Chapter 17: Meetup
Why did Caley want to see us? It seemed abrupt and quite spontaneous how he suddenly thought of us. After Kourtney had a phone call with him, all she said was we should come with her. She even included Hansel who had nothing to do with Caley. All that was in my head right now was, since when did Caley and Kourtney get close? As far as I knew, they didn’t hang out often unlike Amanda and Emma. But I guess things just drastically changed when they graduated and I was being left behind.

Chapter 18: Nightmare
Hansel was caught off guard and he wasn’t expecting Kourtney to bring him up in this conversation. He only came here for coffee, nothing else and for him to be the center of attention aside from Kourtney was so uncalled for. It made him uncomfortable, but his cheeks were slowly turning red in embarrassment. As if to make him even more unsettled, Kourtney leaned her head on Hansel’s arm that made me furrow my brows. What was she doing?   “How long h

Chapter 19: Shaken By Occurrence
My mouth gaped when I saw his blood-drenched hands that were grasping the wound on his abdomen. His chest rose and fell and he was panting uncontrollably from the pain. I froze to where I was standing in utter shock, as I studied the scene in front of me. There was a knife placed beside him, some scattered utensils on the ground and the countertop, and an opened microwave with a bowl of pasta inside. There was a trail of blood across the island counter, and there was a track of dirt along with it.

Chapter 20: Negotiation
After the life-threatening occurrence last night, I stayed in the hospital and William brought me some clothes when he saw how drenched I was with Hansel’s blood. We stayed over in the hospital until the dawn came, and William had ordered some of his men to guard Hansel because we wouldn’t be around to keep an eye on him. We’d come up with an idea to visit the jail to talk things out with Dmitri because he was the only person we knew that could give us information about what happened last night. Knowing he was the only closest person to the Houstons, he probably knows why they wanted to take Mom or why they wanted us to be killed.

Chapter 21: Woken Up
We went back to the hospital after William’s man had called him. Relief washed over me as soon as I knew that he was fine and he had woken up. I was worried about him that I had a hard time going through the day without constantly thinking about if he would ever wake up. Maybe I was exaggerating because survival was rare, and being alive was a miracle. Hansel being alive was enough to assure me that everything would be okay and he got through it. The guard opened the door f

Chapter 22: Spanish
Right after William announced that we were going to stay in his house until the day we got to leave for Mexico, I went back to our house to grab our stuff. Daniel went along with me, saying that he’d come with me so I had a company which I didn’t mind. So we both left the vicinity as Kourtney chose to stay with Hansel.  When I unlocked the house, I stepped inside as Daniel trailed behind me. The house didn’t look different as we’d left it: there were

Chapter 23: We Meet Again
I stopped dead on my track as I gulped at the sight of him. I couldn’t believe my eyes right now and there was a sudden tightness in my chest. I sucked in a breath, not wanting to look away, and waited for him to turn his back around to face me. My hands were sweating like hell, as the heat started to surge in. If I was dreaming, then I didn’t want to wake up.  When he turned around, his gaze immediately landed on me. His stare was mesmerizing, and the way his ey

Chapter 24: Reconciliation
He looked uncomfortable as he stared at me. I bit my bottom lip in embarrassment, not knowing what I should say next. It seemed as if he didn’t hear what I just said because he didn’t respond. I bet he wasn’t sure how he would forgive me or how he would confront me of how horrible I was to him. I could feel his coldness, without that longing and constant need for affection. I couldn’t believe that he was unlike this before. He was so different. “I&rs

Chapter 25: Realization
The conversation I had with Miguel was nerve-racking. It didn’t leave my head the moment we stopped our conversation. It repeated like a broken record, continuously replaying in my head enough to not let me sleep. When he showed no feeling towards me, it was the moment I knew I messed everything up. I should’ve known better, not to hurt him with the anxiety I fed to myself. I should’ve been brave enough to stand up for our relationship but I became a coward. He wouldn’t have turned his back on me. He wouldn’t have been disappointed by my lack of honesty. And I couldn’t help but loathe myself, knowing that we wouldn’t have ended here if I didn’t become so fragile.

Chapter 26: Eavesdrop
After I had a conversation with Kourtney, I felt quite relieved. I hadn’t bailed all my emotions out because I just thought that it was unnecessary. But at least I had a chance to talk to someone about Miguel. When she said that I should be more open to people, that’s when our conversation ended. She headed upstairs and I was left in the kitchen wondering about what she meant by that. I was never the type of person who would easily open up to people even to my closest
