Chapter 1

My grandma and I were on a perfect beach in Golden Bay. The sun warmed my skin, the sand was soft beneath my feet, and she was resting peacefully nearby.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my mind. A mind link.

It was Brenda. Assistant to my mate, Gideon, the Alpha Heir.

The image she sent was horrifying. An old woman in simple clothes, lying in a pool of her own blood. Deep gashes, down to the bone, from a silver-laced weapon.

Brenda's voice echoed in my head, dripping with arrogance.

“Cora, do you Omegas do anything but freeload?”

“Gideon just bought this estate, and you’re already letting your pack-leeching relatives squat here? As the Alpha’s assistant, it's my duty to protect his land from trespassers.”

“This is what happens when you trespass on an Alpha’s private property!”

I froze. I looked over at the sun umbrella. My grandma, Maria, was napping peacefully.

I replayed the image from the link. My blood ran cold.

That face… bloody and broken, but I knew it. I would never mistake it.

It wasn't my grandmother.

It was Eleonora. Gideon’s grandmother.

A rival pack had attacked her months ago. Her wolf was weakened.

She was in a pack clinic. Her mind-link was damaged. She could only receive, not send.

Today… she was supposed to come home.

I pushed back against the link with all my strength. “Brenda, are you insane? Look who you hit! That's Eleonora! Gideon's grandmother!”

Brenda cut the link. Her last words were cold and stupid.

“Gideon made it clear. Your family is your problem. His family is his. He doesn’t claim trash like them.”

...

The link snapped. My wolf howled in my chest, a cry of pure agony.

Gideon's grandmother. Tortured to death with a silver-laced weapon by Brenda. And Brenda thought she'd killed my "poor relative."

I shot to my feet, knocking my lounge chair onto the sand.

"Cora?" My grandma, Maria, opened her eyes, her face full of worry.

"Grandma, I have to go. Now."

My voice shook. My fingers were ice-cold as I booked the first flight back to the pack lands.

Ticket booked, I immediately linked Gideon.

“Gideon! Listen to me, something happened! Brenda attacked someone at the estate with a silver weapon! It’s your grandmother! She’s hurt badly, you have to go—”

“Enough.”

His cold voice cut me off.

“I know. And I think Brenda did the right thing.”

What?

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My wolf snarled, confused and hurt by his words.

“What did you say?”

“Cora, that’s enough.” His voice was full of disgust, of condescending frustration. “Your Omega family has no shame. They’re always using you to climb the ladder. It's about time someone taught them a lesson in blood. I should be thanking Brenda.”

My heart hammered in my chest. “Gideon! The one she beat was your—”

“ENOUGH!”

His Alpha roar slammed through the link, nearly knocking the breath from my lungs.

“Cora, has jealousy driven you insane? My grandmother is still at the pack clinic. Tonight’s Moon Goddess Blessing is to celebrate her coming home. And you’re making up vicious lies, cursing my grandmother, just to drag Brenda’s name through the mud? What kind of sick game is this?”

His mocking tone made him a stranger.

“Your jealousy disgusts me, Cora! Brenda contributes to this pack. You attack her because she’s getting the respect she deserves! You’re just letting your greedy Omega family run wild!”

I opened my mouth, but no words came out. A deep, cold sadness filled me.

My grandmother, Maria, had a heart of gold. She treated Gideon like her own son.

When a rival pack nearly killed him, it was my grandma who gave him our family's treasured moonpetal herb and saved his life.

She would bake him honey cakes and travel for miles, just because he once said he liked them.

And now…

To him, this good woman... was a greedy freeloader who deserved a lesson.

Beside me, Grandma Maria squeezed my hand, her eyes full of pain for me.

I tried one last time, my voice tight. “Gideon, she's hurt badly. You need to send her to the pack hospital. After all, she…”

"An Omega that worthless? She's better off dead." Gideon’s voice turned to ice. "I'm busy. I'm preparing the Blessing for my grandmother's return. I don't have time for your pathetic drama."

The link died.

I stood frozen on the beach, the sea breeze doing nothing to chase away the chill in my soul.

He didn't believe me. It didn't matter. I had to get back.

But as I boarded the plane, a notification popped up from the pack's social network.

It was a new post from Gideon.

"Preparing to welcome our beloved former Luna, Eleonora. A true Alpha always knows how to respect their elders."

The picture showed the lavish decorations at the estate. Gold ribbons, crystal chandeliers, a sea of white roses.

The likes were pouring in.

The comments were all from pack nobles, fawning over him:

"Gideon is the perfect grandson!"

"That's the devotion an Alpha should have!"

"The former Luna will be so touched!"

I couldn't read anymore. I slammed my phone shut.

The irony was sickening.

He preached respect for elders online. But in private, he praised his grandmother's murderer.

He was preparing a grand welcome for a woman who was already lying dead in a pool of her own blood.

I closed my eyes, my wolf pacing, frantic.

What would he do, this "devoted" Alpha Heir, when he found out Brenda had tortured his own grandmother to death?

Three days later, the trial began in the great hall of the pack elders.Conrad sat on the main dais, his face like stone. He watched his son being led before the court, his own eyes full of pain."Gideon Blackwood, you are accused of the murder of Brenda. The evidence is clear. How do you plead?"Gideon knelt in the defendant's box, gaunt and broken. He looked up, his empty eyes meeting his father's."I am guilty."The elders whispered among themselves. No one expected him to confess so directly."Do you understand the gravity of your crime?" the eldest of the council asked."I do."Gideon's voice was frighteningly calm. "I killed Brenda. I also caused the death of my grandmother. I deserve to die."Conrad closed his eyes and let out a long, heavy sigh."Given the defendant's confession, and taking into account the grave crimes committed by the deceased, Brenda..."The lead elder's voice echoed through the hall."The council sentences Gideon Blackwood to permanent exile. Brenda's insane laughter echoed in the darkness.A demon's curse."You deserve it! You kinslaying bastard!"Her voice grew sharper, more piercing.Every word was a blade twisting in Gideon's heart. His breathing quickened. Something was burning in his chest."It was you..."The words ground out from between his teeth, a low growl."It was all because of you...""What?" Brenda's laughter stopped short."If it wasn't for your stupidity and your greed..." Gideon stood up slowly, his body shaking. "I wouldn't have lost my grandmother! I wouldn't have lost my father's trust! I wouldn't have lost Cora!"His voice grew louder, booming through the dungeon."It was all you! It was all because of you, you damned bitch!"Brenda sensed the danger. Fear crept into her voice. "Gideon... what... what are you doing?""What am I doing?"Gideon let out a chilling laugh."I'm going to kill you!"With that, he charged the cell door. The rusty iron bars groaned under his furious assault. Finally, the gate

The dungeon was cold and damp.No sun.No warmth.Just endless dark and solitude.Gideon huddled in a corner like an abandoned animal.Everything he once had—power, glory, respect—had vanished overnight.Worse, he had lost Cora. The mate bond that had once connected their souls was now just a dead, silent void."Cora..."He whispered her name, trembling, trying to reach her through the shattered link. But only nothingness answered him.Complete and total emptiness. He knew she would never answer him again.Footsteps echoed in the corridor. The jailers, bringing food."Did you hear?" one of them whispered. "The Alpha went down into the Bone Pit himself. To bring back the former Luna's body.""Really?" the other asked."Of course! The whole pack knows! He held a funeral for her with the highest honors!"Gideon's heart seized.Grandma...He pictured her body, mutilated by the silver. He pictured his father's rage and grief, finding her in that disgusting pit."And get this," the first jai

A dead silence fell over the scene.Conrad's face was a terrifying mask. His inner wolf howled in grief, leaving only pure rage."My mother..." he snarled, each word laced with murder. "You threw her in the Bone Pit?"The next second, a world-shattering roar of pure, Alpha fury exploded from him."RAAAAGH!!!"A tsunami of Alpha power crashed over the estate. No one could withstand the terrifying force. They all fell to their knees. The guests were pale, shaking.Brenda fainted on the spot.Even Chloe collapsed, unable to stand. And Gideon's legs gave out. He fell hard to his knees. His mind was blank.Only one phrase echoed over and over: The Bone Pit.The grandmother who had been crippled for life protecting him. The kind old woman who prayed for his safety every day. The former Luna who loved him with her entire being. He had given the order himself.Thrown into the Bone Pit where they dumped their trash."No... no... no..."Gideon clutched his head, letting out an animalistic wail.

My decisiveness stunned everyone.Including Gideon. He stared at my bleeding finger, a flicker of something complex in his eyes.As if he never expected me to cut ties so cleanly. But the feeling was gone in an instant. He quickly put his cold, arrogant mask back on and stepped forward."You venomous Omega," he sneered, his voice dripping with scorn. "If you had just accepted your place, none of this would have happened.""Yes!" Chloe added gleefully. "You should have known your place, Cora! You were never good enough for my brother!"The guests started chattering again."The Alpha heir is finally getting rid of that burden!""He can find a much better mate!""Miss Brenda would be a perfect match!"Gideon walked up to me and held out his hand.A servant respectfully placed the blood-stained dagger in his palm. The silver blade gleamed coldly in the moonlight.Just as he was about to slice his own palm and sever our bond for good—A frantic mind-link exploded in Conrad's head.It was th

Hearing that question, Brenda finally understood. The woman next to Conrad was Cora's grandmother, Maria. Her face went white as a sheet. Her legs started to shake."No... it can't be..."She shook her head wildly. Her voice was a shriek, like a cornered animal."Impossible! The old woman today had to be Cora's grandmother! It had to be!"She pointed a trembling finger at Maria, growing more hysterical."She must be an imposter! Cora hired her to frame me!"A wave of disgust and rage washed over me as I looked at this stupid, vicious woman. Then, the thought of Grandma Eleonora's brutal death drowned me in a tide of grief. That kind old woman. Beaten to death with silver by this fool. And now the murderer was twisting the truth, trying to escape the blame.I opened my mouth to tell Conrad everything. But Brenda was already babbling her defense."I killed a crippled old hag carrying a ratty basket! She was muttering Cora's name, limping like some low-born Omega trash!"She got more and
