Chapter 3

Author: Wooden Blade
Soon, everyone arrived at the locked iron door. Luke, who had always been hot-tempered, aimed a kick at it right away.

"Lorraine, do you really think we'll spare you if you stay silent? In that case, you'd better stay in the silver mine for the rest of your life!"

There wasn't any movement whatsoever coming from the silver mine.

Leo's expression was very thunderous. "Looks like she's bent on staying stubborn till the very end! Open the door! Since Lorraine insists on being defiant, she can just live in the silver mine!"

With a pout on his face, Rupert dug out a key from his pocket.

My brothers gazed down at the silver mine, which was actually a deep pit.

"Lorraine, we're giving you one last chance. Do you know where your faults lie this time?" Leo's intimidating voice echoed all the way to the bottom of the mine.

"You committed a grave sin by poisoning your own family! Get your ass here right now if you don't want to die inside the mine!"

Ryan wore a look of unwavering justice, his eyes cold as ice.

"As long as you apologize to Selena and swear on your bloodline that you will never bully her ever again, we'll let you go this time."

Everyone waited for a while, yet I never responded to them. By then, Luke was already furious to the point he had a vein popping out of his forehead.

"Lorraine Wilde, do you really think we won't punish you? It seems that we've spoiled you rotten in the past! Your arrogance and disrespect knows no bounds!"

Rupert joined in on the mockery. "Lorraine, do me a favor and act sensibly this time. Without you around, Selly would still be nice to me. But without us, you'll be reduced to an unwanted mutt. In other words, you'll become a Rogue stripped of your pack affiliation! You'll die a gruesome death!"

Leo's patience had officially run out.

"You forced our hand this time, Lorraine! Don't regret this!"

He stomped forcefully, resounding in a loud crack. The ground beneath him splintered instantly as web-like cracks spread from his soles.

Still, I never reacted to the ruckus.

That was when my brothers finally realized that something was wrong.

Leo glared at Rupert angrily. "Did you not lock the door properly? Lorraine might have escaped from the mine!"

Rupert was very sure that the iron door was properly locked. Moreover, the key had been with him the whole time. I didn't have a chance to escape at all.

Ryan had a look of disdain. "The pit might be deep, but anyone could climb out of it after putting in some effort. That brat has always been cunning. Maybe she's long since escaped from the mine without us knowing."

Luke ground his teeth in response. "Man, we've really underestimated her. We should've bound her with chains instead of ropes. I'd like to see how she can escape from those chains!"

It was then Rupert spoke up. "Hold on. Given Lorraine's slyness, she might wait for us to leave the mine before making her escape."

Leo's expression grew grave at Rupert's words. After approaching the pit, he stuck his head out a little. That was when he caught a whiff of something weird.

Uneasiness crossed his eyes at that moment. That smell… It resembled the smell of a werewolf being reduced to ashes by silver powder.

I just smiled sadly.

My brothers were right. Even if my limbs were all tied up, I'd be able to free myself by exerting some strength. The pit might be deep, but I could climb out of it at the cost of some stamina.

But they had forgotten that I had sustained severe injuries in the past. I could no longer draw any strength from my legs, so I couldn't climb out of the pit.

They didn't care about me anyway. After all, they thought I was lying about my legs just so I could get them to love and care about me.

Had they put more faith in me from the start, things wouldn't have progressed to this point.

Luke, Ryan, and Rupert approached the mine as well. Naturally, they all detected the smell.

After some hesitation, Rupert said, "Why does it smell like…"

Luke just sneered. "It must be a smokescreen she had set up just to trick us into thinking that she's dead. As if we'll let the whole thing slide even if that happens! Well, she can forget about it!"

Disappointment filled Leo's eyes. "Lorraine, we've had enough of your tricks! We've given you a chance! Since you refuse to cooperate with us, don't blame us for being harsh to you!"

Luke grabbed a rock before tossing it into a pit. Still, I never reacted.

He mocked, "You seriously think we're that stupid, huh? Let's see how long you can last down there!"

Meanwhile, Ryan told Rupert to look for a searchlight.

My brothers tried getting closer to the mine. The closer they were, the stronger the smell became. It became very suffocating at one point.

The weak beam of light kept traveling down the pit. Just like that, the cramped space, which was about 40 square feet wide, was presented before their eyes.

At first, the witch refused to give up any information. But she finally spat out the truth after failing to endure my brothers' harsh interrogation.Terrified, she pointed at Selena. "It's her! She was the one who instructed me to sever the mind link between you and your sister! She was also the one who took the silver powder from me!"Your sister, Lorraine, is already dead! She died in this very mine!"Panic overcame Selena. She tried to defend herself. "You evil woman! I don't even know you! Why did you frame me instead?"The witch covered her bruised face. "You've always harbored malicious intentions from the start because you wanted to frame Lorraine. You kept visiting me for more tips on how to drive a wedge between her and her brothers so that you could replace her and have her brothers' love all to yourself!"For example, Selena laced the cake with wolfsbane on purpose and framed me for wanting to poison her. Another example would be Selena burning herself before claiming

Selena had no idea what happened to the trio. Still, she had a bad feeling about it.Ryan's tone became venomous. "But it wasn't Lorraine—it was Selena."Leo and the others turned to glare at Selena simultaneously. Ryan was completely filled with guilt at the moment. "We… We misunderstood Lorraine. This has nothing to do with her…"Where's Lorraine? Have you found her yet?"The trio found it difficult to tell Ryan the truth."I'm asking you all a question here! Do you have any news on her? I must apologize to her!"Ryan had always been an introverted werewolf. His only pastime involved gathering beautiful snake specimens. There was once when I had gotten bitten no less than 20 times just to capture a tropical snake that had a unique appearance for him.The snake was still caged up in my room, seeing as I had yet to find an opportunity to give it to Ryan. He'd be so elated that he couldn't sleep at all."What happened to Lorraine? Just hurry up and tell me already! What happen

Having appeared all of a sudden, Selena began making her way toward Leo."Leo, how could you do this to—"A loud slap rang out in the mine."Shut up! I don't want to see you right now!"Selena cradled her cheek as fresh tears rolled down her face. This time, she was crying for real.Leo didn't hold back in that slap. Right now, her cheek was all red and swollen. She shrank away from Leo before retreating to the wall. "Tell me if I did something wrong. If you don't want to see me ever again, I can leave right now."But please… don't act like this, okay? I'm very worried about you…"This time, no one cared about Selena's pitiful act."Get lost! Don't touch those things!"Leo shoved the cleaners away before sinking down to his knees. My clothes were reduced to a pile of charred remains. Even my family crest was completely warped and blackened from the fire.As Leo picked up my crest, he could feel his hands shaking terribly. After placing the crest onto his palm, he kept straig

At the moment, Leo wore a stormy expression. The only difference was that the brutal and dark glint in his eyes had already disappeared. Now, he looked dazed. He just stared at a certain point. Suddenly, he looked like he just recalled something."Lorraine…"Confused, Selena tried to place her hand on Leo's shoulder. But he swatted her hand away forcefully before she could touch him."H-How could I have forgotten all that…" he murmured.Precisely. How could he have forgotten that? How could he have forgotten the way I had rushed to the front lines with him with no regard for the looming danger? How I had rushed before him and fought for our pack's survival? No matter how dire the situation was, I never abandoned him. I'd protect and defend him with my life."Leo, this pack can still go on without me, but it can't survive without you. It's my utmost honor to fight for you."Tears flowed down Leo's cheeks uncontrollably. His expression soon contorted into one of pain. It was t

Selena covered her nose and mouth, discomfort evident on her face. She pretended to feel ill after inhaling the fumes.Alarmed, Leo scooped her into his arms and rushed out of the mine. Luke and the others followed suit."Damn that Lorraine! She still refuses to spare you even after escaping from this place! She sure is malicious!"Then, Leo summoned his guards and ordered them to search for me in all the places that I might go. "If she dares to resist, do everything in your power to drag her back, even if it means breaking her bones by force."Leo rubbed his hands eagerly. He couldn't wait to make my life hell after I was brought back to him.I just chuckled bitterly at the sight. Leo must have forgotten.Yeah. He must have completely forgotten those years when we fought to protect our home and ensured our survival. Back then, I had followed him. I did everything for him and rushed to the front lines with him. No matter how dire the situation was, I would never abandon him,

My corpse was already corroded into a pile of blood and bones. What was left of me had already soaked through the earth, thus disappearing from the pit. Other than the rocks and the ropes that once bound me, my clothes, as well as an iron crest, were left on the ground. The crest I wore was the family crest. The logo, signifying the five wolves of the Wilde family, was engraved on the crest. When a pack member died, the other pack members would take turns wearing their crest. It was their way of remembering the dead forever.A careful look at the clothes would show tiny pieces of glass, stained with a bluish-green liquid, stuck to them.I still held onto a trace of hope that my brothers could uncover the truth. I hoped that they could believe me just this once.At least, it would prove that they still cared about me.Unfortunately, reality just had to snuff out my last bit of hope.Leo went pale. "Shit! She actually escaped from the mine!"Luke and Ryan, on the other hand, coul
