Aethelfrith's POV

"Wait up, you are too fast, I can't catch up with you." I said to my best friend and brother, Leon while still trying to catch up with him.

"Why should I?See you at the house." He laughed then continued running.

It was a daily routine for Leon and I to run round the forest every morning, we call it keeping fit but in reality we were just trying to train all our senses. I ran as fast as I could to get to the house before Leon.

I entered the house, the maid giving me my face towel and bottle water, Leon following suit.

"That was a good run" Leon hit my chest playfully then chuckled.

"Yep, it could have been if you didn't cheat by using your powers ." I chuckled, dropping my face towel on the table.

"Aren't you going?" Leon aksed

"Going where?" I asked him back

"Today is your mom's death anniversary" Leon said

"Ohh, that's right, today is really Lady Ambrosia's death anniversary but Leon you know I don't attend such occasions" I said, making a playful gesture with my face.

"Aethelfrith,I know you don't go but your mother, sister and betrothed misses you so much" Leon sat next to me on the couch.

"So?" I raised my eyebrows

"What do you mean so?" Leon asked confusedly, he raised his eyebrows too.

"I mean what's yours exactly?" I said to him

"My point is for the past few years you haven't been home, you haven't even met your betrothed and your mother and sister misses you, your father wishes to see you as his son" Leon raised his voice.

"Wow, calm down, I am surprised by your outburst but okay have gotten your point and I shall see to it." I assured him.

"Why don't you ever talk about your mom?" Leon asked curiously.

"What's there to talk about, I don't even know her, I never met her, the only woman whom I had known to be my mother my whole life is queen Elisabela and father never said anything about Lady Ambrosia to me." I replied like the unbothered person I am.

"Legend has it that she was human." Leon is rather serious. I was surprisingly shocked.

"What are you, dull or what?" I threw a pillow to him, I was really surprised at his stupid question.

"Leon, you must be joking right? To ask that, why do you think I am a half blooded vampire?" I questioned him hoping to find out he was joking or something.

"Ohhhhhhhh, that's why, now it all makes sense." Realization dawned on him but I was still shocked rather confused at how dumb my bestie was.

"Leon, didn't you know all these before?" I asked out of curiosity.

"I know, I was just pulling your legs but I did so much research on the late lady Ambrosia." Leon said excitedly.

"What about?" I asked uninterested.

"You seem less interested in what am about to say" Leon said

"Of course I am not less interested in what you have to say so what is it about?" I said to Leon trying not to kill his spirit.

"Your mom was the first ever human to enter the vampire realm and survived,she was even lucky and got Married to your father surpassing his first wife Queen Elisabela.

History had it that everyone was shocked that your father was able to mate a human and birth a child called Dhampir and you my friend are the first human or Dhampir to rule the vampire realm." Leon said

"I know, that's why father sent me to train like my life depends on it, so I can be strong enough to rule the realm and also learn to control myself in front of these humans, especially my Grandparents." I said to Leon.

"Was that why you were betrothed to someone, A vampire precisely?" He asked.

"Yes, that was why I was betrothed to a full blooded vampire. So her powers and the little I have can bring a full blooded heir to light." I told Him

"Zella could have ruled, but why did they choose you?" Leon asked.

"Leon, you are full of questions. I do not know all these." I said to him

"Okay, anyway Grandma and Grandpa will be home, get ready we still have to attend the anniversary. Oh I pray to be able to control myself today" Leon said, he left the sitting room to get ready in his room.

After being isolated for years, My late mom's parents took me in to raise me, since I was their Grandchild and they needed their grandchild but what they didn't know was that their daughter had mated with a vampire. My Grandparents didn't know I was half vampire matter of fact, they didn't believe such a thing existed.

Today is my mom's death anniversary,it will be celebrated on both sides and of course I am only attending one, that is the one my Grandparents are hosting .

Leon is my best friend and brother from one of dad's mistresses, Leon is a full blooded vampire. He was sent by dad to keep an eye on me but of course he is my junior brother so he has to be on my side.

Today I have to wear a black suit. I only wear a black suit once in a year and that's on Mom's death anniversary. I heard a knock on my room door.

"Come in," I said. Grandma walked inside my room.

"Aethelfrith, you look handsome child" Grandma smiled warmly at me.

"Thanks Granny,I got it from you." I smiled warmly at her back.

"How I wish your mom was alive to see the fine young man you have grown into, l bet she would have been very proud." Grandma said with tears filling her eyes.

I would have controlled her mind into thinking something else but I love so much I don't want to mess with her.

"She would" I smiled, I wiped the tears off Grandma's eyes.

"Okay, I will see you at the hall. Don't be late okay" Grandma left the room.

"She would," Leon said with a cringing voice from the door.

"Ewww, I sounded nothing like that and how long have you been there?" I questioned him.

"Not too long, you ready?" Leon said, looking at himself in the mirror .

"Yep I am." I replied.

"This is the first time in a long time I am going to stand with so many humans. How can I stop myself from having their blood?" Leon asked, seemingly very concerned.

"Just do what you want but remember don't kill anyone" I warned leon.

"Sure, have heard daddy." Leon replied playfully.

"I have a feeling that I will find my mate at this event" Leon said randomly.

"A human mate?" I question

"Well, you can never tell," Leon smilled into space.
