Chapter 5: "Little Sun"

A few days later, the volleyball team's gathering day finally arrived. In the front yard of the gymnasium, new students who applied to the club stood in three different rows, just like when they first recruited people. The most significant number is still the line of applicants for the team, and at least, it's probably where Rosabella is standing.

And she's standing right behind Pearl again!

Pearl is a junior to Louis and Orson, first-year students in the Department of Finance. Compared to Rosabella, Pearl's appearance is somewhat more prominent. Not in a thoughtful way. Pearl looks sweet and lovely. It's like a bit of sun. With a smile, it seemed that all the sunlight surrounded her dance. Bright and beautiful.

Perhaps because of that, plus their sociable and cheerful personality, Pearl always captured everyone's eyes with praise and made the male student lock up in the department of ecstasy.

"Hello, are you also joining the assistant team? I'm Pearl, 1st year of the Department of Finance. Nice to meet you." Seeing Rosabella standing in a frightening place alone, Pearl smiled and said, acquaintance.

Pearl is from New London, so her voice is gentle and easy to hear. Maybe a little Rosabella of friends would be happy if it weren't for her. Unfortunately, Rosabella and Pearl are not on the same front. At least that's what it's for Rosabella.

"I'm Rosabella, a freshman in Accounting. You look so confident. Are you good at volleyball?" Rosabella looked at the enemy before her eyes, pretending to be happy.

"I only know a little, but I like volleyball very much. It's just that our school is more male-volleyball-oriented. Otherwise, I'm going to go soon. I heard next year would also host the women's volleyball team. I want to be an assistant first to learn from experience while secretly watching the men's team practice." Bright, indifferent, Rosabella was just a friend she met less than five minutes ago, chattering about her dream.

Rosabella probably wouldn't hate Pearl if she weren't our Louis competitor. Pearl's thoughtlessness and fondness sometimes made Rosabella jealous. Is it because Pearl has so many things that she can always think positively?

"If there's something you don't understand, don't be afraid to tell me. It's easier for us to communicate with each other." Pearl laughed again, her eyes bent, making the other person feel excited, too.

"Joe Pearl!"

"Yes, I do!" Pearl laughed loudly when she heard her name at the attendance check, then went back to greet Rosabella, held a lollipop in her hand, and then ran away from the gym. "See you later!"

"See you later," Rosabella muttered. Slowly, looking down at the sweet lollipop in her hand, she didn't know what emotion to express. Is it happiness? Is she confused?

It is not challenging to select assistants. The chosen person will receive the most votes from the members and the coach's approval and consent. In her free time, she can also borrow the football field to practice happily with everyone in the club for a while.

After hearing the coach's presentation, the girls who applied for this position were excited. A few people come here because they like it, mainly to see the team members.

Students in New London have a common forum to talk about all schools. To speak about K&Y University, people still accept volleyball and soccer teams as the most beautiful boys. Just in soccer, too many people can't compete, so more people are rushing to apply for volleyball this year.

That's why the well-known attraction to handsome men is always a girl's weakness.

"Okay, everyone has a week to watch, get acquainted with, and work with the team. This weekend, submit everyone's opinion assessment report to me, and I will look at it. My results will account for 50% of whether everyone will be accepted. 50% of the remaining 50% is based on the votes of the official team members. For those on the reserve team, this week will also be the time for me to evaluate everyone. The person who is good at it will be able to compete and replace the existing members officially. Get to work."

After the rule was over, the leading coach began to gather both the official and the reserve teams for practice. They then assigned the captain of the previous year to guide the assistant team to where the ball was placed and the timetable, listing some items and tasks necessary to prepare for people's daily training.

The girls began to stir again when the captain spoke short of all the categories.

"What did the coach say the assessment report was?"

"Don't know, I've never heard of it."

"Do you know how to play this game? I know it's just a lift. That's the easiest."

"It's no better than you. It's hard to understand! I thought it was easy."

"Hey, Rosabella, look, there's much competition." Pearl sat next to Rosabella and looked for things in her bag, pointing to the group, talking, and whispering.

" What are you looking for?"

"I'm looking for a notebook that records what the coach said. I'm afraid of forgetting."

Pearl laughed when she heard that, then she patted Rosabella on the shoulder, devoting herself to preaching.

"Tell you what, most importantly, is the evaluation report you submit over the weekend. In high school, I used to follow the gym teacher to see what he wrote down, so I knew on the report that it was about each team member's performance, like strengths, and weaknesses in competition, then, look, they're running, you know. You can calculate the time and track the person who has good endurance or quick reflexes so that you can choose the right position. Of course, these issues are mostly observation coaches, but it's not bad if you can give more opinions with reasonable numbers. It'll be easier to schedule practice in the future for nationals." Pearl told Rosabella everything she understood, sometimes with a few laughs and jokes.

Now Rosabella understands why, that year when Pearl was chosen as an assistant for the volleyball team, all the team members called him the little sun. Pearl is so bright and so honest.

Rosabella made it to this stage, but did she get through the little sun?

"Are you not afraid that I will compete with you?"

"I'm still going to compete with this many people." Pearl held just one hand around the field, and it had to be more than ten people. “Besides, everyone's perception and judgment are not the same. Way to go!"

In Rosabella's heart, melancholy thoughts about Pearl's bright cheering were a little shaken. She had always avoided contact with Pearl because she felt jealous. Now that we've talked, she seems to find herself agitated again.

Pearl is not as bad as she thinks she is. It's not even someone who relies solely on luck who selfishly takes it.

What should she do about Pearl?
