like the Liam I remembered, but somehow, things between us didn't feel the same anymore.

When I didn't answer, Liam seemed to assume I was angry.

He said gently, "Don't get the wrong idea, Natalie. Victoria's pregnant, and she can't exactly go home and tell her family she got pregnant before she was married.

"I only agreed to go along with the proposal so she'd have something to tell her parents and wouldn't have to deal with everyone judging her."

Liam only rambled like this when he felt guilty and was trying too hard to justify himself.

And even if the whole thing really was just for show, why did it have to be him? Victoria could've asked someone who was actually single. Why choose Liam when she knew perfectly well he already had a girlfriend?

He was so worried about Victoria being judged, yet it had never crossed his mind that I had been dealing with people's judgment too.

Because Liam had refused to make our relationship public, all our neighbors still thought I was single. Every time they saw me, they joked that if I didn't find someone soon, I'd end up an old maid.

I looked at Liam calmly. His excuse was so flimsy that I couldn't even be bothered to argue.

Instead, I turned away and said flatly, "I'm not feeling well. If that's all, I'm going home. You should get back too. Leaving your fiancée alone to come after me doesn't exactly look good."

Liam frowned, irritation creeping into his voice. "I came after you to explain, and you're still making a scene? You're a woman too. You should have some sympathy for Victoria.

"Would you really rather stand by and watch everyone tear her apart for getting pregnant out of wedlock? I never knew you could be this heartless. Natalie, I'm disappointed in you."

I almost laughed. All the disappointment I'd been holding back finally boiled over.

"I'm heartless? What about Victoria? She knew you were my boyfriend, but she still insisted on having you pretend to be her fiancé. How is that any less heartless?"

Liam knew he was in the wrong. His jaw tightened before he snapped, "You're twisting everything around. There's no talking to you!"

With that, he stormed out and slammed the door behind him.

The moment he was gone, I crumpled to the floor. It felt like a knife had been driven straight through my heart, and I could barely breathe through the pain.

I couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears streamed down my face, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make them stop.

Liam had never treated me this way before. He had always been patient and gentle, the kind of man who put my feelings first.

Once, I casually mentioned that I hated the seeds in dragon fruit. After that, he sat there with a toothpick, picking them out one by one before cutting the fruit into pieces and feeding it to me.

Whenever I washed my hair and was too lazy to dry it, Liam would grab the blow-dryer himself. He'd tease me for being lazy while patiently drying my hair for me.

But now, he had lost his temper and yelled at me because of Victoria.

The truth couldn't have been more obvious. He had never gotten over her.

And now that I thought about it, maybe he'd kept our relationship secret for so long because he'd been waiting for Victoria to come back all along.

Meanwhile, I had stupidly waited five years for him.

Once I had cried myself out, I wiped my face and rested a hand over my lower abdomen. Then I forced myself to my feet and left.

Liam didn't know it, but I had a surprise planned for him that day too.

I was three months pregnant. I had thought we were finally going to build a life together. Instead, he had betrayed me.

Fine. I would get an abortion and cut every last tie between us.

I took a cab straight to the hospital.

But the moment I reached the entrance, I saw Liam and Victoria, still dressed up from the proposal. Victoria was clutching her stomach in pain while Liam hovered beside her, frantic.

"Doctor, my wife fell coming down the stairs. Please, you have to save our baby!"

My mind went blank. I stopped dead in my tracks.

Arthur said, "I heard something sweet can cheer you up. My treat. Have as much as you want."I smiled at him. "Um, thank you. For what you did back there, and for this."Arthur smiled back. "Still so polite with me, Nattie?"Nattie? The familiar nickname made me freeze. I took a closer look at him.I hadn't really gotten a good look at him before, but now that I had, something clicked. His eyes and features looked unmistakably familiar.Arthur was my childhood best friend, the boy I had grown up with before he moved abroad years ago. He had always called me "Nattie," and I had called him "Artie."We had grown up together and were practically inseparable until we finished high school. Then Arthur's family suddenly moved overseas.Everything happened so quickly that we never even got the chance to exchange contact information before he left. After that, we lost touch. Then I got together with Liam, and he became the center of my world. Little by little, Arthur faded from my thou

"You're Ms. Elling, right? I'm Arthur Floyd.""Nice to meet you."I couldn't explain why, but something about him felt oddly familiar. He handed me the menu and told me to order whatever I wanted. I had just started looking through it when someone suddenly rushed over."Natalie, you're my girlfriend. How can you go on a date with another man behind my back?"Every head in the restaurant turned, and people immediately started watching the drama unfold. Before I could react, Liam stormed over, grabbed my wrist, and tried to drag me away. "Come home with me!"I immediately yanked my hand free. "Let go. We broke up a long time ago!"Liam only tightened his grip. "I never agreed to the breakup, so it doesn't count. Natalie, I know you're still angry with me because we lost the baby, but we can have another one."Come on, stop being stubborn and come home with me."Across from me, Arthur froze. "A baby? Natalie, you were pregnant?"Liam immediately wrapped an arm around me, lookin

After that, Liam started contacting me from a new number, desperately trying to win me back."Natalie, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please come back."Babe, I miss you so much. I'm going crazy without you!"I ignored every single message. Funny how sorry he was now, when it was already too late.I blocked the new number without hesitation. There was no chance I was ever going back to him.I thought that would finally make Liam give up. Instead, he showed up at my house. I had just gotten home from work when I spotted a familiar figure waiting outside."Liam? What are you doing here?"The moment he saw me, he hurried over and pulled a cup of hot chocolate from beneath his coat. "Here, Natalie. Your favorite. I kept it close so it would stay warm."I froze.Back when we first started dating, he used to do the exact same thing. Whenever he picked me up from work, he'd bring me hot chocolate and tuck it inside his coat to keep it warm. But somewhere along the way, he stopped. At some

Liam was about to leave with Jonah to get a paternity test.Victoria panicked and rushed to stop him. "No, you can't! Liam, Natalie's only saying all this because she's jealous of me. She's trying to come between us. Don't fall for it!"I've never lied to you. Don't you trust me? If you go through with that test, it means you never trusted me or believed in what we had!"Liam stopped, clearly wavering.I wasn't about to let Victoria talk her way out of this. I'd waited far too long to see Liam's reaction when the truth finally came out, so I decided to give her one last push."Why are you so desperate to stop him, Victoria? Got something to hide?"The crowd immediately started murmuring in agreement, and Victoria shot me a vicious glare. In the end, Liam went through with the paternity test anyway, and I tagged along to watch the show. The results came back soon enough. The second Liam read the report, his face darkened with rage. He threw it to the floor and slapped Victoria

A second later, Liam stormed over. He helped Victoria to her feet, scooped the baby up from the floor, then turned and slapped me hard across the face."Natalie, have you lost your mind? You're jealous because Victoria had my baby, so you took it out on him?" he snapped. My face hardened. Without hesitation, I slapped him right back. "I didn't drop the baby. Victoria did it herself to frame me. And I have nothing to be jealous of because that child isn't even yours!"Liam froze, disbelief written all over his face. "What did you say? He's not mine?"He turned to Victoria, a hint of suspicion creeping into his eyes.Victoria went pale and bit her lip, but she recovered almost immediately. Then she threw herself into Liam's arms and clung to him, her voice catching as she spoke."Liam, don't listen to Natalie. How could Jonah not be your son? You were there for me throughout my pregnancy and even when I gave birth! Are you really going to doubt me just because she's trying to come

Soon, all my hard work finally paid off. I passed the exams and earned my management certification, along with several related credentials. With Julian's recommendation, I landed a job as a hotel manager. And of all people to run into on my first day, it had to be Liam and Victoria. They were there to hold a one-month celebration for their baby. That was when it hit me that Victoria had already given birth. Somehow, eight months had flown by.The moment Liam saw me, he raised an eyebrow and gave me a mocking look."Well, what a coincidence, Natalie. So this is where you work now? At the front desk? If you'd just listened to me and married me back then, you could be sitting at home enjoying an easy life right now."Instead, you ended up working as a receptionist."Victoria stood beside him with the baby in her arms, looking just as pleased with herself."I really should thank you, Natalie. If you hadn't stepped aside, I never would've gotten this lucky and ended up with a husban
