Renna's POV.

I absolutely don't know what to do with myself today.

The house was too big, too clean, like it didn’t even need me. Every time I lifted a hand to do something, one of the house staff appeared out of nowhere and gently took over.

“Mrs. Carter, I’ll take care of that,” they’d say with polite smiles, and I’d just stand there awkwardly, holding a dishcloth or a feather duster like a misplaced decoration.

This wasn’t Hayes’s house.

There, I did everything. Cooked, cleaned, served, fixed, smiled, and still got told I wasn’t enough.

This wasn’t my father’s house either, where every chore came with a reminder that I should be grateful to be fed at all. That I was a burden. A charity case.

This… this was different.

Landon’s house wasn’t just a house. It was a world. A world that didn’t expect me to bend until I broke, and despite how hard I tried to stop myself from admitting it... I'm really enjoying my stay so far.

I tried to read a book, but I couldn’t concentrate. I tried to

Eva's POV.I woke up to an empty side of the bed. For a second, I just lay there, staring at the faint morning light leaking through the curtains. The house was quiet. I glanced at the clock. Almost eight. Which could only mean one thing.“He’s gone to work,” I muttered under my breath, stretching lazily before rolling off the bed.For the umpteenth time since I’d been here, I’d slept really deeply; it has been my usual routine since my time here, and slowly I was getting used to it... Getting used to the peace and surreal calmness.I haven't had any nightmares in a long time, no tossing and turning. Just… Peace. Maybe it was the ridiculously soft bed, or maybe it was knowing I didn’t have to wake up and immediately start scrubbing dishes before someone yelled at me.Either way, I felt oddly good.I shuffled into the bathroom, still a bit drowsy, and turned on the shower. The water hit the tiles with a fast flow, and steam began to curl through the air.I stripped, tossing my nightg

Renna's POV.I woke up to the sound of his voice. Not the playful, infuriating drawl I’d gotten used to, this one was surprisingly rigid, clipped with authority. For a second, I thought I was dreaming, because there was no way that version of Landon existed in real life. But when I blinked my eyes open, sunlight spilling through the curtains, I saw him, standing by the huge window, phone pressed to his ear, shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his tie hanging loose.“I don’t care what the board said, Mason. That deal goes through by noon. If he tries to pull out, tell him I’ll buy the whole damn company and replace him myself.”His tone was icy, and it sent a strange chill down my spine. Gone was the man who couldn’t finish a meal without finding a reason to tease me, this was someone else entirely. He paused, listening to the person on the other end, then smirked slightly. “Good. Make sure the documents are ready before I get there. And Mason... ” his voice dropped a little, softer

Renna's POV.Halfway through the drive home, we made a quick stop at the mall... It was totally uncalled for, but Landon never seized to amaze me; we were practically driving past the mall when his eyes caught sight of a pretty dress on display and quickly pulled over to get it for me.It was a mixed feeling of both appreciation and confusion for me because no one has ever done a thing like that for me, and need I even talk about how freely he did it like it was the barest minimum? “Do you ever stop trying to make an impression?” I asked, stopping beside him, as we watched the valet rush to bring his car immediately we walked out.Excuse my sorry ass for sounding so unappreciative, but this is really all new to me. He flashed me his regular sly smirk. "An impression you say? It's far from it kitten, I just enjoy watching you blush when I take care of you." “What? I haven't blushed a single time all night,” I snapped, crossing my arms.“Oh, you did,” he murmured, leaning closer so t

Renna's POV.The car slowed to a stop, and I was still not over the fact that Landon actually picked me up to take me out; I have never experienced that before in my life. When I looked out the window, my heart did a tiny, traitorous flip. The restaurant was extraordinarily fancy, the entire building was almost made of glass that radiated so elegantly, there was a valet waiting by the curb. I blinked a few times, wondering if we were lost.“This is the place?” I asked, raising a brow.He didn’t even glance at me. Just smirked as he parked and unbuckled his seat belt. “I told you I have taste, sweetheart.”“Sweetheart,” I muttered under my breath, rolling my eyes. “That word should be illegal coming from your mouth.”He chuckled lowly, flashing me that knowing smirk that always came with him knowing exactly how much he was getting on my nerves. “Careful, Renna. You’ll make people think you secretly like when I call you that.”“Please,” I scoffed, “I’ve heard better sweet talk from sale

Renna's POV.The very first thing I did immediately I opened my eyes... before yawning, before stretching, before even thinking of stepping out of bed was to dart my eyes around the entire room like a paranoid cat, making sure there was no trace of Landon lounging anywhere he had no business being.“Good,” I muttered to myself, sinking back against the pillows with relief.Because I’m not giving him another free show today in my rightful sense.Yesterday’s incident was still fresh in my head, the way his eyes had shamelessly traveled all around me, the smirk tugging at his lips when he knew I’d realized he was standing there. It had been embarrassing, mortifying even, but the worst part? He’d enjoyed it way too much. And judging from how he had teased me at dinner, he wasn’t planning to let me live it down any time soon.So this morning? I was on high alert.I wrapped myself up in my robe, double checked the lock before heading to shower, and even at that , I was still very much on th
