When I entered my father's study, my mother and Elissa were already there. They are both sitting on a guest chair, far apart. My mother beckons me to pull up chairs next to her for me and Zalev.

"Alvarez, Elissa just told me that you wanted her out of your apartment last night. You understand that any tension between you is not good for Jonston," my father says, almost punitively. "I suggest you maintain a normal relationship with the mother of your child."
