Evan pressed Beverly down into the chair.

"Ms. Sinclair, it'll only take a few minutes," Marcus said, glancing nervously at Evan's stony expression. "Considering how my wife helped you before, I hope you won't make things difficult for me."

Beverly remembered how Ava had taken a huge risk to switch out the abortion pill back then. She really had been genuinely kind.

Beverly's heart softened, and she lay back on the bed. Marcus promptly attached the electrodes for the EKG to her chest and limbs.

After giving birth to Esther, Beverly had undergone heart surgery, which had been a complete success. She no longer had any heart problems.

Still, as she watched the monitor slowly trace the rhythm of her heartbeat, she suddenly felt a wave of nervousness. She crossed her hands her chest. The movement didn't go unnoticed by Evan.

Suddenly, the door swung open with a loud bang. Beverly looked over in shock, and the electrodes slipped off her body, prompting the EKG machine to beep loudly.
