Anna's POV

Without haste, I packed my bags, years and years of savings dumped inside the same luggage.

It was pitiful, but it was going to be for now.

Leaving now, meant I was likely to be labeled a rogue, but I don't give a damn.

As long as I was out of here, then I'd take it.

Meeting with Yvonne again, it was an hour to the party. Her hair was a mess, her reading glasses hanging dangerously at the edge of her nose bridge, I feared it would fall the next second.

“Get dressed, and attend the party like usual, I'll come get you.” Was what she said, after collecting my bag and heading to goddess knows where.

Now I was standing at the edge of the podium, my heart pounding as I nervously scanned the room.

The coronation was in full procession, but I barely registered it. Not with all the eyes boring at my skin.

I pressed my lips into a line, careful not to make eye contact with anyone or let them smell my fear.

Werewolves were sensitive creatures, with noses blessed by the goddess herself ,they could smell anything from a mile away, even pregnancy.

It made me wonder how no one noticed the change in my scent.

Was I so good at hiding it, or was I too useless, nobody cared?

“I now pronounce you, Alpha and Luna, of the dark claw pack. You may now rise to get your members.” The elder announced, his loud voice carrying an eerie ring to it, that brought shivers down my spine.

I watched Laura and Gunner rise to their feet, waving to the crowd with similar smiles on their faces.

They looked like such happy couples, that it made me a joke all of a sudden.

I lowered my eyes, feeling a pang in my chest.

Being rejected, pregnant and all alone, I wished the world would just end.

Why must I face this betrayal?

I thought the moon goddess blessed you with a mate who was supposed to love and cherish you,so why was my case so different?

A tear threatened to slip past my eyes, but I held it in.

I promised not to shed a tear, and I won't do it.

Looking up, I unexpectedly locked eyes with Matteó, and I stiffened.

The beta watched me with a knowing grin, his eyes flashing a pale yellow.

Fear crawled into my skin, and I hastingly snapped my head away, my heart racing.

Where was Yvonne?

What was taking her so long?

I had been standing here for who knows how long, and I was starting to dread the unknown as the night grew.

Suddenly, there was a commotion at the front of the hall, a female's excited shriek drawing everyone's attention.

“He's here! Alpha Mattias is here!”

“What?! Where?!”

“At the front. He's coming in!”

Immediately, the crowd grew crazy. Girls frantically fixed themselves up, and the men tried their best to look impressive.

Hearing the name alpha Mattias sparked a massive buzz, but why wouldn't it?

Even I could not hide the faint excitement that bubbled in my chest.

“Have you heard?” A man whispered, his face red with excitement. “I heard Alpha Mattias single handedly took out all the rogues in the area last month.”

“Really? That's so cool!”

“You think that's cool?” Another interjected with a scoff. “I heard that he took out at the hunters in the region making them his slaves.”

“That's terrifying!” The other exclaimed, his eyes going wide in astonishment. “Is this the power owned by the legendary largest pack in the country?”

Gossips flew into the air, but a particular one caught my attention.

“Did you know Alpha Mattias was only sixteen when he took over the pack? He's so powerful, and now he is only in his mid twenties.” A lady gushed, her excited chatter reaching my ears as she spoke to her friend.

“I also heard he hasn't found his mate.” Her friend commented, her eyes glinting with light. “Imagine a powerful alpha as him not having a mate, he must be sad, but I bet one of us would be lucky to be mates to him.”

“Yeah, I hope so.”

I stood rooted, as different versions of stories about alpha Mattias flew into the air, the said man in question nowhere to be found at the time being.

The name alone is already shaking the masses.

“I guess you are wondering how alpha Mattias could show up at a place like this.” Laura suddenly said, making me wonder when she even got close to me.

I looked over at her, now noticing Gunner and his beta were missing.

Seeing as I didn't answer, she continued, “did you know that alpha Mattias is Gunner's cousin?”

I froze, shock filling me.

I did not know that.

In fact, I barely knew anything about Gunner, but the fact that he didn't bother to tell me this, was a slap to my face.

I took a deep breath in, trying to not get distracted.

I needed to escape tonight, and nothing was going to stop me.

Not Gunner, and not his so-called powerful alpha cousin.

Just then, the screams grew louder, and I winced slightly, covering my ears.

The door was filled with people, their previous haughty expressions gone.

I narrowed my eyes, only for me to freeze as I felt my wolf Ava stir restlessly.

Goosebumps pricked my skin, and my heart thumped louder in my chest, my eyes staying glued to the door.

What was going on?

What's wrong with me, and why does this feel all familiar?

Cut it out! I growled, shaking my head to snap Ava out of it, but instead, she grew frantic.

I staggered, feeling my wolf fight for control.

What's wrong with you Ava? I snapped, placing my weight on the wall behind me.

I took a deep breath hoping to calm myself, but then I smelt it.

I froze, my eyes widening in shock, as the acid scent of spices and cold mint hit my nose.

“Impossible!” I cried, whipping my head up, only to lock eyes with him.

Standing in the sea of bodies, he stood a head taller than everyone, his cold face devoid of emotions, his majestic aura demanding respect— different from Gunner's intimidating ones.

He stood like a tree, his green kiwi eyes resting on me like he knew.

Fuck, not again.

“Mate!” Ava chanted, and I knew I was fucked.

  • You rejected your Luna: One Chance is all you Get.    Chapter 88

Laura’s POVThe bed felt emptier than usual this morning.I stared at the side of the bed beside me, the space where Gunner usually slept — or at least pretended to. But this morning? It was just cold sheets and a quiet room. No sign of him.I frowned and kept my gaze on a particular spot as if my visualization of him would make me appear there. But not even a hint of his presence came. Getting to the side of the bed, I looked around the room, hoping I'd catch him probably reading or working on something else. But there was no one but me. The silence felt heavy. Then my eyes singled out something on the desk—a price of paper, casually placed and folded as if it was a leftover. Someone definitely placed it there on purpose. Curiosity fueled me to go ahead and pick it up. It was a note from James, gummer's beta. I unfolded it carefully. The words scrawled on the paper hit me like a slow wave crashing in the distance and then coming closer.James’s words weren’t the polite, formal

  • You rejected your Luna: One Chance is all you Get.    Chapter 87

Yvonne’s POV I wasn’t exactly trying to eavesdrop.Okay… maybe I was.It was when I saw Mattias moving away from the crowd, his tall frame couldn't make him fit, though he moved with purpose. At first, I thought he probably wanted to excuse himself to catch a minute to himself outside before rejoining the event. But, when I saw Selena follow after him, I knew she wanted to salvage the moment. Now, Selena isn’t the kind of woman you see walking beside a man for casual chit-chat. There’s always a reason. And knowing her, it’s not usually a harmless one.My curiosity didn’t even give me a choice. I tailed them before I had agreed to do so in my mind. I moved slower, with lighter steps too, moving through the guests like a human string. No one gave me attention. Everyone was busy celebrating to care about me or where I was headed.Mattias and Selena were ahead of me with a couple of steps. After, they turned a corner that took them to the other end of the hall—away from anyone el

Mattias’ POVAnger fueled my reaction—I held my glass tighter than before. If I had put anymore force in my grip, it could've easily shattered. But I didn't have any intention of causing a scene. I didn't care about the attention I'd gather, if anything, I was use to getting it. But, the energy to deal with questions wasn't in me. On the other end, the proclaimed Luna sat there, keeping her posture perfect with a look I couldn't decode. I hadn't made up my mind which emotion I should display if I looked at her. Was it pride or curiosity? Or should she stir up a sense of duty in me? Nothing. That was the problem. I didn't feel any emotion. Not even a slight stir from my wolf or a twitch of recognition. She probably could also be a stranger who got lost in the streets. But when I thought of Anna… it was like something deep in my chest pulled tight. My wolf’s ears would perk up immediately. My mind… it just kept circling back to her, again and again. It didn’t matter how many days

  • You rejected your Luna: One Chance is all you Get.    CHAPTER 85

Yvonne’s POVI wasn’t exactly sure why I agreed to Anna’s request. Actually, scratch that—I knew why. It was Anna, shutting out her feelings as if they where toxins. Even then, as I left where we use to met, and walked back to the pack house, doubt accompanied me. Was I supposed to do as they wanted and follow through? The agreement sounded simple enough when Anna told it to me, but now that I walked on my own, I couldn't be so sure of what she had said then. I had no real business poking around in the Luna’s introductions, and I definitely had no desire to get caught in something awkward. It took me nearly an hour to find my way back. You’d think I’d know my way around by now, but no. The pack house was tucked into a corner of the territory where the paths split too many times to count. I was sure I had turned the wrong way atleast twice since I passed by the same row of trees and also a group a children who saw me as walk by earlier still there. One of them waves at me, “Hello, ar

  • You rejected your Luna: One Chance is all you Get.    Chapter 84

Anna’s POVI woke up to a strange heaviness sitting in my chest. It wasn’t just the weight of my body or the baby pressing down; it was something else. A kind of ache I couldn’t name.It wasn’t my own pain—not completely.I’d learned to recognize when something was mine and when it was… his. The bond between Mattias and me had never been something I could switch off, no matter the distance or the silence between us. And right now, that bond was whispering things to me, little fragments of his mood.He wasn’t happy.I didn’t know why, but I could feel it as clearly as I could feel the fabric of my sheets under my fingers. Unease. Frustration. Something cold curling around the edges of his thoughts. I rolled onto my side, breathing out slowly. If something serious had happened, he would have come for me.Wouldn’t he?That was what my heart insisted. But my head—oh, my head didn’t trust so easily anymore. The bond felt intact. He was alive. Breathing. Fine. Just… not fine in a way I coul

  • You rejected your Luna: One Chance is all you Get.    CHAPTER 83

Mattias’ POVThis was the third time I stared at my reflection, but it didn't make my feelings of hate towards it change. The suit had been tailored specifically as a reminder to me that I didn’t belong in it even though it was a perfect fit—it's collar, the ironed sleeves with gators, the way the dark colo still shimmered in the mirror —it was a different me. I never fancied playing dress up. I never liked pretending. Tonight was even more of a challenge because I was doing both dressed up and pretending much more than I had ever done. Lucas rested his shoulder on against the wall behind me and our gaze met through the mirror. No comment. No attempt to convince me I looked fine. Maybe because he knew I’d just argue with him. Maybe because he agreed but wouldn’t admit it out loud.“I don't like it,” I muttered, using my finger like a hook to tug at it, easing the feeling of suffocation. “Then don’t wear it.” He said, carefreely. That almost made me laugh. Almost. “Right. You want
