Chapter Thirty-Nine: Testing...Testing...Is This Thing On?

I sipped my newly refilled cool drink as I walked out of the dim hallway.

“My lady,” Vincent called.

 He was the first person I spotted in the busy ballroom filled with mingling couples, but perhaps that was because he stood close to the hallway that I was set to emerge from.

 I know that that was just a minor detail, but I found myself smiling at him, it felt nice having a knight or rather, to have someone wait on me.

I couldn’t tell if it was the wine that had elevated my mood or the lively conversation; either way, the first thing I did was tease him.

“You said to only stay away from Bryant and Dominic, you never mentioned that you were incapable of handling the Marquis,” I said, crossing my arms playfully over the fabric of my dress. 

The feel of the smooth fabric rubbing against my skin exhilarated me, because, with every movement, the dress clung to my curves, reminding me of fun nights out
